Neighborhood gem. Very friendly staff and mostly very helpful. I invented myself as a “plumber “ , they ( Daniel and Antoine) generously took the time to walk me thru all the steps to repair my sink. Now it works!

Work was done thoughtfully and quickly. Went to get some keys copied, and they even matched colors on them without me asking, which was a nice touch!

Its has been the rave of the neighborhood for over 75 years. Weather it's locks, keys or screws, this place has it all. Friendly staff always find a way to help you.

Really outstanding service. This is the kind of local store we should be supporting instead of the big box ones or amazon. They were helpful, KNOWLEDGEABLE and friendly.

0 stars if possible. Rude, unprofessional and comically stupid. Bought 2 door sweeps earlier today and they didn't match. Returned to store to exchange one to match either of the previously purchased sweeps. Bought a new sweep and walked out, walked in again in less than 1 minute because it was similar but not exact match to either. 3 employees accused me of stealing the second one when I just walked out in front of them AFTER paying. Harassed me for almost 20 minutes since the one braincell they shared made them forget how to use their camera system to prove what I was telling them. I asked them to check their cameras multiple times, they couldn't figure how to operate the camera system while still arguing and accusing me of theft. Will NOT be returning there.

Amazing customer service. I needed to use a drill press in order to finish a project. I was not expecting them to let me use their store drill press but they were nice enough to let me. I tipped the man who helped me use and bought some tools that I needed. Would recommend coming here.

I have been going here for about a year now to get copies of my keys, cleaning supplies, hardware for repairs around the apartment, and miscellaneous items for the kitchen and bathroom. Everyone is so helpful and kind. I had just moved into an apartment for the first time when I initially started going to this store, and the staff here was willing to answer all my questions. They offer delivery within the neighbourhood. You can get key copies made very quickly and for cheaper than I have ever seen elsewhere. They sell Bona spray mops, pads and spray bottles, which are my favourite pet-friendly, quick-drying floor cleaning products. I thought that the spray mop I bought from J&M was faulty. I called them just to ask for a copy of my purchase receipt so that I could request Bona for a replacement. The shop owner told me to bring the mop to the store if it was more convenient for me and that they could repair it or give me a new one for free if needed. It was so sweet of them to offer this when I was just going to bother the manufacturer instead and this issue was not even the store's problem.

I had a few packages delivered here. I recently relocated nearby. I was interested to also look at their store & get to know the staff. The young man was very friendly and welcoming. The owner I presume, was very cold and dismissive. It's disappointing because I would rather shop at a mom n pop shop than Home Depot. When you enter this establishment, the owner is the first person who you see. I may come back to shop. I dunno.

They simply do not make em' like this anymore AND especially the owner Neil's wisedom, honesty, kindness and vast knowledge. So ethical and helpful I wanted to clone Neil. I will never go to a big box store again knowing that this gem of a resource is right in my own backyard. We need to shop local.

Friendly helpful and fast is the staff in here . Dan is the man if you ever need anything to do with welding then this is your place .

Needed a last minute, super fast notary and yelped it and this place popped up. I was a bit surprised given it's a hardware store, but I called to confirm! I walked in and was greeting by the owner Neil and he was so fast, friendly, and I would hands down recommend this place to anyone who needed not only a notary, but any hardware or locksmith needs. I would always prefer to support a small, local business and this is exactly that. The reviews here speak for themselves- It's a wonderful one stop shop with everything you need and great service! Searched hardware stores in the area while filming on 19th street. Luckily I walked to my car first and saw j&m across the street. The business was listed only as locksmiths so I didn't see it in search. Tina, the owner, gave exceptional customer service, which is why I always go to yelp in the first place. I updated the category so everyone can find her store! 5 stars.

Love this place! They stock everything you could possibly need in store and have completed several projects for my apartment both promptly and well. Very reliable.

I came in with a weird request for them to help strip my speaker wires for my home theater system. And I think the guy Neil helped me and he was super nice and chill about it. Free of charge, I'd tipped him more if I had more singles on me. Sorry. But I'm very likely to come back here for my hardware needs. Would recommend coming here

Amazing customer service. The closet pole in my 30" closet fell down and I needed a new setup. Home Depot only offered a 72" pole for $30 that they would cut down plus the cost of a socket and screws/anchors. J&M immediately walked me through cutting a 30" pole for only $9 and threw in sockets and non-drill anchors/screws for drywall for a total of only $19. Very quick and friendly service.

Got a couple knives sharpened... was not great. Bevel was tilted towards one side and uneven throughout. The edge also also wasn't smooth. Go to a professional knife sharpener

I can't recommend this place enough. I came in around closing and Dan helped me get a copy of a key that I needed. One of the best customer service experiences I have ever experienced and I so much appreciate Dan staying past closing to help me get a copy of my key. Thank you so much!

This place had Sodastream refills when they were completely sold out elsewhere. (I guess everyone likes sparkling water during a pandemic?) The owner is a tad gruff, but it didn't bother me. Just make sure he sells you the Sodastream brand refill. He carries a generic brand for the same price.

I work in the area and just popped in to get keys copied. The people who work here are friendly + efficient. I was in and out in 5mins. $2 per key.

I've been locked in my apt twice. Fortunately, my super was able to open the door from the hall. J&M came yesterday, on time, took the lock apart. No problem found. Thinks it was debris from inside the door. My charge? $0! That NEVER happens! I'd definitely use them again even though I hope I don't need to.

I needed some Baldwin hardware. The store ordered it and arrived when he said it would. He was extremely helpful and I would gladly go back.

This is my favorite hardware store to visit. Considering there's a Home Depot a few blocks up, that's quite the statement to make. This small neighborhood hardware store is a hidden jewel. When you walk in, you're always greeted by someone at the cash register. Don't be discouraged if you can't find what you're looking for, there's so much more to this store than it seems! Ask someone who works there! They're awesome! Their prices are reasonable, their key making services are above par, and their customer service is all around outstanding. I won't go anywhere else to have my keys made if I'm in the area. Also linger around the back where they make the keys if you want to listen to some killer drum n bass tunes. The guy who works back there is a dnb fan. Always a plus!

Amazing service! They took a genuine interest in my door handle and lock problem and clearly explained how it all works and what my options were. In short, problem solved, thanks to them.

I want to thank Dan Basovitch at J&M hardware for helping my wife with a stool emergency. He helped her find the correct size wood dowel and cut it to length for her and told her how to fix the stool. This is why you have to support the mom and pop hardware stores. It's not about the price as much as it is about the service. You can by a piece of wood anywhere but getting the advise and service it priceless! Dan thanks for your help and you just earned a new customer.

These guys are great. I needed a very specific part to repair my generator. I went to three different Home Depots and they didn't have it, but J&M did. I'll definitely go to J&M first next time!

Went to J&M not knowing what to expect and they were great. The staff was friendly and very helpful and they did not only carry hardware. This is now my new go to store.

Came in here and got a key cut in seconds. Cheap too. Dan, the guy behind the counter, was extremely friendly.

Super easy and quick place to get a document notarized. 1 minute and $2 is all it took. Good option if you don't want to wait in line at a bank or UPS store.

Fabulous store - staff was super knowledgeable and helpful! I know nothing about hardware, and they were friendly and patient. Helped me get exactly what I need, and they offer metal cutting services (which Home Depot down the street did not, and refused to refer me to anywhere that did). They helped me find a solution to a bedframe piece I needed to replicate, and made sure I walked away with the right hardware. Would absolutely recommend - great experience!

Absolutely the most unhelpful people. Some things are a little overpriced, but dammit is courtesy overpriced? When I entered I didn't even get a "Hello", I was never offered help or anything. Cashier just took my products, scanned them and gave me my receipt. Didn't even look into my face, no bag, no "thank you". A girl used to work here that was more helpful than all of the other man together. If you want no help and no courtesy definitely buy here.
