Google
The food here is delicious. We are vegan, and they have a separate menu that is dedicated to vegan dishes. Granted, I’m sure that these dishes are integrated into the regular menu. Though it’s nice to know without asking questions that they’re vegan. Not 100% sure what we ordered as we all got plates to share, and got them all with fried tofu. Though they were all delicious. Will definitely go back!

Google
Absolutely fantastic vegan Thai food. Every dish ordered was perfection. Nothing was sub par. Such rich flavors. Our new go-to. Vegan items could be labeled more clearly on Uber Eats.

This restaurant is basically for restaurants put into one. The menu is quite extensive. There are many choices. The environment was a bit cold though, but the service was good. My lad na was pretty good but some of the rice noodles that were fried did not have enough wok flavor.

Google
This is one of my favorite places to order from. Every dish I've had has been delicious and the tofu is always perfectly crispy.

Google
Probably the worst Thai my partner and I have ever had. No flavor, tofu wasn't fried as requested, watery sauce, and the eggplant was inedible. Horrible experience.

Google
Absolutely incredible vegan Thai food with gluten free options. I ordered the garlic lover stir fry with fried tofu and the glass noodles with soy curls. Both a 12/10. Delivery was prompt and friendly and my food was still hot! Highly recommend trying them out. Edit: 4 years later and it’s still some of the best vegan and gluten free food in town. The fried cauliflower basil dish with soy curls??? GET OUT OF HERE. It’s so special. The staff is always so kind and I can tell they really care about the food they’re putting out. I appreciate you all existing so much<3 Thank you for being here.

I want so badly to leave a good review but I just cannot. I had tempura and yellow curry that I picked up to take home. The tempura batter is thick and tasteless.. I've never quite had tempura batter like this. And that's too bad because I ordered a lot of it. The veggies inside the batter are fine. The yellow curry order gives you a choice of very mild, all the way up from there. I chose the least amount of spicey- so the most mild. I'm used to spicy foods, but I just felt like having the least amount tonight - it is definitely really spicy.. Furthermore, the potatoes in the yellow curry are really just barely to the point of being cooked enough. I thought for sure when I cut into it that it was going to be raw because it was that hard. The tofu in the curry is fine. The rice that came with the curry is good. Service was friendly, the food was done on time. The restaurant looked very nice. I don't have a problem with any of that.. But because of the poor quality of food I won't be back. Sorry!

Google
Everything I ordered seemed to have frozen vegetable mix in it (peas, carrots, corn, green beans). This included the steamed dumplings and the Singapore noodles, neither of which was very flavorful. The rest of the dining experience was quite nice, but I was very disappointed by the food.

Yelp
Absolutely top-notch vegan Thai food. We were a bit confused upon entering the place. From the outside, the place is called Sweet Basil Thai Cuisine, so we wondered whether we were in the right place. When you look at the menu, the place seems to be an amalgamation of four places -- of which, Basil Vegan Kitchen is a part -- with a shared menu. Interesting. Most things on the menu can be made vegan, and there's a huge selection. You select your choice of protein to come with each dish (vegan options: tofu, tempeh and soycurls), and the spice level. To start, we got the Tom Yum soup with tofu (small size; $7.50). This was as sublime as tom yum coups can be. Wonderful mixture of lime leaf, galangal, and, of course, lemongrass, with adequate sweetness to balance. You get tofu, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, broccoli, and onions (white and green). Awesome. 5/5 Next, we got the House Special Peanut Curry ($16.25) with soycurls, a wonderful peanut-based red curry. It came with tons of veggies, soft and perfectly cooked soycurls, and a delectable sauce -- maybe a tad sweet, but still great. Lovely stuff. 4.5/5 The Pad See Ew ($14.75) with tofu was beautifully done, coming with with perfectly cooked flat wide rice noodles, broccoli, carrots, bean sprouts, and tofu. 5/5 I forget the name of the last dish we got, but it was a Pumpkin Basil Stirfry of some sort, which we got with tofu. This was perhaps the highlight, coming with so much delicious crispy basil. The pumpkin was thinly sliced and not very sweet (which I appreciated). This came with a ton of fresh veggies. Adored this dish. 5/5 We got 2 main dishes 4/5 on the spiciness scale, which was adequate -- I could've done with spicier. Overall, a little pricy, but the quality is top-notch, so it's worth every penny. Great, fast service. Couldn't recommend this place more. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Portland.

Yelp
Basil Vegan Kitchen is one of my most consistent orders when it comes to late-night, vegan-friendly options. I've been ordering from &/or visiting their storefront(s) for over a decade.

Yelp
No one felt like cooking at home on Saturday night, so we ordered from here. We got an order of drunken noodles, Pad See Ew and Khao Soi. That came to $48.65. The portions were standard in size, and the food was less sweet than some Thai places, which were both plusses for us. We, overall though, were not so impressed with the seasoning and found the food a little bit bland--not talking about spice level here, just overall flavoring. The vegetables were also overcooked, with soggy broccoli appearing in two of the dishes. Some of that may be because of delivery, although other restaurants manage to get their vegetables right even with that. We probably won't order from here again, as it's completely adequate but not much more. We almost always order one Pad See Ew, and it serves as a reference point between different restaurants.

Yelp
Great Thai food selections. The pineapple fried rice and cashew is delicious with soy curls. Also Avocado curry x spicy is my fav.

Yelp
We did uber eats and everything with the order was perfect. The taste of the food was so delicious, we had some just hot and some extra hot the spice was right on. Try the pot stickers!!!

Yelp
I wish I could give them 4.5 stars because my gripes are pretty minimal. I love finding amazing vegan food, especially that I can get delivered. We're flexatarian and try to stay more vegan when cooking at home, so it's fantastic to find really good food from restaurants so we can keep to it even more often. We were perfectly happy with the way the food arrived, the prices, and portions. The flavors were amazing and you decide the heat level of just about everything here, which is nice so we can mix it up between the different dishes. One issue we had was the coconut zucchini. There was no trace of coconut. You couldn't see it or taste it, it was just a tempura. Now for me that's fine, but for my partner who doesn't like zucchini it would need that in order for him to maybe like it. So although it was delicious for me it wasn't so much for my partner. There was plenty of fried tofu in every dish, but for me, I would've liked a little more veg in the curries. I like a lot of veggies so it lacked a little there for me, but my partner didn't care at all. I'm guessing because the flavor was so good he could care less. So this place is definitely a go-to for amazing vegan Thai food. Kind of wish I had a reason to go every week just to make my way through the menu!

Yelp
All the food was fresh, vegetables not over or undercoomed. Some dishes were not seasoned enough, lacked flavor, like the singapore noodles which also didn't have enough noodle and too much of everything else. Best was the tom kha, which i would order again. Tried peanut curry, singapore noodles, and som tum.

Yelp
Ordered via Uber eats and it was bland and watery. Not sure how the service is, hears it's good so might go back to try in person.

Yelp
Wonderful vegan Thai spot -- they can handle every allergy request. Food is tasty! Personal favorite is the Tom yum soup

Yelp
Never disappoints with delivering delicious vegan Thai food, reopen late for orders , a great treat

Yelp
Ordered through Uber eats and it arrived within 30 min. The food was hot, fresh, and made correctly. I ordered it hot but the noodles were rip your mouth, stingingly hot. I can generally eat very hot food but this was inedible after a couple bites. Maybe that was my fault for ordering it as such. So beware! Portions were good and included a large white rice with the entree.

Yelp
Wow, its so nice to have this fabulous food and vegan as well..it so supports our great community of health eaters. Love the pot stickers the pumpkin tempers was wonderful.Vegis are fresh and crunchy with lots of flavor and color..so inviting. Try the string beans, they are a must on my take out too. Lots of choices with great sauces ...its hard to choose. In addition to the food, the mango margaritas are to die for!

Yelp
The pumpkin tempura is sooooo goood especially with the spicy plum sauce. I can't wait to try more of the menu.

Yelp
I feel really bad writing this review. I'm just... so disappointed. We've been ordering from here for the last couple months and been happy, but tonight, my Pad See Ew was not vegan and contained egg (and egg shell), despite being ordered from the "vegan kitchen" website not the regular Sweet Basil kitchen. Because this is advertised as a vegan restaurant, this mistake is just not acceptable. If this were simply a regular Thai place accidentally forgetting to make something vegan, I would cut them way more slack. But when the restaurant specifically caters to the vegan market, serving non-vegan food is unforgivable. I figured the kitchens were not actually separate, but hoped that at least real care was being taken. Tonight was my confirmation that this is not actually a vegan kitchen.

Yelp
The besttttt vegan Thai food. Finding good vegan soup is so hard, but I have to force myself not to buy soup from here every day. Every single thing I've tried here tastes good. Plus, they have soy curls for everything. Ugh, I love it. You won't be disappointed

Yelp
I used to have a fave place and it's been replaced with this gem!!! My curry dish with pumpkin and tempeh was fire!! Literally and figuratively!! They have multiple heat options including hotter! I always get hot and omg!! So hot!! I don't dare go hotter. It was even better the next day. The spring rolls were amazing, too! Large and peanut sauce was drinkable. I'll be supporting them here on out!
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
Everything was so delicious! Those fresh rolls and the peanut sauce were out of control good. Also got the pumpkin curry with soy curls, glad I added the black forbidden rice, it was perfectly cooked. For dessert? Mango sticky rice! Yummmmmm! Can't wait to order from them again!

Yelp
The service here is excellent and so is the food. I ordered Pad Thai and it's the freshest I've had. All the flavors were present because the vegetables were cooked perfectly. The green tea was delicious and my green beans were fire so good! Cute outdoor patio as well. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town to visit.

Yelp
Great vegan thai food without having to worry about accidental "meat". we got the yellow curry and Pad Thai, and it was great! We ordered it mild (for the kids) and they didn't complain about "too hot" at all!

Yelp
We ordered takeout for a birthday celebration yesterday and Basil Vegan Kitchen is our new favorite Thai place in Portland. We tried Coconut Vegan Vegetables, Hawaiian Fried Rice, String Beans, Spring Rolls and Steamed Dumplings--all wonderful, but our favorite was the Thai Grilled Eggplant. We will definitely be ordering again.

Sara B.

Yelp
12/10. The food was delivered to me hot and the driver was communicative and friendly. Ordered it extra spicy and gluten free and it couldn't be any better! I love that they offer fresh and fried tofu, soy curls, and tempeh. For sure a new staple in my house.

Rebma D.

Yelp
Probably the most bland and oily Thai food I've ever had. Had a total stomach ache and diarrhea afterwards. Would NEVER go again. Stick to Kati!
