Doc’s Green Door Lounge

Recently , a friend of mine had forwarded to me an article suggesting the best patio experiences in Toronto. If there has ever been a summer in Toronto to find a cool funky patio, this has been it. As my patio beverage of choice is good coffee, one of the first listings that jumped out at me was Docs green door lounge on Dundas in the junction. I have driven past this location probably 50 times in the last year and never noticed the unassuming, camouflaged location slightly to the west of the main junction strip. However, now I found it, I will certainly be returning for both the excellent coffee and the funky, sophisticated diner atmosphere. We are fortunate enough in the West End of Toronto to still have some business locations, which have kept a good part of their original design. When I first entered Doc's it seemed possible that this had in fact in been a original diner. The colour scheme, wood trim, and elegantly curved front windows would suggest it's originality, but if so, it has had a loving and funky redo, which creates an absolutely perfect setting for a great coffee in the junction. I ordered a Cortado and my companion ordered an iced Americano. Doc uses Sam James coffee and the barista crafted our drinks with loving care. They were both absolutely perfect. They were rich, chocolaty and refreshing. We did not end up sitting on the patio due to the heat of the morning. The location of the patio, on the side of the building next to the road, means there is a limited amount the restaurant can do to create seclusion and shade. As a result, this patio lacks the urban oasis feel that other patios in the area achieve with a back patio. However, it is obvious that attention has been paid to provide a maximum of atmosphere here and this patio at cocktail hour would be a true junction experience. As the last review noted, if you lived close to this café, you would be there every day. But if you're just in the area looking for excellent coffee and a very lovingly curated experience in the junction, stop in!!

I visited Docs tonight on a first date and unfortunately had a very uncomfortable experience with one of the bartenders, Callum. The evening was going well until the bill arrived. My date jokingly said, “She’s paying,” and I replied that I was happy to pay for my half. At that point, the bartender dropped the bill beside me and insisted that I should pay the entire check. My date picked up the bill, but the bartender continued to push the issue, repeatedly saying things like, “Why don’t you pay for it?” and encouraging me to cover the whole bill. I explained several times that I was perfectly willing to pay for my drink and my portion. However, he continued to insert himself into what was clearly a private interaction between two guests. It felt inappropriate and uncomfortable for a staff member to repeatedly pressure a guest about how a bill should be handled. The situation escalated further when he began making comments about how “why does he have to pay.” When I pushed back, he asked me why I didn’t have any children. This was an extremely personal and invasive question coming from someone who had had no rapport or meaningful interaction with us all evening. What he could not have known is that I have experienced miscarriages in the past. Being asked something so personal by a bartender in the middle of a payment interaction was deeply upsetting. When I asked for his name, he gave me a fake one and laughed. I have never experienced service staff inserting themselves so aggressively into a guest’s personal situation. What should have been a pleasant first date ended with an uncomfortable and humiliating interaction. Professional hospitality should never involve pressuring guests about payment or asking deeply personal questions about their lives.

Such a cute spot to catch up with friends. Lively enough to avoid awkward silences without being too loud. And the small bites were surprisingly delicious!

Recently had the pleasure of visiting this cocktail bar, and I must say, it's an absolute gem. The ambiance strikes the perfect balance between intimate and inviting, with tasteful decor that adds to the overall experience. The cocktail menu is a journey of flavors, each drink crafted with precision and creativity. Not to be overlooked are the small plates – the perfect accompaniment to their stellar drinks. The brie, in particular, stood out as a favorite for its rich flavor and perfect pairing with the cocktails. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a top-notch cocktail experience in the city.

Doc’s is a comfortable and friendly café & bar with ample seating and lots of delightful details to notice. There’s an outdoor patio, banquette seating and even a small wine bodega/market in the back. I’ve been twice during the day, when they sell pastries, coffee and snacks. Haven’t been at night yet but I’m sure it’s a cozy and funky vibe then too. I love the curved front window (and built-in bench) and the colour scheme. All around great spot. The people who work there are friendly … there’s even a secret little cubby door to the right of the bar - don’t forget to ask what that is if you’re curious!

I visited in the daytime for a latte. Friendly staff, lovely decor. The patio also looks great. I'd love to revisit for a cocktail.

Cool spot but as soon as our first drink orders were completed the servers completely ignored us for the rest of the night. We were looking for some food and additional drinks but ended up leaving when it appeared no one was tending our table.

Doc’s is the kind of place you’re secretly glad you don’t live three minutes from—because if you did, you’d be here every night. It’s that good. A true staple of the Junction, this spot has that rare vibe: effortlessly cool but totally unpretentious, the kind of local watering hole that feels like home the moment you walk in. The cocktails? Unreal. The dirty martini is hands down the best in the city—perfectly balanced and briny in all the right ways. And the negroni? I genuinely need to study it, because the smooth, herbaceous flavor is something else entirely. Bonus points for the hidden bottle shop in the back, just in case you need to take a little of the magic home with you. Doc’s is a forever kind of place.
