Marsa Malaz Kempinski — Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Why book? Looking for exclusivity? This is it. Marsa Malaz Kempinski is set on its own artificial island, The Pearl, overlooking the Arabian Gulf. With a blend of Arabic traditions and European flair, the huge palatial hotel has a regal atmosphere, without being overly pretentious. The rooms, dining experiences and amenities all make it difficult to ever leave. Set the scene The Marsa Malaz Kempinski hotel can’t be missed, both literally and figuratively. The grand complex takes up most of the artificial island in Doha, with a private beach and marina, manicured gardens and multiple pools interspersed with deck chairs and umbrellas. Once inside, the interior leans heavily on its Arabian influence, with traditional wooden details, gold-effect furnishings, and warm lighting choices. The backstory It’s part of the Kempinski Hotels company, who have been opening accommodation around the world since 1897. Steeped in European heritage, the brand established the Doha outpost, Marsa Malaz Kempinski, nearly a decade ago. Situated on its own secluded island, which was artificially made from 26 million tons of limestone and surrounded by a calm lagoon for complete seclusion amidst the bustling city. The rooms There are over 300 rooms and suites, all with plenty of space for relaxing and gazing out the large floor to ceiling windows. From pool view to sea view, the private balconies are bound to be the spot for a morning coffee. The Arabian-style decor includes old world oil paintings, a wooden storage ottoman and patterned textiles thrown across the large crisp beds. Food and drink The hotel’s restaurants take advantage of the seafront location, offering fresh seafood and international flavors on sunny outdoor terraces and lounges. From contemporary Japanese to traditional Middle Eastern dishes, it’s a culinary journey around the world. For a beachside drink, there’s the casual sports bar for the afternoon or refreshing cocktails of an evening at the Latin-style bar. The spa With its grandiose marble lobby, ornate chandeliers and treatment rooms, the spa offers a memorable experience. The extensive treatment menu includes dozens of indulgent options, from facials and massages to full-body exfoliation and body wraps for anything from an hour to a full day of pampering. The neighborhood/area The exclusive enclave provides a more secluded feel than other parts of Doha. This neighborhood is home to some of the most luxurious residences and villas in the country, as well as Qatar’s only private marina. It’s also within walking distance of many shopping, dining and entertainment options around the island and West Bay area. The service Adding to the regal appearance of the hotel, the service is all class. The professional staff are attentive everywhere you go, from the poolside lounge to the sports bar and housekeeping service. They never seem to miss a beat. For families While not necessarily appearing like a kid-friendly hotel at first, it’s quite a surprise to learn about the amount of family services they offer. There’s plenty of entertainment for all ages, including tennis courts, adrenaline fuelled watersports, multiple pools and the Titan Tikes Kids' Playroom for the little ones. Eco effort The hotel has a number of green initiatives in place to ensure a high standard of sustainability. They installed a recycled water system and a solar power plant as part of the building’s design, so you can be assured that they’re doing their bit. Accessibility Connected to the mainland by a bridge, the hotel is easily accessible from the West bay area of Doha. Many parts of the hotel have been made accessible to all, including the outdoor pool areas, lobby and most of the rooms. Open request, rooms are easily adapted to suit any special needs." - Jenna Scatena

12 Best Hotels in Doha, From Wellness Resorts to Historic Guesthouses

"Qatar’s game-changing, artificial Pearl Island complex welcomed its first hotel in 2014, and it’s a palatial pink pile that towers over the bay from its own islet. With its domes, columns, and archways, the building calls to mind a Venetian palazzo, and that’s very much by design; in fact, you’ll even find paintings of Italy’s Floating City in some guest rooms, alongside romantic detailing like steamer trunks and crystal chandeliers. At the Spa by Clarins, there’s a hammam for utter relaxation, and the wide array of restaurants here includes standouts like Al Sufra, which draws on the flavors of Lebanon, Cyprus, Syria, Jordan, and Palestine. On the other end of the spectrum: a family-friendly retro American diner, complete with leather booths and a digital jukebox." - Jenna Scatena

"Located on its own island at The Pearl, Marsa Malaz Kempinski brings grand, palatial scale to one of Doha’s most sought-after addresses. Ornate domes, towering arches, and a bronze horse statue greet you on arrival, while interiors channel opulence without feeling overdone. Rooms are oversized and serene, each with a balcony or terrace ideal for slow mornings or sunset views. The private beach is a rare luxury in Doha, and the restaurants, with cuisines from Spain to South America, make it just as much a destination for locals as it is for travelers." - Tablet Hotels

Our stay at Kempinski Marsa Malaz was absolutely spectacular. From the moment we arrived, we could feel the high standards of the hotel. The staff is exceptional—always friendly, attentive, and genuinely willing to help, making us feel truly welcome. The hotel is stunning, luxurious, and meticulously detailed throughout. The rooms are spacious, beautifully designed, and the beds are extremely comfortable, ensuring a perfect night’s sleep. The breakfast is outstanding, offering an impressive variety of high-quality options. We also had the chance to dine at the Public House Restaurant, and it was absolutely delicious—one of the highlights of our stay. It’s a real shame that our visit was so short, as this hotel truly deserves to be fully enjoyed for a longer period of time. A flawless 10/10 experience.

Great if not for the terrible service! In terms of utilities, this is one of the best hotels I ever visited. They have nice lrivate beach, fantastic swimming pools, gyms and restaurants. If you like all a nice vacation resort hotel, this one has it all But.... Service and comfort was a real challenge Staff promise and talk nicely (atleast most of them) but delivery of the service is nkt there. I kept hearing DRILLING noise in my room asked over 5 times to solve my problem but nothing happened. When I ask for a pillow or ice, it takes long before I get it in my room. My shower sink was blocked, bed is too small , some charging sockets are not working. During breakfast , we requested eggs from restaurant, it took over 30min and when i asked why, some restaurant manager lady said its normal because they are busy! I am leaving an honest review and its up to you to decide whether it's worth staying here after weighing pros and cons

We had an absolutely wonderful stay over the Christmas period and I couldn’t recommend it more for families. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcomed and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort.||The rooms were spacious, beautifully designed, and impeccably clean, offering more than enough space for our family to relax. The attention to detail throughout the hotel truly reflects Kempinski’s high standards.||Our children especially loved the family-friendly facilities, including the kids club, pool and beach area, which were perfectly maintained and felt very safe. The kids’ amenities and thoughtful touches made traveling with family stress-free and enjoyable.||Breakfast was outstanding, with a wide variety of fresh, high-quality options catering to both adults and children. The dining staff were attentive and always happy to accommodate special requests for my daughter’s dairy allergy.||What truly stood out was the exceptional service, warm, professional, and consistently attentive. Every team member we encountered was kind, helpful, and eager to make our stay memorable.||This hotel is a perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and family-friendly hospitality. We will leave with beautiful memories and will definitely return on our next trip to Doha. Highly recommended for families looking for an unforgettable stay.

An outstanding and truly premium hotel experience in Qatar. The hotel is exceptional in every sense and stands among the most important hotels in terms of service quality and overall atmosphere. A special mention goes to room service — Sajjad was extremely professional, attentive, and genuinely dedicated to his work, which made the stay even more comfortable and personalized. The hotel itself is magnificent: from the elegant entrance to the beautiful evening ambiance enhanced by live piano music, and the warm, welcoming reception. After this experience, I honestly can’t imagine staying at any other hotel in Qatar. Highly recommended.

The customer service at this hotel was absolutely amazing. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed so warmly, and Mike kindly offered us an upgrade to a suite, which was incredible. When we walked into the suite, our happiness instantly doubled. Everything was beautiful and modern, and my family and I truly loved our stay. We enjoyed the hotel so much that we wanted to cancel our other booking and extend our stay for another five nights, but unfortunately, that wasn’t possible. Every time we needed assistance, the staff were welcoming, friendly, and extremely helpful. The pool staff were also fantastic and made our experience even more enjoyable. The only small area for improvement would be the baby high chairs in the breakfast restaurant. Either a chair wasn’t available, or if one was, the belt was missing or broken. It would be great if the hotel could invest in new, clean, sturdy baby high chairs with proper safety belts. Overall, this was a wonderful stay, and we would happily return and recommend this hotel to others.

We have just spent 8 nights at the Kempinski Marsa Malaz and can say without reservation that it is the best customer service I have ever experienced in a hotel. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff in all areas of the hotel were exceptional. We ate at four of the restaurants and the food was exceptional in all restaurants. Three of the staff who we dealt with on a daily basis are an absolute credit to the hotel. Chef Talal who ran the breakfast restaurant was an absolute gem of a man and introduced us to different breakfast cuisine every day that was delicious and nothing was too much trouble. Our housekeeping team of Mohammed and Amit cleaned our room every day leaving it spotless and turned down the room every evening. Finally Dominic the lifeguard looked after us every morning at the beach and again nothing was ever too much trouble. Wonderful hotel, wonderful location but what makes this hotel exceptional is the staff. Highly recommended.

Stayed for 9 nights full board with a group of 7 including 3 Children under 6. |Hotel looks grand and 5* but the service especially at some of the restaurants notably public house and Harry’s Italian does need major improvement. Hotel trying to be kid friendly but not really with still a smokers lounge in the lobby lol. Due to the limited restaurants avialable few closed for refurbishment and limited kids menu. We ate out for lunch and dinner on the last 3 nights due to limited options and service and enjoyed these days the best. Missing drinks, missing dishes, waiting for dessert or the bill things take too long even when asked a number of time if there is an issue. The hotel wasn’t even busy when this happened so I am still bemused with the reason. Concerns raised with reception and duty manager of hotel, they wasn’t entertained, so probably use to the same feedback. Best offered was in room dining for one night but cannot eat in the room with kids too much mess. Took 2 days to sort out a bed for my daughter who was on the reservation, the room was set up for two people. Always two towels have to call guest services daily for towels and loo rolls only after day 5 things slightly improved. First time leaving a holiday we were excited to finally go! |This review is not for compensation but a heads up to families planning trips here with full board! We still made good memories, pool staff, security and lifeguards friendly and gym and spa was a big plus for this hotel.
