Lucky Coq

Cannot comment on the food because we only had few drinks from the bar and sat upstairs. It was a weekday so it was pretty empty. The place does look like all the years have taken a toll on it's decor with dirty and stained couches. It was very interesting to see a plastic leg 🦵 on the ceiling 🤔. My mate told me this place has been there forever and used to me her party place back in the day. There is a tram right outside the place or you can catch the bus because moving a car is hassle in such areas.

Great spot, Pool Tables are decent, they also have pool comps. $5 pizza deals and happy hour is insanely good. Great DJ stage setup as well.

No particular expectations on a Sunday at 1pm before hitting a much-anticipated gig at Revs - not only were the espresso martinis just the ticket for that time and occasion, they were also well-made and the relaxed vibe in the upstairs open-roof area was spot-on. The bartender made an extra batch to make sure our drinks were full to the brim, which showed attention to detail. There were DJs playing, with time-appropriate music. It was the day after the AFL final and some other patrons did appear to be in mourning, to no fault of the establishment.

$5 are incredibly irresistible and if you go before 7pm on wednesday-friday it’s $6 happy hour! it was very refreshing to stroll down Prahran and not see food that costs an arm and a leg. the atmosphere was great with overall lovely waitstaff of all different vibes and take on good service. the food came out quickly and hot and for $5 was very good! this is a must if you’re looking for a quick, quality, cheap meal.

Not queer friendly! They have a security guard standing by the toilets who denied my non-binary friend access to the toilets. I tried to speak to the bar manager to ask for help, they apologised and agreed that my friend should use any toilet they feel is appropriate and… that’s about it. Head of security came to get involved just to double down that my friend wasn’t allowed to use any of the bathrooms… Not just that they weren’t allowed to use the gendered bathroom that they didn’t agree with, but any of them. Mind you, we weren’t asked to leave the place at all, just denied access to any bathroom

The $5 pizza deal is great — tastes good and really happy with it! 🍕 Unfortunately, there’s no special drink deal on Saturdays. The rooftop dance floor was a bit too sticky (got a bit better after the rain 😅), hopefully that can be improved — no one likes dancing on a sticky floor! The location is great, right on the main street and easy to access. Keen to come back and try more food here.

Pizzas were delicious, took awhile to cook but it was 100% worth the wait! 😋

Bussin venue for a Saturday night out that you won't forget. I love having a groove, drinks, and good times with friends at Lucky Coq. They ate and left no crumbs with this one, and I haven't even tried the $5 pizzas! Overall, lucky coq on chapel really lives up to the name ;)

Good, fun, no thrills spot to grab a drink and a bite to eat, really good spot to catch up with friends at any point in the day. Hey he pizza selection and you have to be really unlucky to miss the happy hour price of just $4 a pizza!! Vegan and gluten free pizzas and pies too!! If you fancy a real a drink I'd recommend the Captain Coq - Captain Morgan Rum, cranberry juice, peach bitters and lime juice for $10!

$4 pizzas. Need I say more? A great place to catch up with friends over a few drinks and cheap eats. Food is pretty good (especially considering the cost) and the upstairs seating area is exactly where you want to be on a nice Melbourne evening. Drinks are good, a must try is the different flavors of vodka on hand (watermelon and blood orange are my faves). Great location, great ambiance, great drinks and fantastic prices. There is literally no reason not to come here.

Came in here last night at 1am. No line and lots of people inside. Crowd is 99% 18-23 yr olds. Music was ok. $10 lychee and pomegranate Ketal one infusions were very good. Lamb pizza was disgusting. Flour, water some old, dry souvlaki meat and a bit of salad. Service was horrendous, long wait to get a drink even though not that many people waiting, extremely rude staff. At least one of which had obviously started drinking many hours before.

This place is in a prime location, right on the corner of High St. and Chapel. The causal passer by may already be aware of it owing to the bouncers who get in the way of pedestrians and make them silent partners in their often crass, sweary banter. Venture inside and you're met with couches, a decent menu (can't attest to the quality of food) and a bar staffed by people who have no problem making you wait, regardless of how busy it isn't. It is usually busy, though. Owing to location rather than quality, Lucky Coq gets pretty rammed, especially on a weekend. There's an upstairs bar, a dance floor and live music, so it ticks a lot of boxes but ultimately it's a bit charmless. There's no reason you'd choose to go back that couldn't also be attributed to every other average bar on the strip.

The lucky coq is a laid back restaurant/ pub that served up all the good things in life - pizza and drinks at ridiculously student friendly prices, even the biggest cheapskate can't complain. With its laid back vibe, comfy couches and an upstairs courtyard area, it's good for lunch onwards until the sun comes up. Its dim lighting and cavernous feel makes it cosy. The fit out isn't fancy, but with pizza in your belly, a few drinks, music and friends, the decor is all forgotten. The vibe is welcoming and there is a range of patrons from loyal locals, stingy students, boozehounds and friends catching up for a drinks. If you don't want an overpriced swanky drink of boutique beers and gourmet pizzas that the surrounding cafes and restaurants offer, the lucky coq is your go to place.

Well, so it's true, there are pubs in Melboure that have dress codes that effectively ban business ware. Well, that suits me just fine because I know who I'm not going to be running into at this place. Okay, it is a little unfortunately that I do have to dress up for work, which effectively means that I can't have a drink here four days out of the week, but I guess I'll get over that. Anyway, I really like this place, especially the truck cab that protrudes from wall, along with all the other weird and strange things that decorate this place. In fact I believe I even found a bike stuck to the roof. They also have a deck on the roof upstairs which means you can enjoy sitting outside without having to deal with those horrid tables out on Chapel Street.

Pizzas are way better than you'd expect for the price (even when 'full price' they are only around $10). Surprisingly good selection. Good place for a relaxed catch up with friends.

The south-side sister of Bimbo's (i do live Northside) that has a pretty similar drinks and food menu. The double story venue is quite popular amongst the locals and tourists alike and the reason why? Because it is a solid venue that offers good drinks, great food and a very chilled atmosphere. Upon entrance you will find some loungey rustic sofas and good background music. If you take a gander upstairs you will find something similar but also a courtyard with a pleasant decor (i love that they have pot plant's going up the wall). A friend and I came here on a sunny afternoon pub crawl and enjoyed some ciders and pizza. The pizza offerings are quite great, a truly diverse range and delicious (just make sure you are here when they are four dollars). As we sat out the back we weren't really happy with the fact that the tables were really dirty and no one came out to clean them whilst we dined / drunk. Apart from that, experience was grand.

This pub on Chapel Street has a lot going for it. One: Very cheap and surprisingly gourmet pizzas starting at $4. Two: There are the top beers on tap (including my favourite, Little Creatures). Three: There is a very cool upstairs courtyard for the smokers and you can eat and drink out there. Four: The music they play is great, especially on a Friday where they play some older tunes and there is plenty of room for a boogie. Five: The couches or booths downstairs are a fantastic idea and extremely comfy (it makes me feel like I never left the house). Six: With all these awesome up sides, it means it attracts a really good crowd of people where I have always been able to chat to others and have a really good time. Lucky Coq is exactly what I want in a pub and am still a little upset at the fact they don't still keep making pizzas till the early hours of the morning. Either way, whoever came up with the decor and makes sure that it's charm isn't lost, should be congratulated. This is one of my favourite places to go out to and is always a winner on those annoying nights where you seem to be walking around trying to find a cool place to go. This pub has a heart, and I'm glad it's still beating strong.

It really is hard to fault Lucky Coq, a lantern lit beer garden outside, dance floor upstairs and yummy pizza kitchen downstairs, this venue caters for customers of any age and any taste in pizza. I have been a long time lover of lucky coq, I think I actually went there for dinner on my very first night of living in the area. Dimly lit and furnished with comfy, soft and velvety couches, Lucky Coq is a South Easten version of the alternative bars and nightlife of Brunswick and Fitzroy. No matter what time of the day or night, you will always find people enjoying what Lucky Coq has to offer. Their selection of $4 Pizza's available during the week are some of the tastiest going around. I also love Lucky Coq on a Saturday night, they have local resident dj's that transform the Pizza place into a funky, fun dancing venue. There is a good variety of beers on tap as well as some very tasty infused vodka's in glass flutes downstairs.

Cheap food and plenty of frog, does it get any better? I think not. The pizzas are popular too.

I could not rave more about Lucky Coq. The slightly more mainstream sibling of Fitzroy's edgy Bimbos, Lucky Coq is always a guaranteed good night out. One of the rare venues that is popular week round, the crowd is generally young, hip, broke and in search of a good time. The mismatched saloon style furniture sets the tone, all red velvets and fringing. Moroccan lanterns and fairy lights make for a magical courtyard dining experience, while inside the sexy dim lighting sets the mood. $4 pizzas mean that getting a table is always a challenge, so be prepared to share. And while you might not expect much in return for a little loose change, these pizzas are some seriously amazing gourmet fare. Some particular favourites are: Agnello- tomato, parmesan, mozzarella, spiced lamb, rocket, pinenuts, sultanas. Aglio Olio- garlic, chilli, olive oil, parsley, parmesan. Zucchine- tomato, mozzarella, zucchini, sundried tomatoes, parmesan Naturally the drinks are a little on the pricey side to make up for the outrageously cheap pizzas but its more than worth it. So don't write Lucky Coq off due to the constant crowds; this is one of Melbourne's best loved night spots for a reason.

Lucky Coq Windsor, Melbourne Aug 21, 2014 Terrible crowd, dirty inside, awful music, dirty toilets, & terrible food. Ordered two pizzas and they came out one and a half hours later. Ridiculous. They were so small and of such poor quality.

The lucky coq says it all in its name. Especially on Saturday/Friday nights. Or maybe it should be the 'trying to get lucky, coq'. The music is pretty awesome and everyone crams onto the dance floor to assess their potential prey. Have a lot of predrinks as the upstairs bar wait could sober you up. If this is not for you maybe a cheap $4 pizza on a couch or in the upstairs beer garden is the way to go. Get there early for seats especially for a rooftop position. If you are on a downstairs couch don't drink too much as you will be going up and down the stairs to the only toilets in the building. On a weekend the toilets are not flash BUT the old school decoupage porn on the walls is awesome. The wine and beer lists are ok but pretty basic but this is definitely a pub aimed/suited to uni students/backpackers/23yr olds on the prowl. Which is pretty fun really.

Oh Lucky Coq. You make me laugh. It's not you, it's me. Please don't get upset - let me explain. If you're looking for a slightly dodgy venue with cheap food and drinks smack bang in the middle of Windsor, this is it! The food is cheap ($4 pizzas!), there are plenty of beers on tap and the decor is like my first sharehouse - lots of band posters and sticky miscellaneous carpet. In other words, it's a good place to head to first for a few drinks and line your stomach inner southside. The thing that makes me snigger is that after a certain time - like 8pm - the people who start pouring in look like Justin Beiber and about 12 years old. I have to fight the urge to shout "does your mother know where you are?!" and this makes me feel tres old. But this is my issue Lukcy Coq, not yours. Having said that, my days of hanging with undergrads are somewhat past me and I tend to make a hasty exit at that point in time and head somewhere more age appropriate for me. So please don't get upset. It's an age thing. You were my utopia in the early 2000s. That was a long time ago. I am moving on so the *next gen* can get to experience the decor and pizza and be patronising 10 years later as well.

$4 pizza from 7pm onwards who can complain with that? I'm a big fan of the Lucky Coq especially when I have people over from interstate. It's a great place to go whether you're just sitting outside in the sun or inside on the couches. Definitely worth a stop by if you're after something that's not pretentious and offers a relaxed atmosphere.

$4 pizza, how on earth could you go wrong? Well the pizzas could be cheap and cruddy...but at Lucky Coq they are as good, if not better, than the $18 pizzas you would get at any other restaurant. Even at their after hours full price (which seems to be almost never) of around the $9-$10 mark, still a bargain. The menu features a good range of vegetarian, meat or seafood toppings and all the ones I have tried have been delicious. It's also a decent bar for a casual hang out with good beer selection and a range of infused vodkas.

Sunday everything only $4! Got the calamari thin crust pizza! Absolutely delicious! Cooked to perfection and extremely cheap! This place is AWESOME!

Lets face it- EVERYONE goes here for the $4 Pizza's. Even if you're not there when there on, you're thinking about the $4 pizza's. One goes there for the $4 Pizza's and then is like "Oh shit, they do drinks here as well." Yeah boy, now they do $4 Hot on the Dogs too! Sheeeit! $4 dog, and $4 pizza? Brother you're on the dime! Anyway i have come here many times since it first opened, for various social settings, contexts, catch up, meetings and all sorts. Music nights, packed nights, PIZZA, but all in the dark bat cave setting. I also went ape crazy banana's on the flavored vodka's at one point. The upstairs rooftop smoker's courtyard is ace too. Pay Mind though, that one has to note the $4 times. I have had Three pizza's in one sitting on may times. Can I have my $4 pizza now?

Love this place and come here often for its $4 dollar pizza's. The crowd is a bit Indie but for $4 pizzas and a range of ciders and beers who cares. Mind you the pizza's are not always $4, today they were $9.50 which is still pretty cheap (not sure what days or times they are cheap). Love the casual nature with a good proportion of the seating areas being couches. Acknowledge it for what it is. Its an old pub with an alternative crowd that offer cheap delicious pizza's with a good range of drinks.

Maybe it's an age thing. Maybe it's a crowd thing. I really don't know, I just know that Lucky Coq isn't MY thing. My wife and I went to attend a colleague's birthday party there. It was packed, loud, impossible to move around, get service at the bar upstairs (too small) and we got tired of having beer spilled on us by people rushing outside to light up -- which COMPLETELY kills the "beer garden" they have. If you're a student and broke, and looking to have a cheap pizza, I hear it's the place to go. If you want to actually enjoy the company of friends, probably the best advice is to go early, well before the "music" kicks in, and get out before the hairspray and gel brigade show up.

The good old Lucky Coq, This is pretty much every travelers/student's best dream. $4 pizza. That is what every recommend this place to me for, and have been numerous times for a nice easy and cheap eat. Decent pizza's, well priced drinks. A cool well laid out interior, Comfy and cosy. Great for big groups of people.

$4 pizza and salads every day and they are great pizzas too! I have tried the zucchini pizza which is my new favourite but I also recommend the prawn. There are heaps of flavours to choose from and also a few vegan ones which is great! The alcohol prices are pretty standard, and the vibe is really chilled (except for Friday's and Saturdays when it becomes a bit of a meat market ) I love lucky coq. Xx

Okay, I think I'm going to go against a lot of Melburnians on this one but Lucky Coq is really starting to lose its appeal. For me, anyway. The popular Chapel Street restaurant and bar - the sister bar to Bimbos on Brunswick Street - has sadly let me down on the last few visits for a number of reasons. Firstly, the venue that is famous for its $4 gourmet pizzas, never seems to be serving them for that price when I'm there!? I know, I know, it's just my bad timing, because realistically, the hours for this special are quite generous (weekdays 12pm-4pm, Mon-Thurs 7-11pm, Fri-Sat 7-9pm and Sunday all day til 11pm). Anyway, not to be too stingy (the regular price for these pizzas are around $8/$9), I still ordered my Gorgonzola pizza but wasn't too thrilled when it came out. The prosciutto was lined over the entire base in huge strips and the gorgonzola was just too overpowering. Overall, it wasn't bad, but with the amount of pubs competing with cheap gourmet pizzas, I think I could easily say I've had better. In fact, I wish I chose the rocket, walnut, prosciutto and bocconcini salad which was on the new menu, because I think that sounds delicious. Food aside, Lucky Coq is also popular as a drinking spot for those starting off their nights - shame their drinks are quite expensive, compared to the countless bars on Chapel Street that serve permanent specials and dirt cheap bevvys. For $8, I received a gin and soda in a small glass, filled with ice. That said, Lucky Coq's delicious range of flavoured vodkas (lychee, peach, apple etc), which you can customise yourself, were worth the extra cash. Lastly, despite the quirky interior - with collectables and antiques plastered on the walls and ceiling, and array of second hand couches - upstairs is always really stuffy. We recently attended on a Saturday afternoon that was quite mild and wet out, and found ourselves overheating and unable to go out into the 'courtyard' type area because of the rain. On a clear night, the outside bit upstairs is actually quite atmospheric with lanterns and dim lighting. The venue is generally filled with alternative hipsters that will compete with you for the couches both inside and out, but if you can manage to secure your own area, Lucky Coq is casual enough for you and your friends to chill before moving on to somewhere more upbeat.

Why wouldn't I like a place with 4 dollars pizzas? And if they're cheap and delicious why wouldn't I rate Lucky Coq with 5 starts? This was the first place that comes to my mind when I was on chapel st and needed cheap good food. Beer is affordable, comparing to other places. They had something called panchos which is a pizza with NACHO on it. Like, what?! Please go there and enjoy the things this place has to offer.

This place is the bomb. You have to stop here. The courtyard is great on a beautiful day. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The pizza is amazing and also you can't beat it at $4 for a full personal pizza. We had the peri peri, Mexican, and prosciutto pizzas. 10/10 would recommend.

My favourite bar/pub in Melbourne! The bar itself is clean with a wide array of drinks and the pizzas are pretty damn good. Best part about this place is the rooftop courtyard, as well as being gorgeous you're able to chat and meet a bunch of people there. Plus, the security guys are actually nice for a change. Nice place to start your night or finish it whether it be a crazy night or a few drinks with friends Lucky Coq is really accommodating.

The environment at the Lucky Cow is great, wide open, so many tables, and so much variety of tables at that! The staff is always friendly, and if there is a line its gone quick. The pizza is almost always $4 (check website for times) and it is awesome pizza, I always just get the Calabrese. The beer selection is quick good, and average priced. I come here almost every Sunday...see you then!

Great pizza my friends ordered the pulled pork burger and said it was great. Low prices made it even better!

I love the Coq!!! Seriously, $4 gourmet pizzas- and the most divine desert pizza you will probably come across! The Lucky Coq generally has a feel-good quality about it thanks to the fact it doesn't take itself too seriously and attracts a diverse, fun clientele. You generally won't wait too long for a drink but you will probably have to wait, elbow people out of the way and share when it comes to the table situation. Upstairs is a really nice outdoor area and I give them props for the bathrooms which are clean and classy. Although this place is large it is still charming and the decor is quirky and cute. You are pretty much guaranteed a fun night here, but be prepared to wait at the door if you rock up after about 10pm.

Lucky Coq is very popular with the average 20 something, inner city crowd, mainly because we Melburnians love a fun relaved bar with cheap food, good drinks and great music. $ 4 gourmet pizzas...... can you go wrong? Now personally, I still love a regular old Aussie pizza from my local piza joint, but as far as an easy and tasty bite at a bar goes, this definitely fits the bill. Try the Salsiccia with sausage, tomato, capsicum, mozzarella, rosemary and oregano, or for something a bit different, the caesr pizza. They have some really fun nights here, so keep an eye on their website for drink deals, special events, and upcoming live shows. Friday nights are fun for a retro music mix, and lots of people will get up for a bit of a boogy. If you'd rather just kick back though, there are plenty of comfy couches to accomodate you!

Without a doubt my favourite place for dinner south of the river... where else can you buy dinner and drinks for two for $20? (Dumplings don't count) Apart from the low price the vibe here is great... lots of couches, dim lighting, pleasant background house music and cool wallpapered toilets. The attendees are typically relaxed hipsters, helped I think by the 'no suits' policy. Great place to meet with friends as well, and Thursday night is usually pretty lively. Like the sister venue Bimbo Deluxe, my tip is the Salmone pizza - and to order 1.5 pizzas per person :-)

This is my go to place when I want to show my friends from out of Melbourne a great bar. The $4 pizzas and awesome range of beer and ciders are always a win. My pick is the mexicoq. It's like a taco pizza, need I say more? The staff are friendly enough, and the general feel of the bar is laid back, but still has that cool Chapel street vibe. Come back later on in the night, and the cool bar has turned into a kicking club. I can't not have a good time at Lucky!

The pizzas you get here for $4 are unbelievable. Better than the rubbish you pay more money for from the countless franchise outlets breeding across our universe. Sure the couches and furniture are aging, and the drinks cost as much as the pizza, but hey, it's Chapel Street right. The pizzas are great. The price is fantastic. What's not to like?

This used to be a regular of mine due to literally living 5 mins away, which with my love of pizza became a very dangerous habit! You can never go wrong with pizza let alone $4 pizza! I don't believe they are the greatest pizza's but again how can you complain for $4? I give them 3 star as I find the friendliness of staff very hit and miss and the drinks prices at times can be outrageous but then other times seem really really cheap? Maybe I am in a food coma too often and am not paying enough attention? Either way still a good cheap eat and laid back atmosphere

came here more for the drinking and dancing side of things, had a really good mixture of crowd, music was awesome! and drinks were reasonable prices , only negative thing i have to say is they definitely need more bar staff as it took quite a while to be served for a drink, other than that, loved it here and will definitely return!

Went here late in the evening after the restaurant had closed for a few drinks upstairs. Loved the decor, cool music, and an awesome outdoor areas. A highlight would be the selection of beers and vodka they had, which was good to see compared the the normal drab stock standard selection you get in most bars. Loved their own flavoured vodka, very tasty. Recommend to others and I will definitely be heading back again, hopefully a bit earlier to try their famous pizza's

This place knows what's up. If you sell pizza for 4 bucks, I'll be here a while. This is a good place to chill outside upstairs and I like how I tend to run into people I may not see otherwise. Great atmosphere for a one on one catch up or a group of friends. The service is always good and there's fun things to look at when you go to have a wee. Cosy couches downstairs are great at lunch time when the place isn't so busy.

Great cheapo pizzas, icy cold beers on tap, dim lighting, outdoor seating, dj's, great crowd, really nice vibe, all of the right ingredients.

I was pleasantly surprised with this place on my second visit...the first was after work and I was politely informed of their no-suits policy...ahem. The decor and feel are great for a Sunday session as is the court yard if it's sunny out.

I thought that every person in Melbourne knew about Lucky Coq, but a small survey I conducted proved otherwise. Lucky Coq is hard to describe. It is a bar with many many mismatched couches, and it is dark on the inside even during the day time. The real reason everyone goes to the Coq though, is for the $4 pizza. Basically, it is amazing. And best of all, it's always "on special" at $4 rather than $10, which is what the menu says. In fact, until recently I didn't know that there were times when it was actually $10- fyi, it's before 7 on a weeknight. The pizza isn't doughy, isn't greasy, and isn't ham and pineapple. This time I had the el greco: haloumi and olives, which surprisingly wasn't too salty. I tried one of my dining companion's pizzas, the melanzana, which was eggplant and marscapone, and was also suitably tasty. You can almost pretend you are in Italy, which is a favourite pastime of mine. Thankfully, $4 pizza and $4 beer is a bit more economical than popping over to Rome every couple of weeks. There's also an outside area upstairs which is nice in summer, but tends to be full of drunk jerks. The best part is that a trip here is usually easy and fuss free, which is always a plus. If you live north/west and don't want to come south of the Yarra, rest assured: you can go to Bimbo's instead on Brunswick St.But, if you live this side of town or feel like and cheap and tasty adventure, pay a visit.

Again: $4 pizzas... Even their 'regular' priced pizzas are cheap. It tastes great, and the combinations are weird and fantastic. I would also highly recommend getting the dessert pizza - marscapone and chocolate *absolute drool*. Always such a relaxed/casual atmosphere but always bustling with young coo-el people. One of my favourite cheap places to go.

Lucky Coq has got to be the coolest pizza place going around. It's so cool most of the people that go there don't even know that it is a pizza place. I think I know pizza better than any other food going around which makes me happy that at Lucky Coq they make a real pizza where less is more, however sometimes more is better so have another beer and get another pizza.

I love catching up with friends at the lucky coq, heaps of seating, friendly staff and cheap, delicious pizza. Cant go wrong :)

Great pizza for 4 dollars (during specific hours) but consistently rude staff, $20 minimum eftpos, and loud music during evenings which makes it's impossible to chat.
