"El Galeón del Caribe Even though it’s right across the street from top Cancún resorts near the southern end of the Hotel Zone, the entrance to this open-air restaurant remains known only to locals plus a few in-the-know travelers. Walk down the wooden staircase to find a dirt floor, a palapa roof, and tranquil lagoon views, plus affordable Caribbean seafood dishes prepared in an outdoor kitchen. You’ll also get traditional comfort food like ceviche and garlic shrimp, along with a selection of Mexican beers, but the highlight is the hot and fresh pescadillas , shredded fish in pan-fried tortillas."

Nice restaurant right by the water. We got both Fillets. Recommend the Breaded Fillet! We also got the pescadillas--sauce was good and spicy. The fried dessert was also really good!

⸻ I honestly don’t understand all the hype about this place. To sit down here, I had to walk almost 700 meters under the burning sun to the nearest ATM because they only accept cash. Naturally, I had high expectations, but they were not met at all. First of all, all the bathroom doors were wide open, and the smell constantly reached our table. Second, the food was disappointing. The only thing I really enjoyed was the guacamole. My shrimp dish was bitter, and I barely managed to finish it. There was also some kind of soggy tortilla on my plate, and I had no idea what to do with it — it just stayed untouched. My partner also didn’t like the food much; it was edible, but nothing special. The worst part was the mosquitoes. In less than half an hour, I was bitten over 30 times — on my legs, arms, and even through my dress. I asked the waitress for a repellent spray, she promised to bring it “in a minute,” but disappeared and only came back when we were already asking for the bill, saying that unfortunately there was no spray. That was really disappointing, because she could have told us right away. We also had to wait quite a long time for the check, during which I got even more bites. By the end, we were both frustrated and upset. I cannot recommend this restaurant. The food and the service are definitely not worth the hassle of walking to an ATM to withdraw cash. If you do decide to come, make sure to bring your own repellent — even during the day, there are swarms of mosquitoes that will bite nonstop.

Absolutely amazing fish literally caught that day. I had the shrimp ceviche and red snapper. It's a small restaurant that has no signs on front. Unless you know where you're going you would never find it. Sitting right on the lagoon with a beautiful view of the sunset. The price is very reasonable. I will definitely be going back.

Very nice place with good food. Service was ok but our waiter didn’t take the other from all of us and just left, that was strange. You can pay only in cash.

A Hidden Gem by the Lagoon The Caribbean Galleon in Cancún is a charming spot tucked right by the lagoon, offering beautiful views and a relaxed outdoor dining experience that still feels comfortable and welcoming. From start to finish, the service was warm and attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious. We ordered the fried red snapper and fish tacos—both were flavorful, fresh, and perfectly prepared. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and genuinely seemed to care about making our experience enjoyable For the quality of food and the setting, the pricing is very reasonable. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a laid-back yet memorable meal in Cancún. Great food, great vibes, and a view that’s hard to beat

Wonderful hidden gem. Wait staff was extremely friendly and efficient. Food was delicious and fresh. We ordered the fried whole fish and they even let us picked which fish we wanted to eat. The fried fish tacos were good too. Their hot sauce was definitely spicy! Warning: Cash Only!

This might well be the only truly authentic restaurant in or around Cancun. It's NOT built of concrete; it's basically a shack right on the waterside on the other side of the lagoon from downtown Cancun. The kitchen is mega-basic, but the output is good. Only disappointment is that they insist on deep frying fresh fish. "A la plancha" would be so much better.

I’ve never been more perplexed about a restaurant rating and review in my entire life. We chose this restaurant because it was recommended by the hotel that we are staying at first of all. Let me start with the positive day. It’s a very unique location and construction is down below the main road on in the Zona hotel our era in Cancun. It’s right on the lagoon. In fact, I even saw a boat come up and dock and come in the back entrance it was a busy place full of people when we checked in the menu simple it’s it’s fish shrimp it’s basically all seafood and if you want anything else, you’re not gonna be happy here. My fiancé that she doesn’t really like seafood so after looking at the menu, she just can order a fish taco and it came and she wasn’t happy. It was just a look like a crumbled up fish in the bottom of a hard shell taco that was it. I will say the other positive is I ordered the garlic shrimp and they were fantastic Came with some tortillas. Those were really good and then we ordered the guacamole and that was awesome as well. The negatives are the place is right on the on the river on the other side of the main road going into the hotel strip there and it’s on the riverside the lagoon side and it’s the restaurant was overrun with flies. I mean it was they were biting they were diving. We couldn’t keep up so we quickly finished our meal paid our bill and left. I don’t think I’ll go back
