"At this luxury collection of six historic homes—some from the 16th century—guests can book a bedroom or an entire house, all within blocks of Santo Domingo’s most important attractions. You won’t find out which room or home you’ll be staying in until your arrival, but you’re sure to be pleased. Located in the heart of the Zona Colonial, the casas are exquisite. Two were part of former convents, one was a monastery, and another was once the private home of a famous Dominican fashion designer. Each one features unique decor and its own courtyard, and five of the six have private swimming pools. Upon check-in, you’ll receive a loaner iPhone to communicate with your house butler and the round-the-clock concierge team, who can help arrange excursions like culinary tours in the Old City and visits to one of the Caribbean’s largest organic cocoa producers."

Casas del XVI

"This ambitious hospitality project encompasses a cluster of carefully restored colonial residences—most of them dating back to the 16th Century—in the cobblestoned historic district of Santo Domingo, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The hotel made its debut with seven suites occupying two houses, both featuring a clever combination of local antiques, Caribbean artworks, and handcrafted modern pieces. Casas Del XVI (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"First things first, to facilitate the conversation with your taxi driver: XVI means “sixteen,” as you’d guess, and is pronounced “dieciséis,” as you might remember from the first week of Spanish. The number is key to the concept behind the Hotel Casas del XVI, a chic colonial-style hotel located in the historic center of Santo Domingo. Sixteen isn’t the address, or the number of rooms: it’s the century that the hotel evokes and celebrates — the birth of what’s now considered the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement in the Americas." - Tablet Hotels

I have lost count the number of times we have stayed at Casas del XVI and each time was lovely. The staff are very accommodating and welcoming. There is a great selection for breakfast items and all are delicious. We used their car service for the first time on our last trip and could not have been more pleased. They have made us feel like family...we would not stay anywhere else in Santo Domingo!

A charming boutique hotel in the heart of Zona Colonial, Santo Domingo—just steps away from many of the Americas’ most important historic landmarks. The property features beautiful design and the added luxury of a dedicated butler.||Rooms are cozy and equipped with all essential amenities. If you’re looking for exclusivity, comfort, and unbeatable convenience in the center of the colonial district, this is definitely a top choice.

This hotel is listed as a five star hotel. To us, it was more like a 4 star. Very clean. The butlers were very nice, but you notice them because they carry large and loud radios with them throughout your house. It’s very disturbing. Breakfast was included, however they didn’t have eggs for the duration of our stay. At other times, the food was mediocre. The butlers tried their best, but what you ordered and what you received were not always matched. We did our best. We were told the rooms included a private chef. This is completely not true. It is not like you can ask them to “make anything for you”. The chef also is not in your house. He is somewhere in the complex. So, the food isn’t fully hot when served and you often catch other butlers walking through your room with other people’s food. Make sure to either buy or bring bug spray and itch cream because the baby mosquitos on the patio are in full force. It was pretty out there, but not pleasant with the bugs. For a five star place and for the $1500 a night we spent, we were not given fresh wash clothes every day; only on day one. We think this place has a lot of room for potential, but it’s not what it looks like online. We loved the butlers and the private driver. The driver was also very kind (outsourced from the hotel). He stayed with us, waited, and took us wherever we needed to go. The hotel should hang onto him.

This is one of the great hotels of the world. The staff is exceptional. The food is absolutely delicious. The rooms are immaculate. The sheets and towels are at the highest quality. The bath accessories are at the highest quality. The wonderful thing is is that there are multiple courtyards in the historic building with little swimming pools that my eight-year-old daughter will not get out of all day. She swims and swims and swims. I cannot hesitate recommending this hotel to anyone that wants to travel with a family or just as a great getaway, only a few hours from New York george whipple.

We stayed at Casa del 16 for 3 days and had a wonderful experience. The service was excellent, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure a comfortable and relaxing stay. The location is perfect—just a short walk to all the major historical sites in Santo Domingo. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the Colonial Zone!

very comfortable, attention given to us generally was great, just a few times we had to wait a bit for response time, but generally good. appeared short staffed on the Sunday we arrived, but back to expected on Monday when week staff members arrived. would be great for breakfast selection to have more vegan options and artisanal breads- whole grain breads. there is a local bakery nearby where they could source the artisanal loaves. loving staff did find me peanut butter!|i would recommend management take a look at the jacuzzi in the house we stayed- the jets did not seem to work properly.

From the moment we arrived to our last moment there, everything was taken care of. They had little touches that made the arrival and stay all the more special. All the staff was attentive and kind without being intrusive. The property is stunning and we stayed in a small courtyard with a few other private suites with private access to each room. The courtyard was perfect to have breakfast in the morning and enjoy the pool throughout the day. The room was spacious, well appointed and clean. Loved the oversized soaking tub and the bathroom finishes. The location is perfect for enjoying the city. We were able to walk to so many points of interest and restaurants with in minutes. Should we ever find our way back to Santo Domingo we wouldn’t stay anywhere else!
