"A Modern Sanctuary High Above the City What this 66-room property lacks in proximity to the Old Town (it’s a 25-minute tram ride to Bahnhofstrasse), it more than makes up for with its prime hillside perch on the Zürichberg overlooking the city below, and just beyond, Lake Zürich and the majestic snow-capped Alps. Spread across a restored Art Nouveau building and a modern annex with a Guggenheim-like corkscrew ramp, the minimalist, stylish rooms come with shocks of color—for instance, purple Arne Jacobsen Swan chairs. Guests can borrow bikes to make their way to the nearby Fluntern Cemetery, where James Joyce is buried, or meander the wooded paths of the Zürichberg forest."

Sorell Hotel Zürichberg Review | Hotels Above Par

"Perched high on the wooded Zurichberg hill about a 10-minute drive from downtown, this classically designed 19th-century hotel—modernized inside—offers 66 sleek, minimalist rooms and suites with warm wood accents, private workspaces, and sweeping views over the city and Lake Zurich. Guests receive complimentary breakfast featuring a buffet of fresh fruits, yogurts and Swiss cheeses plus made-to-order eggs and pancakes, and there is a dedicated mimosa bar; dinner at the on-site restaurant emphasizes traditional Swiss dishes prepared with locally grown produce and is especially enjoyable when eaten outdoors. Public spaces include a veranda/terrace just off the ground-floor lobby that provides some of the best vistas in Zurich, and amenities such as a bar, concierge, ballroom and meeting rooms; bikes are available free for exploring the hill or riding into the city. Quiet and green despite its proximity to the urban center, the property is well placed for visits to nearby attractions like Zurich Zoo, the FIFA Museum, Kunsthaus Zürich, the Blumenuhr and ETH Zurich. Rated four stars with rooms starting around $220/night, it serves as a peaceful mountain escape with easy access to the city and surrounding nature walks and hikes."

The room was spacious and clean. The views from the hotel are amazing. Shaheen, warm and welcoming and very helpful as well as the young lady on duty on Saturday night. The staff at breakfast were rude especially the lady on duty Saturday and Sunday morning as well as the guy Friday morning. Because of her attitude we skipped breakfast on Saturday. The breakfast menu can be bit more accommodating for the price we paid.

Not at all what I expected after paying 370 CHF for a SUPERIOR room for one night… quite outdated bathroom and the furniture was all over the place. The couch and bathroom door had stains on it. Looked like cum stains. Disgusting!! Overall not very clean and quite dusty. Also the dog “bed” (rather thin and very small blanket) was dirty and so was the bowl for the dog HADN’T BEEN CLEANED!!!! This is disgusting and be quite dangerous for the dog as dog bowls are a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi so need to be cleaned daily and ESPECIALLY if another dog has used it. You never know if that dog was sick or how long it hadn’t been cleaned… absolute NO GO… service at front desk wasn’t very friendly but staff from restaurant were very kind even though it was obvious there was a lack of personell… two people serving a nearly full breakfast restaurant is quite harsh for the staff.

I stayed at this hotel in Zurich in the summer. The place was clean, had a nice view of the greenery, and the breakfast was good. However, I was disappointed that it said it had air conditioning, but there was only a floor fan. The windows didn’t have screens, so we couldn’t keep them open, and since the hotel is next to the forest, there were quite a few insects, especially mosquitoes and moths, coming into the room. What’s surprising is that they still list “air conditioning” among the hotel’s features — I really don’t understand why they’re not being honest with customers about this.

A wonderful old Swiss hotel outside of the centre of the town , near to the famous zoo with excellent service and rooms. The mascot of the hotel is a wooden hall with traditional dishes of swiss kitchen. With a great view of the whole city .

Why you should stay here: We had several nights at the Sorell Hotel Zürichberg. 4 reasons to book here: 1. Great rooms, which seem quiet. 🤫🛌 2. Friendly, happy, welcoming front desk staff. ❤️ 3. Dogs are welcome throughout the hotel. 🐶🦮 4. Really clean and nice room that is well maintained. 🧹🫧 There is a lovely view, the hotel is within walking distance to the Zoo and streetcar. We arrived at the hotel early, and were allowed to check in at 11 am! The only down side is their air conditioning in the rooms, it is a bit of a joke that has a hard time keeping the room cool. 👎🏻❄️

Do NOT BOOK! -> I am a constant traveller with over 15+ trips per year. This is the first time I am reviewing hotel because this is the first time I was deeply dissapointed with it. Working before for a Swiss company I wanted to take my family for a wonderful weekend escape in Zurich. Unfortunately my kids got seriously sick and we couldnt take the trip. We called hotel for a rebooking with option to charge the first night but they refused because of a strict hotel policy. This is the first time in my life this happened to me ( I already rebooked like 30 times) which makes this hotel a unique gem. I can only imagine what other rules there are. This hotel destroyed my family moments and it doesnt deserve a grade above 4.

We were on a quick city trip to Zurich, with much anticipation and excitement. The hotel lies literally on top of the city, above the winter morning fog and the forest right next to it. The location is without a doubt sublime. The staff, in particular a certain gentleman at the reception wasn't at all to our liking. We reserved our stay via phone a month in advance, and wanted to double check a few days upon arrival if our room provides a bath tub. So we called again the reception, only to receive a very unpolite, rather inappropriate tone with no support in order to finally get a room including a bathtub. A day after I called again, a young enthusiastic female voice managed to secure a room including a bath tub, finally. Once we've arrived, the very same man from the phone call greeted us at the reception. As we wanted to experience a proper Swiss winter getaway, we asked for a table of two at the temporary Swiss Chalet for a delicious fondue, only to be dissapointed as they apparently were fully booked. Two hours later, after the man finished his shift, a different receptionist managed to get us a table, on the same evening we had asked previously for. This man is in our eyes not suited for a career in hospitality nor anything that has to do with customer service. I'm surprised they put someone in charge, who's clearly incapable of doing the most simple and basic tasks as a receptionist. On top, some of the older staff members at breakfast or the cleaners were also unpleasant. The cleaners disturbed us twice even though our sign was on "do not disturb". Also, our room was poorly cleaned, as we lifted a chair to change the position of it, we discovered big amounts of dust hiding underneath it. The young employees instead, are all very kind, helpful and enthusiastic. This hotel will survive only thanks to their younger generation. All together, it does not worth the price you pay, it was our first and for sure only occasion here.

Unfortunately, our experience with this hotel was very disappointing. We booked a non-refundable stay but could not attend due to our children being seriously ill. Despite providing a doctor’s note and asking politely for a reschedule or partial refund, the hotel refused to accommodate us in any way. Their staff were unhelpful and unwilling to show any understanding or flexibility. It’s frustrating that even serious, unavoidable circumstances are not considered. I cannot recommend this hotel for anyone who values customer care.
