"Crossing the Øresund Bridge Usually I take a train across the Øresund Bridge, an engineering marvel that connects Malmo, Sweden, to Copenhagen , Denmark. Unfortunately, the train travels below the vehicle deck, which means you can’t actually see the bridge. And this is a bridge worth seeing. The crossing itself is about 10 miles. Coming from the Swedish side, the first five miles of your trip is over a bridge that floats 187 feet above the water before briefly landing on an island and then diving into a tunnel beneath the sea. The girder and cable-stayed bridge section has two pairs of free-standing cable-support towers that seem to grow in height as you approach . . . until they disappear into the sky. Even on a road that is more than 200 feet above the surface of the water, the tops of those towers are still almost another 400 feet above. Rent a car and take a trip across (either Copenhagen or Malmo makes a good day trip), but be prepared to pay a hefty fee for the privilege. The toll is roughly $60 U.S. each way. We crossed this bridge when we took a little detour from our tour of Sweden and ventured into Copenhagen. It was pretty rainy while we were there but even so it was a very pretty architectural design joining the two countries. The bridge is about 5 miles with part of the crossing being underwater. From the bridge you can get a great view of the Denmark and Swedish coasts as well as the Oresund strait. There wasn't much traffic when we were there and you can get from downtown Malmo to downtown Copenhagen in about 20-30 minutes. The real downside is that crossing by car will cost you around 45 euro each way! Now if you can leave your car on one side or the other and take a train or bus it will only cost you about 10.

WHAT? The bridge is interesting and the views are beautiful, but I was charged about US$60 ... EACH WAY That's bonkers for a bridge crossing. I have never seen that TV show about a murder on this bridge so that aspect meant nothing to me, but I guess fans of the show geek out about that.

Transportation AND Destination On our recent trip to Copenhagen our extended family enjoyed a daytrip to Malmo. This was made fast and convenient by the train over the Oresund Bridge. It's hard to beat travelling between two countries in under an hour downtown to downtown with service every 20 minutes. The icing on the cake was the view of Denmark, Sweden, and the Oresund strait.

It is the fast way and the beautiful way to go between Denmark and Sweden! It is deadly pricey, but oh so smooth. SEK395 / DKK345 which is abt USD55 or €45. They accept AMEX. Tale the lane marked with a card. There are also manual stations.

What if the border between two countries was a beautiful bridge with a stunning, breathtaking view? Well, this is exactly what happen at Öresundsbron. If you are traveling from/to Sweden and Denmark, in a train or car you will get to see this place in the best way possible. It took about 5 minutes in a train to cross the whole thing, and gladly I was recording it, so I can see it over and over again. The next station after you cross the bridge is Mälmo's central station, which is also conveniently downtown. Really worth it to take the 5h train ride from Copenhagen to Stockholm just to go over this bridge. s2

Well, unless you're traveling for business, you might take the train since it is much cheaper to get over the bridge that way. For a car, you can expect to pay some high prices - I think roughly 30 USD each way. It's a great bridge and beautiful from many angles. Let's face it - if you're driving, there's really no other way since the ferries are ridiculously priced as well.

On a trip last week to Copenhagen we decided to take the bridge to Sweden and spend a day in Malmo. It is surprisingly easy traveling from Copenhagen Central Station, Denmark to Malmo Central Station, Sweden. The trip takes about 35 minutes station to station and is quite an exciting trip. After leaving the airport, the train travels through a tunnel under water out onto an Island in the middle of the waterway separating Denmark and Sweden. From there you are elevated onto the large Oresund Bridge and into Sweden. The cost is expensive to drive, although the views are supposed to be incredible (i believe about 45 Eur each way), the train was probably about 10 Eur each way. The bus is priced similarly and gives you the great views too however the train gives you the speed and leaves you right in the middle of Malmo.
