The Boatshed is an absolute gem - a hidden boathut paradise overlooking Little Oneroa Bay that instantly makes you slow down and breathe.
Our Boatshed room was idyllic. The quality of the furnishings are exceptional, and it was the little thoughtful details that truly set it apart: a beach bag complete with personalised bucket hats, blue striped towels, SPF, port waiting for the evening, and chef-made biscuits so delicious we couldn’t resist taking them home with us to the UK.
We loved having our own little veranda, opening the shutters onto a shingle area where we could place our deckchairs. It made us reminisce about beach holidays with family - returning from the sea to a beach hut – nostalgic yet effortlessly luxurious.
The service cannot be faulted. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by Jonathan, our suitcases immediately whisked away, and checked in with the most beautiful coconut cake, poached pear, and crème fraîche. Every interaction felt genuinely caring and relaxed.
Breakfast was the best we experienced in our three weeks travelling around New Zealand. Ripe fresh fruit, home-baked bread, homemade cereals, and exceptional warm dishes: folded eggs with balsamic tomatoes (unbelievably good), corn fritters with poached eggs and a light dill and lemon sauce that elevated them far beyond the usual NZ brunch, and crêpes with poached pears. To finish, there were sweet treats like orange and almond cake or coconut and blueberry slice. Simple cooking done exquisitely, delicately, and beautifully presented.
This place truly feels like a home from home - - but with luxury and every need thoughtfully catered for. You instantly relax. We couldn’t be more grateful to Jonathan and his wonderful team for creating somewhere so special. We will be dreaming of our return.
