Ginza Sushi Marui

Really disappointing experience. We got sat upstairs where most foreigners were seated while locals were seated downstairs. While I can look past that, our food took upwards of 50 minutes to arrive looking like it was dragged through the mud (see pictures below). On top of that, they surprisingly charged a 500 yen per person that they called a table fee which was in fine print on the menu. Don’t know how they have such a high review. Skip and go to a conveyer belt sushi.

Enjoyed our experience eating here while shopping in Ginza. It's a close walk from the main shopping area, with ample seating on the first and second floors. The service is quick and the sushi was fresh and filling!

If you’re a foreigner - BEWARE! Don’t ignore the bad reviews, and don’t let the good ones fool you. I’m never one to leave a bad review but I had such an awful experience, I simply had to share in the hopes to help even one person avoid this place. It’s a scam. Not only did we wait literally 1 HOUR for our food - even the miso soup (tasted like grass) - but the rolls were prepared atrociously in the sloppiest laziest manner. Forget ordering the mackerel, it tasted sulfuric. Fishy, stinky, tragic. We realized that all foreigners were designated to the upstairs dining room, while locals enjoyed the downstairs. Fair enough, I don’t even care. The part that sent us both over the edge, we get the bill and notice they charged us a ¥500 per person, just for dining. Call it a service fee, a foreigner fee, who knows. They never disclosed this table fee that was in fine print on the menu at any point. Needless to say - they absolutely took advantage of us, bent us over, took us for a ride, and the food was mediocre at best. GO LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE.

The food was good, but it is pretty expensive for what it is. Ginza is an expensive region in general, so that plays into account, but I have had way better/more food in Tokyo for much cheaper. They also charge a table fee which they didn’t mention.

I only found out I’d be in Tokyo two weeks ago, so zero planning, zero reservations. I came across a post from a friend saying this sushi spot near my hotel didn’t require a booking—just line up. So I did… and OMG. The sushi was so good and ridiculously affordable. Like, how is this even legal? 😂 The special set was just 2,500 yen for 16 pieces. Sixteen!! How is that possible?!

Excellent sushi, easily accommodated a shellfish allergy, staff kind and welcoming especially considering our little Japanese. No need to wait or reserve and was able to get a table.

No complain about their lunch menu for what you pay for. The most popular sushi set for 18 pieces only charge you ¥2500, however, include uni, eel, scallop, and fatty tuna. Well enough for a lunch. There are 2 levels at Marui to serve 15 customers at each floor. 15 minutes before their opening hour at 11:30am, about 8 people lined up in front of the entrance. Better to be earlier to line up. Their food quality is not the best but match against for what you pay. Apart from the sushi set, sushi bowl is also popular.

Sat down at muji cafe and decided to go somewhere more local and Japanese. This restaurant came up on Google maps and I can not recommend it more strongly for someone looking for a well priced but authentic sushi/seafood lunch. A generous plate of seafood sushi 2500 yen. Would cost double that easily in Australia. The chef were visible behind the small bar, focused on delivering our quality. A little line forming as we left so come early if you want to eat immediately. Cash only. 5400 yen for the two of us including a small beer each.
