Awesome ice cream sandwiches which are very unique, homemade. The biscuit part of the ice cream sandwiches are very soft and sweet. Adorable packaging. The vegan flavors for the cones are good too for lactose intolerant customers. Fudge swirl was perfect. Right off cook st., very enjoyable, I recommend.

This ice cream shop is absolutely adorable! Right when you walk in, you can tell it’s special — from the award plaques on the wall to the thoughtful little design touches throughout the space. The ice cream itself is unique and full of flavor. It’s not overly sweet — just perfectly balanced with rich, natural ingredients. We especially loved the coconut-based flavors — creamy, aromatic, and surprisingly light. Some of them are blended with berries, which adds a fun twist. Bonus: It’s vegan-friendly, so it’s a great option for people with dairy sensitivities or those who follow a plant-based lifestyle. The staff was incredibly sweet and helpful — they patiently introduced the flavors and made us feel so welcome. The whole place gives off a cozy and playful vibe. Totally recommend this spot if you’re ever in Victoria!

The ice cream itself was creamy, rich, refreshing, and the macaron and cookie added a delightful texture and taste. If you're looking for unique and delicious ice cream creations, Cold Comfort is a must-visit. Their innovative flavors and perfect pairings make them one of the best ice cream experiences we've ever had.

Been a few years since our last visit to Cold Comfort. They’re known for their ice cream sandwiches ($9.00). Surprisingly, only four ice cream flavours were available. We tried a sundae ($7.00) and two scoop cup ($7.00). For the two scoop, we picked vegan mint chip (standard) and vegan raspberry (good). The fact that they call this a two scoop is a joke. The tiniest scoops we’ve ever received. Sundae was okay, unmemorable. CC doesn’t come close to Parachute Ice Cream’s offerings.

Cold Comfort Ice Cream was highly recommended to us, since my husband is an ice cream fanatic and I'm dairy-free. We walked over on a very warm day and found this place tucked around the backside of a building in a parking lot. You'd have to know it was back there, but it made it feel like a more local, less touristy place. With a 4.7 rating, lots of locals do know about it. Love their motto: Doing whatever the hell we feel like since 2010. Friendly customer service and they answered questions. I was thrilled to be able to order a small cup (one scoop) of very creamy vegan mint chocolate chip $4 and my husband ordered The Plain Jane ice cream sandwich $8, which was vanilla ice cream in a chocolate cookie sandwich. Very good and I'm so glad we tried this local favorite. Very good prices. They were out of some items, so I'd go early if you have a favorite. Pints also available. They have the cutest delivery vehicle, too.

We ordered the gluten-free salted caramel and the Purple Haze sandwiches – both were absolutely delicious! I honestly didn’t want them to end while eating. Plus, the staff was super friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend!

This ice cream shop is located in our neighborhood and offers different flavors every day. It's a must-try, and they also have a vegan flavor. ☺️

This was a new experience and a local favorite. Delicious regular and lactose free ice cream sandwiches and pints. We had a plain Jane ice cream sandwich. Vanilla ice cream between chocolate chip cookies. So yummy!!! They also sell various flavors in pints. I totally recommend this place if you can find it.

Cold Comfort may just have my favorite ice cream sandwich in the world! The burnt sugar ice cream nestled between two golden graham cookies that are perfectly chewy, even with the cold from the ice cream... a lovely balance of sweet and salty, just splendid! The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because everything is just so dang expensive. $9 for an ice cream sandwich? They are pretty sizable, but that is a pretty penny to pay. Lovely little store, lots of fun items/merch lining the walls. Worth a once-in-a-while splurge treat kind of frequency!

COVID #47 Located in an alley at the back of a building. Blink and you'll miss it. You really do have to look for it. You won't if you've read my review. Pfffffffftttttt....... Ice cream sandwich quite good. See my pic. They have a private parking lot in the back that faces the storefront. Worth a visit.

I had an amazing experience at this ice cream place! The vegan ice cream sandwich was simply fantastic! The range of flavors they offer is excellent, and the taste was out of this world. The ambiance is cosy! The host was very friendly, and even provided excellent recommendations. I highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for delicious vegan and dairy treats. Five stars all the way!"

I do not understand why this place gets four stars. The ice cream here does not taste any better than an average ice cream shop. Also, because this place is located in an alley on the back side of a building, there is no dedicated parking lot. Street parking can be hard to find. I ordered a vanilla ice cream sandwich and was not impressed at all. The sandwich was made using chocolate chip cookies instead of the more common biscuit or wafer.

This is our second time at Cold Comfort after having been here many many years ago and unfortunately I was left disappointed after my most recent visit. The ice cream shop is currently located in an alleyway can be a bit difficult to find. The first visit I had was amazing as we got ice cream in a cone but this time they didn't have any so instead decided to get a pumpkin pie ice cream sandwich and a roasted peach sorbet popsicle from Kid Sister. Both cost $8 and I highly recommend for people to avoid getting the popsicle as it was SO SMALL compared to the sandwich. The popsicle taste was alright but definitely not $8 worth. On the other hand, the pumpkin pie ice cream sandwich was not bad and had good flavor but giving my extreme disappointment with the popsicle, I could not give it more than 3 stars.

The very well hidden but charming Cold comfort is our go-to spot for perfect ice cream sandwiches. We tried several flavours such as: plaine Jane, Choc O Clock but our favorite hands down Golden Graham. Words cannot explain but odds are you won't be disappointed. The Golden Graham consists the heavenly mix of salted caramel ice cream with Graham crumb cookies. If you are looking for a refreshing dessert, this little gem is the place. They also offer vegan options.

Your ice cream always changes me a little bit for the better every time I have some! I've had it at work functions, gone there with some strange folks, and eaten on my own; each time I am amazed at the work they do! I'm a super bug fan of the local collabs, having said that, anything else that's not a collab is just fine by me! Especially love those cracker sandwiches Do us a favour and kindly DON'T think about leaving, no pressure or anything!

J recommended we check out another ice cream shop in town, Cold Comfort, so we dropped in on a late Sunday afternoon. They're located right beside Fernwood Coffee Company. The inside is small but it's a cute spot. There's three small stool chairs in the back but that's it for seating inside. You can find more room outside out front or in their parking lot. Love it. Lots of items to choose from: ice cream sandwiches, scoops, pints, pies and cake. Everything is handmade and pricey. Pints are $12.00. They do have some unique flavours such as vegan horchata and dairy free Hoyne dark matter. They had 7 flavours of ice cream to choose from when we visited. No cones here. They're part of the zero waste revolution so make sure you compost your scraps if you stick around to eat your ice cream. - Local pumpkin and Hoyne dark matter ($5.00 two scoops) - the pumpkin tasted just like pumpkin pie. The dark matter was just like the beer. Different texturally as it's dairy free but good. We liked it but the amount of ice cream you get is small. Very small. Worth a try. Crazy that they've made over 400 flavours since they've opened.

Came here on a Tuesday evening around 7pm and found that they were sold out of a lot of flavors and sold out of cones. We sampled the tamarind and cardamom and the Dark Matter but didn't like either one. It would have been nice to try other flavors, but we were scraping the bottom of the barrel so we didn't order any ice cream. They did have more flavors in pints available, but we didn't want to commit to that much ice cream. The person behind the counter was very nice though. She suggested we try to come back at an earlier time to sample more.

I have been frequenting Cold Comfort since it first opened since I've been in Fernwood over 25 years, and bars were 3 or 4 dollars. However, today I bought a brown sugar ice cream which was supposed to be like caramel and it was terrible. Even worse is the price- 10.00. I think there is enough very high quality ice cream available in supermarkets and niches that this is now the bottom end of ice cream. The sandwhich was overly sweet and sugary and quite dry. I found the entire thing completely poor and one huge disappointment- I actually threw half of it in the garbage. Perhaps it was a one off with the flavour I chose but I doubt it. I have always had a stamped card for this business but this is the last time I'll be going there- the crappy ice cream and ridiculous price left me cold. I'm done and will buy from other suppliers who make much better products for more reasonable prices. I've always shopped locally, but this kind of bad quality doesn't warrant the price.

I always feel good after eating Cold Comforts ice cream! They vegan, gluten free options are always my go to and they taste nothing like what you would expect for gluten free, vegan ice cream and ice cream sandwiches. The icream is always sweet, rich and creamy, while the cookies are soft, chewy, and just melt in your mouth! The ice cream flavours are all so unique and very local, which I love, love, love!!! And they all pair so well with the cookies they make for their sandwiches! Whenever I go I spend at least $50 just so I can stock my freezer with yummy gluten/dairy free goodness! My non - gluten free, vegan friends also enjoy Cold Comforts ice cream, as they have regular ice cream as well!

Although I haven't explored as much as I would like of Victoria's ice cream options but compared to my global experiences, Cold Comfort is truly top notch! As you would read from many of my other reviews, I've recently been nurturing a robust ice cream obsession. I had conducted a 5 stop ice cream tour of Vancouver city prior to having visited Victoria. I hadn't even considered trying to find an ice cream stop while here but my brother in law's girlfriend suggests this great visit after I told her about my Vancouver ice cream adventures. Wow! I was not disappointed! Cold Comfort is GREAT! What I really love about this place is that the owner is very adventurous with exploring new flavours. I actually ordered more than one ice cream but the absolute standout amazing experience was the Rosemary and Sour Cherry! This was the first time I had experienced a savoury herb in ice cream and it's absolutely opened my mind! I would even say that this experience was the moment I decided that I had to start becoming an ice cream maker myself so that I could explore the weird and wonderful and leave behind the regular that we all mostly live with. If you find yourself in Victoria or even live here, you MUST visit Cold Comfort! P.S. As I'm about to hit post to finish this review, I noticed a low star review in which someone is criticizing this place because of the weird flavours. This place is not suitable for adventureless milquetoast foozlers.

Cold Comfort is a good place to pick up an ice cream sandwich for a quick fix on your way home, but I would avoid the overpriced scoops. As some other reviewers have pointed out, the sample sizes were tiny, so you can't really know what you're going to get. The ice cream sandwiches were a decent size and are a much better value compared to the scoops. I definitely enjoyed the one that I got (vanilla bean with chocolate chip cookies), but I missed being able to choose my cookie and ice cream combination. The shop didn't have any cones, but I loved that they embraced the reasoning behind it. They are a small operation, so they choose to focus on high-quality ice cream and ice cream sandwiches. The shop is tiny, so it's hard to move around if it's busy. There is some seating right outside, however.

Interesting spot, don't go if you want a sundae or cone, they do ice cream sandwiches and ice cream cakes, fairly unique and tasty. Prices are as expected. Give them a try.

Needing a lil something sweet I Yelped "Ice Cream" and what a find. The service was over the top kind and helpful, which I am unaccustomed to in CA. They have several flavor options with most being vegan. I sampled a few and I have to say both were tasty and I was unable to detect the absence of cream. I opted for the Salted Caramel Graham cookie sandwich ... yummy.

Outstanding independent, homemade ice cream shop. My spouse and I go here for creative flavors that you won't find anywhere else. Our favorite (when it is offered) is "The Mountain"!

Oh. My. Goodness. If you like ice cream and you hate boring, a visit (or ten) to Cold Comfort is a MUST. They have 7 super cool, handmade types of ice cream every day and so far, have showcased over 400 unique flavours. Get ready to try types of ice cream that you've never even dreamed about, like their White Russian, or their ROYGBIV (a rainbow ice cream with a name that all elementary school teachers will love). I first found out about Cold Comfort about a year ago and every time I pass through its area of the city, I can't help myself from wishing it was Friday. Every Friday, Cold Comfort partners up with another super rad local business, Empire Donuts, to combine their ice cream with Empire's gourmet donuts to create greatness in the form of donut ice cream sandwiches. That's right, TGIF just got a whole lot more meaning. I've seen a lot of reviews talking about their tiny samples, but my experience with them doesn't match up. I recommend checking it out for yourself to make a final decision because I take EVERYONE there when they come to Victoria. If you're looking for a tasty treat in Vic, be sure to keep Cold Comfort in mind, and remember, try to swing by on a Friday for extra delicious-ness!

Sadly their quality has continued to deteriorate, they have gotten too successful and they no longer care about customers or quality. I gave them a few tries but unfortunately won't be back

Look, I will make it really simple. If you are GF/DF then you probably have not even thought about and ice cream sandwich in, oh I don't know, forever right? Well, if you happen to be in Victoria then you need to go here 4-5 times in two days like we did. It was not just the fact that the GF/DF ice cream bars existed. Oh no. It was the fact that they existed and were freaking amazing!!!!! We had the chocolate cookie + mint chocolate chip ice cream and the vanilla cookie + salted caramel ice cream. Both are out of this world tasty and quite a belly full too. The shop is small and a touch hard to see, but they have ample parking and lots of options including vegan too. Don't walk to get here though. Run! Because when they are out they are out

Had the Dark Matter Icecream. So goood! It was basically a macaroon icecream sandwhich supposedly it's suppose to taste like beer but I'm not really a beer drinker so I was a bit hesitant. My husband tried it and said it slightly does but when I tried it, it didn't really hit me that it did which is a win win. Very reasonable priced for the portion and the product. Definitely recommend!

My first foray into Victoria's ice cream scene resulted in this salted caramel ice cream at Cold Comfort, a small independently owned ice cream shop just off Cook Street (no, I didn't care that it was like 3 degrees out and that I ate this outside ). Two scoops of rich, creamy, full-bodied caramel flavour that wasn't too sweet, with just that hint of saltiness: perfectly balanced flavours. The house-made waffle cone is also very good. It's quite thin, so I was concerned it might be brittle, but it definitely held its integrity (well....apart from me eating it...). The selection is more limited than some of the ice cream shops I frequent in Vancouver, but the level of care they've clearly put into each flavour makes up for this and can't be ignored. I was able to sample all of them, and while I liked some more than others, it was easy to appreciate the craft behind each flavour, especially when the employee behind the counter had such a thorough knowledge of each one. At $7.50 ($5.50 for the ice cream, and a hefty $2 for the cone), this was not cheap, but I think I'd still come back to try something else. So all things considered, this gets an easy recommendation despite the steep price point and small selection, because great ice cream is still great ice cream. Seek with confidence!

This place is just... weird. The vast majority of flavours are vegan, dairy-free, or sugar-free, you get the idea. It's not a normal ice cream joint in that sense. Then again, if you want dairy-free, sugar-free etc, then this is your place. A lot of the flavours are very non traditional. Turmeric and Horchata, for example. First time there my girlfriend and I ordered one ice cream. The guy working finally spent the first few minutes while we were there looking uninterested on his cellphone. When we finally got his attention, he was reluctant to let us try any flavours. When he did, he gave us such a small amount that we could barely get a sense of it anyway. The one ice cream came to $10.00. We realized that after the fact that a single scoop is $5.00. He double charged us, thinking we were gonna order separately. When he realize we weren't, he didn't bother correcting it. The ice cream, flavours and service are better at both Big Sister and Parachute. If you want your artisanal ice cream fix in Victoria, go to one of those instead.

Reasonable selection for non-dairy options. The price, however, was unapologetic. Average, as far as good ice cream goes. I liked the Beer flavour, but the kids threw out the Vanilla (but seriously, what do kids know about ice cream).

The ice cream is all hand made and they have some interesting flavours. Some use dairy, some use coconut milk. They don't offer samples so it was hard to choose, especially as I wasn't sure if I'd like any of the coconut milk-based ones. And they're pricey, which makes it hard to choose wisely. I would tend to stick with safe options under these conditions, which I think doesn't allow me to write a better review.

Overpriced overly elaborate hipster recipes that end up bland. I'd go with Kid Sister if given the choice

Best ice cream Ive ever had and their cakes are amazing. You can pre-order one for special occasions but you're not promised the filling as it's based on what they have in stock. Their products are fresh and I believe organic. Love their shop too.

Their beer ice-cream was one of the most unique flavor there is! My boyfriend absolutely loved it. All their other flavors were unique but not for me. I opted for the salted caramel sandwich with golden Graham cookies. That was delicious! Definitely not too many choices to choose from, more of a pick-and-go type of place because it was very small...but for what we had I definitely liked them a lot. Points off for the other flavors that were too unique for my taste!

This isn't cheap, but it's creative and delicious. The chili chocolate ice cream sandwich was incredible, especially with the coffee from Fernwood next door. This is well worth stopping for a bite.

We decided to try out a new delivery service in town and the driver couldn't seem to find Cold Comfort before it closed. Luckily the peeps working stayed open late for the driver to go back and pick it up for us. Best customer service ever! And the icecream is always good too! ;)

Just yes. This place is a must if you are ever in the area. All the ice cream, cookies, and cones are hand made and taste it. I got the choc o' clock ice cream sandwich (basically a triple chocolate chipwich) and immediately fell into a food coma. Probably the best ice cream I've ever had. It was so good I forgot to take a picture of my ice cream sandwich and ate it immediately. The staff were very friendly and helpful. If I'm ever in the area again, guaranteed you will find me here.

Ice cream is becoming a competitive market in Vic with Kid Sister, Parachute, Charlie's, Favoris, Jackson's, 49 Below etc. The Cold Comfort niche is artisanal, localvore, house-made with vegan (sometimes sugar-free) options. Expensive but hand-crafted, organic, quality ice cream made fresh at their tiny vintage-style shop in Fernwood. They serve 7 ever-changing flavours and profiles are always innovative, non-traditionalist and seasonal made with all locally sourced/harvested ingredients, many made in-house like cookie dough, birthday cake, Nanaimo bar etc. They partner with local farms and businesses like Fernwood coffee, Phillips beer, Silk Road tea etc to create unique flavours. They have created over 400 different flavour profiles over the years. Portions are tiny but quality over quantity - $5 per two petite scoops (no cones). A real indulgence. The dairy-free sandwich bars are delicious. I recently tried the sea salt caramel wafer bar and it was so heavenly I think I'm now addicted... mmmm

We just love it here!! We had to come back again :-) it's our favorite. I can't even tell you which one to get because they are all amazing! This is the best ice cream sandwich EVER. I love Autumn!

Oh wow....this place is my heaven. Amazing, interesting flavours, cool ambiance in the shop. My favourite flavours are: (1) lavender rosemary & black pepper (2) london fog (3) honey and lavender They sell them by the scoop, in pints, and in sandwiches. I HIGHLY recommend you get a sandwich. The cookie part is fantastic. You'll initially be shocked by the price....but remember, we're not talking about some ordinary ice cream you can buy at the corner store. We're talking about gourmet, only-made-in-small-batches, locally owned and managed ice cream. Trust me, it makes a difference. Love you cold comfort!!

We did a lot of research on dessert places in Victoria, and came across this one. Their ice cream only had six or seven flavor options. And the cost is ridiculous! You get two tiny scoops for $5. The maple walnut was not creamy whatsoever. The only redeeming thing we're the pralines, which were pan fried with sugar. The chocolate was creamy, but how can you mess up such a simple flavor? Never coming back here.

I have never had this good of home made ice cream. They make it daily and have a variety of new flavours. Definitely a must check out if in Victoria!!!

Always great ice cream treats! Have ordered pints, sammies and cakes, and all are fantastic. Recently enjoyed a lovely gin and tonic sandwich, but my all time favorite is the chocolate chip cookie and vanilla ice cream sandwich:)

As one friend put it: 'Cold Comfort is the way forward'. I have to say, not being a sweets fan, I was truly sceptical of a 14CAD pint of ice-cream (no, that's not a typo). With dove-eyes, my spouse convinced me to splurge, and I am indebted to her. Well done, Cold Comfort. An ice-cream appreciator you have made out of me. We went to the source, which is well out of your way, though you can pick up the product around town. Do so; this is not a pilgrimage site.

The ice cream here is amazing! We got the ice cream sandwiches which were out of this world. The worst part about Cold Comfort is that I can't get it everyday.

Still the best place for pure, creative, delicious ice cream in Victoria but now (September 2014) they also carry local farm eggs and cheese, great local bread, nuts, ethically sourced fish and what other local, organic wonders they can get their hands on.

Really delicious ice cream! Adorable layout and everything looks so delectable I'll definitely come back to try more! Many local ingredients as well very nice.

COLD COMFORT RUINED MY HUSBANDS BIRTHDAY! STAY AWAY! I ordered a cake, confirmed it three times and when I got home it was made incorrectly. It was missing a layer of ice cream and was falling apart because there was nothing sticking the layers together. it was really important to me that the cake was done properly because my husband wanted to get it from dairy queen but I thought I could do better than that. Everyone was looking forward to the cake and it was embarrassing how terrible it turned out. I had called the establishment to speak with the manager and after four days she had still not returned my phone call. After two additional calls I got through to her and she was not only less then helpful but extremely rude. She took no responsibility for the mistake and refused a refund. This company has zero integrity.
