Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam is architecturally interesting from the very first glance. The integration between the historic brick building and the modern white fiberglass extension creates a bold contrast. The new facade breaks the conventional museum silhouette and gives the building a contemporary identity that feels intentional and confident. The entrance experience is clear and well organized. Inside, the layout feels like a series of rooms converted into gallery spaces. The ground floor has some narrower areas, but it hosts a strong collection of modern and architectural works. I personally appreciated the architectural documentation and design-focused exhibits. Upstairs the experience opens up. The upper level feels more spacious and visually comfortable. The curation flows better and the diversity of the collection becomes more evident. Overall the museum offers a globally relevant selection and is engaging, especially if you are interested in modern art and architectural narratives.

Contemporary Art Museum with interesting modern art from international and Dutch artists. You can see works from the likes of Matisse, van Gogh, Mondriaan, Malevich, Newman, Kandinsky, Chagall, Pollock, de Koning, Lichtenstein, Dumas... Interesting architecture. There's of course a cafe and a gift shop. One star deducted because the staff in the exhibition halls can be a bit rude. I understand they are to protect the works but their tone could be less hostile.

Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam is a big and really interesting museum for contemporary and modern art. We enjoyed walking around and seeing the different exhibitions, the installations are creative, and even the building itself is very pretty and unique. What we also loved is the park right outside the museum. It’s a perfect spot to relax after your visit, and you can even sit down and enjoy a small picnic. A great place to visit if you enjoy modern art and nice architecture, and want to spend a relaxed day around the museum area

A big and interesting contemporary modern art museum in Amsterdam! I think it’s very interesting to see and the installation & building itself is very pretty (although to note i am not a big fan of modern art.. so i only scan and take picture of something interesting) they have 2 floor and a very pretty hall and stairssss 🤍 the blue floor area is pretty to take pictures with! It is located in museumplein so it’s a perfect locationnn and they have comfy cafe in lobby as well! A must visit if you like contemporary modern art but skip it if you’re more into classic art~ kekeke

I visited in February to see the Erwin Olaf photographic exhibition, which was exquisitely curated. The accompanying audio guide was exceptionally compelling—thoughtful, intimate, and deeply human. I left the exhibition moved to tears by the artist’s passion, and by the quiet grief it stirred: a reflection on what has been lost in the world since my memories of growing up in the 1970s and 80s. Beyond this, the Jayden audio guides gently and intelligently lead you through the permanent collections, as well as powerful displays celebrating Black artists, offering context without dilution. Overall, the experience reaffirmed my sense that Dutch culture approaches life—and the arts—with a rare openness and intellectual freedom. This generosity of thought became one of the true highlights of my trip.

A fantastic museum experience! The Stedelijk is modern, spacious, and perfectly organized. I visited specifically for Erwin Olaf’s "Freedom" exhibition and was not disappointed. Pro tip: You can buy tickets at the door or skip the line by booking online.

Very pleasant museum that shows artworks from 1850 to modern day. As someone who is new to art, I would have appreciated some additional information about the shown art styles and an overview somewhere that shows all the sections as a timeline. As it was, it was a bit challenging to keep track of the context. The space is very welcoming and calm.

Excellent. What really stood out for me as a foreign visitor was the way in which design is and has for a ling time been so connected with Dutch culture and life. Highly recommended. Loved the permanent collection.
