The Sam Houston Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton

One of the best hospitalities I have experienced at hotels in the western side of the world. From all the people on different shifts at check in, the restaurant, the valet, to the over the phone communication. The interiors of the hotel are also one of the unique ones. The building gives rustic charms but their is chic in the decor items to amenities. It was super kind to provide an extra pack of goodies for Silver guests. Makes you feel valued as a customer. The only downside is that the television didn't work in my room. Which was a slight bummer, though it isn't a must have for me. It's a super peaceful spot, great bedding, ample lighting, and really an over all you'll-find-everything-you-need situation! ♡ Still staying at the hotel so will report back with an update and maybe a photo when I haven't upheaveled the sheets/place!

What a cute hotel! The rooms were well appointed and the bed comfy. The shower was great pressure and hot as heck! I checked in late and smoothly, was offered extra waters, and a noon checkout. Service perfect too. No complaints! Plus it was a 5 min walk to the courthouse and easy for rideshare.

Before I even checked in Andrew was a great help to me. He answered all my questions and was very helpful! All the staff, AM, PM and overnight front desk staff were a delight. I hope they get their kudos from this. Location was 10/10 for me. I read some reviews discussing the unhoused in the area- I had no issues. It’s a city. Be aware and you’re good. I did valet my car and had no issues with that either. My room was wonderful, clean and comfortable. I love this property and only stay here while in Houston.

The decor is lovely but once you start looking closely, it’s a bit…worn. Loose fixtures galore (wall sconces, bathroom faucets, etc). Paint slapped on things to make them seem newer. They were obviously renovating while we were there so maybe just an unfortunate in-between time to catch them. Room was tidy but not clean - hair in far corner of shower, blood(?) stain on duvet. Rippling carpet difficult to wheel luggage over. All switches felt very dirty. Okay location. A lot to do in walking distance but traffic and parking will be an obstacle. We used the valet service. It was decent. They did accommodate an early check-in, which was nice, but why have a room ready that isn’t at its cleanest? Not the worst, not the best.

Stayed here in September 2025 - This is a hotel property which bring a big of a charm which is not always found in the regular hotel brands. This is located in downtown Houston within reach of some government offices and courts. The property itself is small comparatively but is is well managed and maintained. I was very please with the service and the staff. The entrance is welcoming and the lobby area setup appropriately for the size. The room I had was perfect size. The bathroom and amenities all proper to style and the brand. The styling was proper for the brand and design intent. Very cozy and felt luxurious. There is valet parking available. Parking also across the building or the lot next to it, but they are not a part of the property. You have to pay using an app or at a console and pay what is posted per day and duration. The parking fees fluctuate based on events or weekday. I was familiar with the area so opted to park myself using the ParkWiz app. All in all a great property and will likely stay again in the future.

An excellent Hilton that provides a unique experience. The rooms are really well designed and comfortable and spacious. The gym is small but given this is an old building that is to be expected; it still has everything you'd need for a workout including free weights and a Pelaton.

I booked the Sam Houston for a quick weekend trip to an Astros game. I'm not entirely sure I'd stay here again, but if I did, it would be after they're done with renovations. Valet (there is no self park option) is around the corner from the entrance to the lobby. It's not a far walk, but at night it's a little sketchy and not well lit. Valet is also through a 3rd party service, and while the first night and following day we had no issues, the morning of our checkout was a mess and we ended up going to get our own vehicle. Front desk did credit our valet charge for the 2nd night, so a solid effort was made to make that issue right. ||Our room (king deluxe, 9th floor) was nice. A little small, but decent sized bathroom and quality linens and amenities. We requested extra towels multiple times, but never got them. I get it, it's towels and not the end of the world, but having (1) extra bath towel would have been nice while the other 2 hung to dry. ||No where on the website for the Sam Houston does it say they're performing reservations. While we didn't hear anything in our room (again, 9th floor) it's possible this impacted those staying on lower floors. It also changes valet and check in locations, and appears to have affected the lobby layout and potentially the restaurant. Menu didn't really speak to us (especially breakfast - 98% of the items are eggs) so we did not have the opportunity to really try it out.

The Sam Houston Hotel was an easy place to stay. And what I mean by that is that the check in process was easy. Navigating to the room was easy. Getting beverages was easy. The room itself is quite modern but also pretty small for what you pay. It’s an older building that’s remodeled and so if you are okay with that vibe this would be a good fit for you. If you’re looking for a place that is a modern building built recently this wouldn’t be what you’re looking for.

We really enjoyed our stay in this Curio Collection hotel from Hilton. We try to always stay at the Curios if we have a choice, because they are unique and special properties. The same Houston was no exception. The staff here was very kind and professional. The room was lovely and very clean. The shower was AMAZING! We loved the lobby bar and restaurant although we didn't try the food. The drinks were delicious. Diamond the bartender was fantastic! We found the hotel to be in a great location with many things walkable and if we return to Houston, we will most certainly stay here again.

I stayed overnight for an Astros game a couple weeks ago. Although the hotel staff was friendly and provided good service, the hotel itself does not live up to the Curio Collection standards. The hotel is extremely dated and the rooms are very dark and dusty. I've stayed at many Curio Collection hotels across the country and also the C Baldwin a couple blocks away. If I'd known this hotel was so dated, I would've booked the C Baldwin as the prices were identical for the night. The location was great and in walking distance to the ballpark.

Some friends and I stopped by last night, we were going to get a room but they were booked. So we just sat at the bar for dinner and drinks. Our bartender Honie (sorry if misspelled) was wonderful. The food was fantastic as well. Highly recommend stopping by the Pearl Bar if you're ever in the area.

Very nice hotel. Main issue is just no attached parking so we paid $30 to park in the lot behind the building.

This was actually one of my favorite places to go to but as of recently I came with my wife and we went to eat at the Pearl (which is the restaurant/bar part of the hotel) and I was served by a lady named Annie (sorry if I mispelled) and she is by far the worst person I've seen behind the bar , I complained to the manager and she still was messing up my orders...hopefully they get the staff that used to be there back or someone who knows what they are doing ,I would hate to part ways with the only place I stay when I come into town I would give zero stars to the service this employee gave me ‼‼ actually this lady acted like she was on sone type of drugs or something

Loved the taste of history staying here. It's an old hotel so there are some parts that are a little run down but not dated, just aged. Location is good for walk to Minute Maid Park, about 15 minute walk door to door. Staff was amazing! From the valet to the desk clerk, everyone was kind, helpful, and spreading joy to everyone.

Looks like it's the Sam Old Sam Old. Was here a long time ago and then here again recently after it added the "Curio Collection" moniker, and I'm "Curio" as to what that actually means. It's a good hotel for sure with nice service for sure - which is where it gets three stars - but it could easily end up being a 1-star if I had paid full price, because a lot of the rooms still smell and some of the hallways smell, and it doesn't seem like an expensive hotel at all, but more like an old Motel type of place with a fancy facade in downtown, relying on history and location over quality and cleanliness. And they are masses of homeless people outside, and at this point, with the rooms being such low quality, I start wondering why they don't just give the homeless people access to the rooms, because it kind of smells and sometimes even feels like it already had a lot of homeless people living in here.

Lipstick on a pig. It's an historic hotel. It's not restored it's shellacked and calked to oblivion in a very poor effort to cheaply create an "historic hotel" pay for the historic restoration and charge a little more. It's worth it. The staff is overworked and subsequently the service and response times are lacking

We did a little overnight here over the summer to give us something different to do then go to Galveston. I reserved the 2 bathroom suite (which was a nice large suite). I'm a Hilton Gold member so I got a cute welcome gift when I entered the room. I used the valet service as I didn't want to deal with trying to park anywhere downtown plus what we planned to do that night was just a short walk from the hotel. The hotel itself is a bit old. Our room didn't have the best view (our view looked at the empty destroyed hotel next door) but the comfortable bed and beautiful bathrooms made up for everything. We didn't utilize the gym but we did eat at the restaurant for breakfast and dinner which will be in a seperate review. It's a bit pricey but we felt like it was well worth it.

Please do not allow these pictures to receive you as they did me. I would not stay at this place and wouldn't ever recommend it to anyone. The customer service was great which is why they got 2 stars instead of one but the overall condition, smell, room interior feeling of this place is very uncomfortable and feels like weird/bad energy overall. The rooms smell like they have been flooded and the towels were hard with holes. Parking is not free of course. They have metered street, valet, or self parking garages. The tv wasn't working properly and it flickered by itself all night as if a ghost were in the room. I had to turn it off but I didn't get any quality sleep as it was very uncomfortable here. Depending on your room location, residential area across the street can look directly in your room and gives you nor such a good feeling even about allowing natural light in. I cut my 5 day booking to less that 10 hours Bc I couldn't take another hour. The toilet ran all night as well and they did switch my room in the middle of the night but the other room was no different.

One of my worst hotel experiences ever. Our need for a room was to have a place to sleep and shower in the morning. We got back from our venue around 10:30 and fell into the bed. outside street noise went on for a couple of hours. In the middle of the night, there was some weird electronic clicking sound that seemed to be coming from the ceiling. finally, after a not-so-good night's sleep, we both needed to get a shower to prepare for our three-hour trip back to corpus christi. The water trickled out. the water in the sink faucet was stronger. the temperature kept on changing, so we could not even shower in the trickle. in addition, the toilet was not cleaned even to normal home standards (hair, dirt and urine around one of the seat hinges, crud on the shower tile edge next to the glass door, etc. Our 300 dollar room was very small, but attractive. they clearly were using the small space to it's best advantage, with a built-in desk and a tiny couch that still gave us room to move about. when i approached the manager about our situation, he appologized, explaining that only one other person had made the same complaint about the water. turns out it was a bad pump. I insisted that this was a serious inconvenience, and he responded that i had full use of the room up to the morning, so only a small percentage of my stay was impeded. WHAT? a good shower was 1/2 of what i booked a room for. 1/2 to sleep. 1/2 to have access to a bathroom (i will admit that my wife and i both peed twice and the toilet worked each time). I think a decent shower is expected. in the end, they offered to cut my bar bill in 1/2 (about 38 dollars off a 400 dollar bill). It was insulting and unempathetic. if this had really only happened to myself and 1 other guest, i would think 1/2 off the bill would have been a reasonable compensation. finally, when the valet brought out car to the front, he scraped the front right bumper against the curb. i went back into the manager and complained, and his response was the valet service was a contractor, and to take it up with them. looking at my bill, the 42 dollar charge for valet service said nothing about a separate contractor (it really is, but in reality, it should have been a separate bill if hilton does not want to take any responsibility for the damage). I do not blame the valet for his mistake with my car - it was unintentional. I do, however, blame the manager, who's job is to manage his employees and be the final representative of the organization to the customers, his clients. He failed miserably at understanding and emphasizing wtih me on my issue, dimishing it to a percentage rather than an overall experience. I do not recommend this hotel, not because of the unusual issues that i encountered, but because of the poor customer relations in dealing with these issues.

It was a comfortable stay, I'm leaving an honest post about my experience. I was here for 5 days and it really bothers me that simple fix's aren't made. The raggedy towels and paying a premium is off putting and feels thoughtless and lazy. A tv swap might be more of an issue but it's an obvious lazy, low-budget, neglectful poor management decision. I had my room tidied twice during my stay and they didn't replenish my coffee pods.

The trend of the Curio brand keeps dropping! This is another slightly updated Hilton carrying the Curio brand that missed the mark. Upon pull-up, small entry, no bell service, front desk short line but crammed area, decoré STOP!, antic elevator look, but the room ... look at the pictures and decide yourself

Downtown hotels are always among the most expensive as you are paying for location. That money though should come with some basic expectations. I had high hopes for this property and I was massively disappointed. First, the valet who spoke no English was unable to understand my request and parked my car with my luggage still in it. Second, the room was super small and smelled of urine. The bed had the previous occupants makeup on it still and there was no refrigerator in the room. When I requested one it took 30min to bring me an appliance that looked like it had been through WW3. I left the property 30min after arriving and booked elsewhere in the city.

When on a business trip, there's usually a mental equation that goes through my head. The first (and most important) factor is staying compliant with the Company Travel Policy. That includes using the approved travel agency and picking from the list of "approved" Hotels, which varies from year to year. Other factors include location, cost, and picking up frequent traveler points. I consider the later small compensation of the hardships of being on the road, and away from home and family. The Sam Houston (aka The Sam) is a Hilton Curio Hotel, which I think I've stayed before when it was the Alden. I ended up here based on the above factors, plus Valentine's Day and a home Rockets game tightened up availability. I also had the travel agency cut a more favorable Company rate, even though many of the other Downtown Hilton Hotels had fallen off the approved list. I really enjoyed my stay here. My 10th floor room was well appointed and with a nice downtown view. The bed was comfortable, the WiFi was strong, the exercise room worked for me, the trendy Lobby was cool, and the free Diamond Level breakfast (and service) was excellent. My only regret was not hanging out in the bar when I returned from my evenings out. But I had already had enough to drink. The location of this Hotel is perhaps on the edge, when you consider the number of bail bonds places on adjacent blocks and some of the local residents who had nowhere else to go. However, the Hubcap Grill next door did hold considerable promise, in a Jane and Michael Stern sort-of-way. Next time, I hope.

Sometimes there's one person on staff who just ruins the entire experience of staying at a hotel, unfortunately that is the case with the Sam Houston Curio. Until that problem is fixed, this place is a no-fly zone. Avoid at all costs.

Clean room, very quiet despite some city noise which is to be expected in downtown Houston. Service was not good. Came back early the first night I have a drink in the hotel bar only to find out they closed early. Next day, had to track someone down to ask if we could eat breakfast there. Found someone who sat us and took our order. Later saw him find someone else and relayed our order to that person. That person went to the bar, then came through the restaurant to relay our order to a woman in the back. Despite the wait, the food was good. We had utilized parking out front, only to receive a parking ticket. The valet guy was quick to tell us we should just use the valet service. So, that night we thought we'd do just that. Came to the hotel after a day of adventures, pulled up and the valet desk was in attended. Waited...turned the vehicle off, waited some more, still nobody. Finally gave up and found nearby parking at a parking garage two blocks from the hotel for a fraction of the hotel's cost. This night we called the hotel ahead to be sure the bar was open. Stopped in for a drink, snack, and to catch some of the game. Ordered the TX nachos which were advertised to include, cheese, pico, beans, and guac. Declined a protein since the nachos were to include beans. Nachos arrived without beans. Guy next to us returned his entire meal. Unfortunate way to end our trip. Wouldn't return or recommend. Unfortunate because the room was nice and affordable.

Cool little place with some good food and drinks. Spacious area that is on the corner of Prairie

Was in Houston for a wedding this weekend, and as I always say, when in Texas, eat some BBQ!!! So I drove a few loops around my hotel to see what was around and saw this place next to the stadium. My first thought was "touristy" and probably should steer clear. Boy would that turn it to be wrong. First off, downtown Houston is not the destination n Texas that people flock to like Disneyland. Second, "touristy" does not close at 7:00pm. Now, I have been around smoked BBQ (real BBQ) for several decades and have eaten more then I should have. Ribs, brisket, turkey, sausage-you name it-I'll eat it smoked. This place is the real deal! Elvis and Pricilla, the names of the smokers do a fantastic job of pumping out more then 26,000 lbs of brisket a season (baseball)! That is amazing to me. My smoker barely fit 60 lbs. My family and I ended up treating the wedding party to lunch on the Sunday after as a farewell luncheon. We ordered a bunch of sides and everyone got their favorite meats. All were fantastic and will be truly missed back home in CA. Do not miss the Apple Cobbler or the Banana Pudding either. Both are must-haves.

Seemed like a hip place when I booked on our Hilton honors app. The bath towels were shredded which was surprising for a Hilton property. No frig to keep our water cold and no ice on our floor. We were willing to overlook that....But biggest complaint...bed bugs. Room 618. They went to town on my legs. Covered in bites that are in rows. Really gross. I called the manager when we got home and he was apologetic and went over the protocol of what we should do with our luggage and the contents so that we don't infect our entire house. Basically leaving our suitcases and clothing in the garage for a week taking all the contents and putting them in the hottest setting in the dryer, and vacuuming our suitcase twice and throwing away the vacuum bag. Not too sure how to put our dry clean only clothes in the dryer on high and not ruin them?? He wanted to give us some type of refund, but I refused and just told him to have the room treated so it didn't happen to anyone else. What a hassle. Calamine lotion on the bites and will just move on. Won't be staying there again unfortunately. I wouldn't be able to sleep if we did -afraid that bugs would crawl on me again.

Here are some tips, and then I'll get to the review. 1.don't ever book this hotel. 2. If you have a car don't bring it, there is no free parking and the hotel has a scam going to charge insane amounts to valet your car. 3. As of writing this review the restaurant in the hotel and the bar are closed. This hotel it's extremely over priced for its location yes it's near downtown but it is in a run down part of it. There were crowds of homeless drug addicts outside. And they had police officers stationed outside when I got there because the crime is so bad in this area. I felt very uncomfortable leaving my car in this area. The rooms are nicely furnished but small and there is really no view from the windows.

Probably a 3 star joint, but the staff bumps it up a star. From the Valet dudes, Front Desk guy (I think?), and the great Bartenders, the staff at The Sam Houston is second to none. It's an older boutique hotel, so yes, elevators, and the rooms are on the smaller side. The twin beds might sleep 2 midgets comfortably. Might. Bathroom was clean, and they have coffee pods in the room. No pool, but there is a workout facility. The location is on the edge of sketchiness, as there's a lot of homeless, and panhandlers in the area. (Seems to be a byproduct of cities with Democrat Mayors, these days). Free Escalade shuttle. The older man driving the courtesy Escalade, was the coolest, and most professional cat in the hotel. Friendly driver, and he was always on time. Great bonus to this gem of a property. Bet on a return visit, next time I'm at an Astros game.

Nice hotel with very nice rooms in downtown. Unfortunately, this part of downtown had homeless all around hotel. But the real problem was with Gregory, one of their supervisors, I guess. Called to confirm my charged company rate and he was defensive immediately. Very rude and tried to talk over me continuously, even when I told him I wasn't going to accept his behavior. He said I was lucky they hadn't charged me $50 more since I stayed for only one night instead of the requested 2 nights. My staff and I had informed the lady at check-in we would only be staying 1 night. No mention of an up-charge, but still, guy was an ass from the get-go. He ended up hanging up on me instead of calming down and listening. Definitely not customer friendly or considerate. Emily who took the call originally was very pleasant. I'll have to talk to my management about finding another place to stay in Houston due to this guy.

The hotel was nice. You have to pay 35 to park. The front desk personal were helpful. The Pearl restaurant was so-so. I liked the bathroom, cable was decent with good channels. Bed was a little firm. It's an older building that has been renovated. Be careful of the shower it gets hotter for a second then goes back to the setting.

TOP NOTCH ***** I considered having my wedding reception at I have to say that the customer service I received from the first point of contact to the last had been impeccable. I set an appointment with Michelle but I missed it and decided to swing by unannounced. Carly was there and was above and beyond accommodating. I decided to return later than evening to get an idea of the venue at night and stop in to have dinner at The Pearl, their restaurant. Carly wasn't there but informed the manager of the restaurant that we were coming, and she went so above and beyond with customer service that I'm sitting her typing this review. You guys are an amazing team. I have not yet decided on my venue but this is one of my favourites based on service and quality of food ay The Pearl. I will be leaving them a review next.

The wife and I came to hotel after our first hotel had an electrical fire. It was in the middle of our vacation as were awoken at 8am by the fire alarm going off and the smell of burning plastic. It was after that we decided it was time to leave and searched for a hotel, it was then we called the Sam Houston. The receptionist was extremely nice and accommodating, she was able to get us a room within minutes, with an upgrade! and even provided us with a refrigerator for our food. I was blown away by the service and the hotel was even better. First of all it smelt amazing when you walked in and the lobby looked great. They provided us complimentary breakfast while our room was prepared. The room we received was a 1 bedroom 2 bath suite, I did not know these existed. It was excellent corner room with great views and 2 excellent bathrooms. I used the hotel gym which was great, exactly what I needed. We loved our stay at the Sam and will be back when we are in town.

Boutique hotel in downtown Houston. Close to bars on Main Street and Travis Street. Close to Minute Maid Park. They offer a free shuttle service, in a luxury SUV, to downtown areas. Obviously you should tip the driver. My room was a spacious enough. King bed, very comfy. Air conditioning worked fine. The water pressure in the shower was awesome. Free Wifi worked well. Ice Machines on 4th and 8th floors. The fitness center is tiny. Two treadmills and one quasi elliptical machine. A bench with some dumbbell weights. Business center is one computer with a printer by the main desk. Free coffee, fruit and newspapers in the morning by the front desk. One house keeping faux pas while we were there. We left in the morning to go to the Houston Museum Of Fine Arts. Got back a little after 1:00pm and wanted to take a nap. Housekeeping had not hit the room yet. Called the front desk, and told them we would leave for awhile once housekeeping got here. Housekeeping knocked on our door a few minutes later and we left to grab a drink at a bar near Market Square. Got back after 2:00pm and housekeeping had still not cleaned the room. WTF? Went down to the front desk and explained the situation. They got on it, and even gave us two complimentary drinks and a complimentary appetizer at the hotel bar. Nice.

Says a 4 star hotel, but I wouldn't rate it as such. The rooms are small, it is a boutique hotel but the room was tiny. They have no amenities besides a exercise room. The hotel smelled like old water leak and our room did not have hot water. Seems like they need serious renovations to an older hotel. The vallet parked cars in the pay to park parking lot next door... which we could have done ourselves. The restaurant and bar are not operating. The brunch is only open on sunday morning. I spoke with the manager about the experience and was compensated.

It was novel that it was a historic building, but apart from that it was nothing special especially for the price. I've stayed a few different hotels in this area and they were better in just about every way. The rooms here were pretty small. The architecture and decor was fine, but not what I was expecting. I don't know that I would stay here again.

They've gone from "The Sam Houston Hotel" to "Alden Hotel" and now back to "Sam Houston Hotel." Despite the confusion, it's not bad for a $150/night stay. It's in the heart of downtown, they've got a revamped bar (Sam Bar) downstairs, trendy lobby, onsite restaurant (17*) and pretty popular terrace perfect for quaint weddings and banquets. My room had a nice view of Downtown; I was on the 9th floor and could see Chase Tower and a happenin' Main Street. You'll find that the bathroom and room is larger than most boutique hotel rooms. The major downside is the service. There aren't ice machines on any of the floors, so you have to request it. I was in the bridal sweet and we requested three buckets of ice. More than an hour later, someone showed up with ONE bucket of ice. Fail. This seemed to be a reoccurring theme other bridesmaids experienced. As for the wedding in the terrace, by 9pm the room was uncomfortably hot. The vents over the dance floor where kickin', but everyone at the tables was miserable. Being the maid of honor, I took it upon myself to request multiple times to turn down the thermostat and make sure all the vents were on. It's as if they wanted to cut the cost of the AC halfway through the event. Awful! And the $28/day parking, I didn't mind paying. I did, however, didn't like being charged $16 extra. (I paid the difference for a friend who left her car there overnight - she already paid the $12 daily rate - and there was a $16 difference for the nightly rate. They charged me the full $28.) Also, my room (914) was missing the blackout blinds for one window, so it was a bright and sunny morning at 7am - not fun for a gal who stayed up til 4am the night before. I'd recommend SHH for a business night stay, but honestly, I prefer the Magnolia down the street. They have a rooftop pool and better, organized customer service.

I love weddings. I love watching two people pledge eternal love for each other, then following it up with food, dancing, cake, and an open bar. You'd have to be made of stone not to appreciate the rare opportunities of life that blend love, food, dancing, cake, and an open bar. I will also cut someone to catch the bouquet. Anyways. It was with much pleasure and delight that I RSVP'd "yes" to my friend Kit's mother's remarriage, to be held at The Sam Houston Hotel. First things first: If I were Yelping the event itself, I'd give it 5 Stars without a moment's hesitation. I am always thrilled to be a part of these soirees, and this wedding was no exception. However...if we take away the personal aspects of the stay here, and review the operational aspects alone, it is clear there is still a lot of work to be done at The Sam Houston Hotel. My first sign of disorganization came in the form of booking the hotel. I could sit and here and describe a multi-week long process of calling and recalling the hotel in an attempt to book a room in the wedding block; I could describe being ping-ponged back and forth between "Reservations" and "Front Desk", two totally different entities, neither of whom knew what the other one had said; and I could lament that *I* had to follow up and confirm my booking with them the day before the wedding, and not the other way around. The people on the other end were friendly; it just seemed no one had the slightest clue what they were doing. Check-In: I appreciate a boutique hotel; walking in and seeing their unique lobby with modern touches--and what I thought were neon fish tanks--did not go unappreciated. Check-in was smooth and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. I think in my quick tip I mentioned the front desk guy was cute, and later on I determined there were at least two of them who were. It helps. The room: Even though this is in a historic building, clearly it has been revamped. I will echo the sentiments of other reviewers and declare the room was certainly the best part of the hotel. It reminded me of one of those IKEA mockups of a small apartment they have in the middle of the store. I enjoyed a comfy bed, flat screen TV, plenty of room, and it was clean. The bathroom was a mini-spa, and while most hotel bathrooms don't usually get a shout out from me, the Sam Houston's is the exception. Although, my toilet was running endlessly when I arrived, so a plumber had to be summoned to fix it. Miscellaneous: No one has ever heard of this place, because it used to be called "The Alden". Before that, it was "The Sam Houston". Yeah, it was confusing. It seemed the place hadn't quite made the transition yet, e.g., the room service menus still boasted "The Alden" on everything. There seemed to be quite a lot of staff (more than guests that I saw), and the downstairs restaurant and lounge all seemed pretty empty. Not a whole hell of a lot going on, basically. As a venue: Once things got into full swing with the wedding, I will say that the hotel made for a great event space. The ceremony on the upstairs terrace was beautiful; cocktail hour in the lobby accommodated everyone comfortably; the turnaround on the space for the reception was fast. Dinner consisted of a delicious filet, and service was prompt and non-intrusive. Post-event interviews reveal my friends all seemed to give the event a rave review. Bonuses: The Sam Houston has a complimentary car service that will take you and/or pick you up from any destination downtown; I myself was shuttled to and from brunch at The Grove. That was fantastic. I was also able to check my luggage for the day, and print out my return boarding pass at the lobby terminal. So, here are my final thoughts. The Sam Houston has the potential to thrive, but only by paying attention to detail. Had I not been there for the wedding, I would have preferred to be at a hotel that had ALL its ducks in a row, and not just some of them. I guess what hurts is that everyone is so nice there, but nice won't cut it when it comes to running a hotel. There is a lot of work to be done, but it's not all a lost cause. 2.5 Stars for the hotel...4 stars as a venue space...and 5 stars for seeing my friends, and hitting on the bride's nephew WAY more than I should have at the reception. So... 3 Stars for The Sam Houston, I suppose.

Stayed here with points because it was ranked the one of the best from Hilton. Digital checked in to 1004. Got 1001 which had stains on the sheets, scuffed walls, floors and the couch was stained with a beautiful parking lot view. They switched us to a not so stained room with a view of the homeless party outside, which I get they can't help especially during Covid. But it wasn't what was advertised. If I paid full price I would've been not so happy. The customer service was great. Everyone was friendly.

I had a wonderful experience having my wedding ceremony and reception at The Sam Houston Hotel. The Veranda Room is gorgeous, and the hotel made several notable updates to the space between the time I signed my contract and the day of the wedding - new ivy on the wall, chandeliers and additional greenery lining the open window. It was the perfect backdrop for a morning wedding with so much natural light coming into The Veranda Room. Our guests were so impressed by the hotel, and the staff was so helpful. Love this place.

Stopped in for a nights stay with my mom. Very polite staff from the moment we arrived. Facts: - complimentary driver around downtown only. You just step outside they call him for you, take you where you want to go or recommend places for you to go if your new to the area. - complimentary breakfast: bagel, yogurt, fruit and oatmeal. Nothing big it fancy but perfect for on the go. - clean rooms and comfortable beds! Very hip!!! If ever in the area again this will be where I lay my head down! Everything was just so easy!!!

Cute boutique hotel downtown Houston: upscale and affordable. I would give the room a four, and everything else a 2-3- quite a few quirks, glitches, but nice modern rooms and great potential! After a really painful check in process in the sleek lobby area, I was relieved to find my tiny but impeccably designed room quite suitable to my taste and needs. Water! Snacks! Groovy Chaise lounge! Designer paint colors, fabulous furnishings and a modern bathroom slathered in granite...plus a comfy bed. Quite honestly, this is one of the nicer rooms I have been in in the last year. I used the free shuttle service to get to the convention center- excellent! Upon my return, there was a note and some treats from the front desk apologizing for the weird check in. Nice! So some of the glitches: No toilet paper.. At all. But there were tissues! (Woops!) The $4 Voss water tasted like bad tap water....hmmmmm Room Service: I could not find a menu in the room so ordered salmon and a glass of wine. It was $78!!! I sent the wine, a 3 ounce pour at $22/glass, back!!! Ridiculous! So watch out there! Also: the $36 Salmon was a 5 oz fillet with a little rice. No veggies, bread, ice water, nada. Hmmmm . Room service never picked up the tray. That nasty salmon greeted me 8 hours later, still on the floor at 7 am! Breakfast in the associated restaurant was pathetic- a business party of 6. I am submitting that review separately. So there is room for improvement for sure, but overall for one night, this was ok.

Great rooms, great bar and neat history. Great spot in downtown, too. The shuttle service is a nice touch as well! Just watch the little elevators- they close pretty fast and won't stop if you stick your arm out to try and make the door open back up!

Mostly friendly staff; unfortunately, whomever was in charge of housekeeping and front desk duty from Sunday-Tuesday was left two specific messages by three different people about an extremely personal, and extremely important item, along with where it was kept in the room I stayed in last weekend. Now I'm leaving town tomorrow, and I can only assume the worst (stolen) if I've been this belligerently ignored for almost 5 days in a row. Not a great way to treat your customers.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating! The hotel was just ok/decent. However, the area is questionable. There was a rather large homeless camp one corner up from the hotel with about 15-20 bums sleeping on the sidewalk with their belongings. Also, the bar hours were limited and there wasn't much entertainment nearby. I did not feel safe leaving the hotel on foot to explore the area. The valet was convenient.

I have been a loyal Hilton Honors member for 15 years, I will always choose from the brands they offer. When they started adding Curio hotels, even better..... they are more quaint, stylish, sometimes smaller rooms but the service and the "extras" ~ hotels restaurants, bar, coffee shops (not at this one though) make it so worth it. I was in town visiting and only needed a hotel one night. I called the hotel directly for a same day reservation and the man literally said to me, "you'd be better off to just come in, if I make your reservation now and you don't show, you will be charged!" Wait............ WHAT???? First of all, I'm driving to your hotel as we speak and since when does a front desk employee NOT make a reservation! I was so annoyed! Then when I arrive to the front of the hotel..... (I was being dropped off in front)... two valet guys very aggressively came to the car window and said, "checking in? Can you move your car, the shuttle parks here and they'll be back shortly." I told them I was hopping out to grab my luggage would take a minute..... they insisted on moving the car. Two strikes and I haven't even walked in yet. Here's the only thing that makes me give this 3 stars..... the woman behind the counter I wish i could remember her name was fabulous! I told her about my calling experience, even she was shocked! And yes, the man I had spoken to was standing right next to her... I recognized his voice! **Management, it was Saturday night, October 12th 9PM, so you know who it is** She made the check in experience great. Told me they offer Diamond members a complimentary drink so after dropping my luggage I went for a glass of wine.... Amy in the bar was very welcoming and friendly. If it wasn't for these two ladies, my rating would be a 1! I don't recommend this hotel but at least they helped my experience. Thank you ladies!

It is a cute little hotel, friendly service, the rooms are a little small but the bathrooms are renovated and they are all granite, comfortable beds, great linens, friendly valet parking, a bar and a restaurant, nice lobby area. The location is excellent, theater district, walking distance to bars and restaurants, it's quiet, so you can sleep. It's not as expensive as other boutique hotels.

I love the decor in this modernized historic hotel. It is very much on trend, with white, beige and metallics the predominant colors and a blend of textures in the lobby, from plush MCM couches to mirrored, cubed coffee tables to blown glass vases. The room makes good use of its space, the rooms are smallish but large enough to lay down a yoga mat and stretch out, if that's your thing (as it is mine). Note: when the bellman warns to watch out for the clear glass desk's sharp corners, take heed. The threat is real. The staff here are attentive and very helpful. Finally, the bathroom travel sundries are wonderful and high quality! Overall a great one-night experience.

I cannot say enough nice things about the staff here at the Sam Houston Curio Hotel. I am staying here for three days for my son's robotics convention. They have ensured I had transportation/Shuttle to and from the convention center, if I wanted. When I choose to walk they ensured I knew where to go. The entire staff are incredibly friendly and professional; from the reception desk, to the valet, to the restaurant. I travel often for work and rarely give much thought to where I'm staying, as most places seem basically the same, just different locations. The staff here at the Sam Houston sets this hotel apart from the rest.

While the location is good, 2 blks from Main St., the asthetics are Mediocre. There are Bad smells in the elevators & bar/restaurant, and Very Poor sound proofing of outside noise in rooms!! I could literally hear the buses & people on the street from the on 9th Floor! Our suite was very nice but the furniture was a little on the cheap side. The Service & Waitstaff were awesome, and the food was very good.

Seemed decent enough. Its a Hilton property but is technically a boutique hotel style. Room not huge but tall ceiling and everything newish and clean. Good bar with decent taps available. Breakfast buffet on the weekends is $21 so helps to be a diamond Hilton member and get that free. But was good food. Service in the entire hotel from the front desk to the valet guys to the breakfast staff were above and beyond polite, helpful and genuinely welcoming. So bravo Hilton, you have a well run team here. Parking is valet only and pricey but everything is downtown.

I'm surprised the other reviews aren't so positive. I loved this place! I travel a lot for work and have stayed at probably 10 other places in the area. This one was #2 behind the Four Seasons (hard to beat the four seasons in all fairness!) First off, the decor inside is awesome. It's funky, modern and elegant all at the same time. The check in desk was very nice and told me about local hot spots to visit. The room was CLEAN and well kept. Nothing broken or needing repair. There are nice touches that add an expensive feel to the place such as a heavy glass shower door, built in flat screen tv and firm bed. I slept better than I have in a long time. The room was nice and cold and didn't have that musty or humid smell some hotels do. They have a fun bar downstairs that gets busy at night. The gym was not the best but they have one. Personally I think they should expand it if they can and add natural light. It was a little dungeony for my taste. The hotel offers a COMPLIMENTARY BREAKFAST, bottles of water and COMPLIMENTARY downtown shuttle that takes you to nearby places! The price is great too compared to other hotels and there are tons of cute bars/restaurants within walking distance. Check out Prohibition, Grove, sambuca, blue fish and Moonshiners. Best of luck!

DO NOT STAY HERE! Upon arrival there was BLOOD on one of the pillows on our bed, the toilet was clogged AND the bath tub was clogged with hair! If I could give this hotel a 0 star that would be more fitting! We addressed the front desk regarding these issues and got "sorry about that" as if it was no big deal. As if all this was not enough to make our stay completely uncomfortable we were awakened in the middle of the night by our DRUNK neighbors screaming and throwing things! WE WILL NOT BE BACK!
