I recently moved out after living in the Buckeye Building on East 4th Street for 7 years, residing on both the 2nd and 5th floors. See the below highlights and lowlights of my experience on East 4th: Pros: Location and Accessibility: Just a 2-5 minute walk to Progressive Field and Rocket Mortgage Field House. Community Feel: The single entrance/exit unintentionally creates a sense of community, with getting to know people in the building via waiting for the elevator or holding the door etc. Most residents are in their 20s-30s, with some families and older residents. Value and Price: Rent is reasonable given the prime location, with predictable yearly increases. Utilities are electric-only and affordable, even during peak HVAC months. The HVAC units are efficient despite the large windows and high ceilings. Amenities are modest but have been recently upgraded, with a newer gym and rooftop area that are shared by multiple buildings. Maintenance Staff: The building is well-maintained, with regular cleaning. Maintenance is responsive, typically addressing issues within 2-3 days, and the staff is friendly and communicative. Con: I have had several occasions where the staff doesn't clean up after work order completion; appliance boxes left, saw dust, walls needing repainted after appliance replacement etc. Cons: Laundry: (Largest Con): One washer/dryer per floor is insufficient for the number of residents, and machines often break down, taking 1-2 weeks to repair. The payment app is clunky and often times out. Including laundry fees in the rent would be an improvement. Elevator: The elevator is old, slow, and often out of service, especially on the weekends. It’s also loud/rickety, which has concerned my guests / parents, and it’s undersized, making it difficult to move large furniture. Parking: The complex offers several garage options, but spaces are tight with narrow column clearance, not recommended for cars larger than a compact SUV. The steep ramps make backing out impossible and causes you to have to turn around between columns, and event nights can cause delays due to valet activity / crowds. - Parking costs around $200 monthly, separate from rent. Weekday-Only Maintenance: Issues occurring over the weekend aren’t addressed until Monday, (unless its an "emergency") which is inconvenient for things like elevator or HVAC issues. Interior Noise: - Thin walls between units and bordering hallways mean you’ll hear neighbors, entry doors slamming, and maintenance staff vacuuming. If you value sleep, especially late night on the weekends, choose a unit that doesn’t have a bedroom next to the hallway if possible. - If noise becomes consistent / reoccurring, suggest reaching out to the property manager who will send out building wide emails or file warnings / noise complaints on residents or units.

Lived here for a year. Do not move here unless you want human feces outside your door on the way to work in the morning, “your local alcoholic” homeless man heckling you every time you get home from work, and spiders and centipedes in your apartment no matter how many times you spray. I also heard gunshots in the alley beside the apartment building last month. Downtown Cleveland is unsafe and the prices you pay to live here are not a fair tradeoff for a dead, crime-ridden downtown and non-updated, antiquated apartment. Also, I asked where the gym was in person twice and by email once when I moved in and all times I was told it’s in one of the nearby buildings and brushed off for further details. They don’t have a gym. If you are a resident at university hospitals or Cleveland Clinic thinking this might be the place, think again. Edit: I forgot to mention the WiFi. You’re required to pay $70 for WiFi through the apartment complex’s website. It constantly cuts out, making it so difficult to watch any streaming services like Netflix. My boyfriend tried to work from home when he visited (while I was busy at work, so only one person trying to use wifi), and every time he had to go to the local cafe (lion heart coffee, definitely recommend) just to get adequate wifi. I gave up and had to fork out more money to buy a hotspot through Verizon. On top of the required $70 for the useless wifi that comes with the apartment.

I’m in the Buckeye Building apartment (called the Arlo) and it’s one of five buildings on the East 4th property, and the constant clear noise from my neighbor’s apartment—from regular conversations, coughing/sneezing, to even pages turning in a book—leaves me feeling like I have no privacy and no peace and quiet. It’s uncomfortable to the point where I avoid phone conversations, knowing I can be overheard. Another inconvenience is the ongoing problems with the shared washing machine on the floor, which seems to be out of order more often than not, forcing me to find another way to do laundry. The parking situation, especially in the Woolworth basement garage, is another hassle—tight awkward spaces, only one lane for entering and exiting, making every trip in and out a stressful event. It’s nearly impossible to get a spot in the smaller Buckeye Building garage, which is connected to the building. Both the people in the leasing office and maintenance crew are very nice and get back to you quickly. Other things worth noting is that package room isn’t in this building, but mail does get delivered here. Also there is no intercom/buzzer to let people up to your apartment, so you have to go down to let them in. Another is there isn’t any guest parking, so they have to pay for parking either on the street or adjacent public lots. While the apartment has high ceilings, with a renovated interior and a great downtown location, these inconveniences take away any enjoyment I wish I would be getting from this space.

Living on East 4th has been an incredible experience! The location is unbeatable—amazing restaurants just steps away, a vibrant atmosphere, and the convenience of being able to walk everywhere. My unit is fully updated and feels like home, and the management team has been nothing short of amazing. If you're looking for the perfect mix of city living and great service, this is the place to be!

I had a wonderful experience moving into my new place. The apartment layout is fantastic and feels so regal. I especially appreciate the My own washer and dryer, a paid gym with a peloton and a beautiful balcony looking over East 4th Street Andres, the apartment manager, deserves a special shout-out! He was professional, efficient, and made the whole process stress-free. So happy with my new home! 5 stars for the apartment and especially for Andres!

NEW Always doing construction inside apartment and are non stop being loud. Do not care about neighbors being loud and somehow have 10 dogs living here when they are not allowed. Block the parking garage and expect you to figure your way around a lift even if you have to be somewhere. Leasing office never answers any complaints, and worse thing is they gave us the wrong move in date. we were on the street waiting to move in and they never answered and they made us pay for a truck to move our stuff twice. It seems good but it is such a pain…. not worth all the hassles.

We’ve lived here since August and have loved our experience here! I truly feel like east 4th is one of the most affordable apartments downtown, especially for all that you get here. While on our apartment search it seemed as if so many other apartments in the area START at $1200+ for a small studio/1 bedroom😅, BUT, not here!, you’ll easily be able to find something that you love for every budget! Plus, the apartments here are HUGE, and many have walk in closets and in unit laundry which is hard to find in my experience downtown that’s affordable . The location is amazing, we love being able to walk right downstairs to go out for food and shopping. Management is easy to get a hold of and maintenance is amazing and takes care of requests promptly. It’s very well maintained too, the apartment inside and out is cleaned everyday After so many awful experiences in other apartments we’re so glad to have finally found one that actually feels like home!

I've been a resident of East 4th on and off since 2019, and it has been one of my favorite places to live and rent, besides the fantastic location. The layouts of the apartments stand out from your usual cookie-cutter apartments. Management and staff also played a tremendous role in the ease of living. I'm sad to leave, but I'm happy to have been a part of it.
