On the Grid : Les Piaules

"Thanks to Les Piaules, you don’t have to stay at your friends tiny flat anymore when you come to Paris. This brand new hostel has rooms from 2 to 8 beds, where everything is designed for your comfort. Along the common room there is a huge bar where you can drink local beer from Montreuil or Oberkampf, Belleville coffee or eat products from neighbouring shops. This room also features arcade games, photo booths and punching bag are one side, and a reading area around a stove on the other. The best of all is definitely the rooftop overlooking all Parisian monuments!" - Hyphen

Where to Stay in Paris (Updated 2025)

"I enjoyed this hostel’s fantastic chimney lounge and rooftop space; the ground-floor bar/restaurant is popular with locals (it’s always a fun time), the rooms are modern and the beds comfy, and it’s one of my favorite hostels in town for meet-ups." - Matthew Kepnes

The 9 Best Hostels in Paris (Updated 2025)

"Located in Belleville in a beautifully renovated Art Deco building, this is my favorite hostel in Paris: it has a fantastic chimney lounge, a rooftop terrace, and a cool bar/restaurant on the ground floor that locals use (I even saw a paint‑and‑drink club there). The rooms are super modern, the beds are comfy, and you can pay extra for a basic (5 EUR) or “badass” (10 EUR) breakfast; it also organizes lots of events, making it one of the best places to meet people." - Matthew Kepnes

It’s located in a really cute area of Paris but you definitely get what you pay for. This was one of the cheapest options I could find for one night in Paris that included storage lockers to secure your items, which is a must in a hostel. However, there’s no mention of the luggage storage being paid. I’ve never had to pay for luggage storage pre check in/post check out but their system only accepts coins. It aould’ve been nice to know ahead of time to prepare. Also, had an experience where I went to my assigned bed after check in (which was a more spacious lower bunk) and found another guest in it and I was the one who had to move rather than housekeeping changing the sheets so I could use my assigned bunk. Every other hostel I’ve stayed at has a policy where if you move to the wrong bunk, you are charged for it. I feel like the staff could’ve handled this better and it really put a bad taste in my mouth. Also, not the cleanest facilities. The bathrooms have a weird odor as if something was rotting. It truly was just a bed to sleep in for the night but Im sure I would’ve been more satisfied with my stay if their policies were more clearly stated on their website. Just be aware. Overall, I did feel safe and secure but I questioned the upkeep of the property just based off things I noticed.

This hostel is absolutely great, with a nice lobby area (including a piano!!!) and clean rooms and bathrooms. Personnel is very helpful and welcoming, we were able to check in about an hour earlier than expected. It is ideally located in the neighbourhood of Belleville. This neighbourhood has a lot of different minorities (mainly Algerian and Chinese), and a great variety of their typical food options for a very cheap price. And it is absolutely delicious !!! You should try their bakeries, sweets and restaurants, definitely worth it.

Great location near by several metro stations, good breakfasts, nice terrace on the roof with a good view (Tour Eiffel!!!). Cleaning rooms every day. It will be useful to have a mirror on the wall in rooms. It will be better if this hostel will make a kitchen for preparing food by myself... But there are a lot of cafes around if you don't like to cook

This review is from the perspective of a private room. This is a “cool” place in a “cool” neighborhood. But it’s very much a hostel experience. As someone in my low 40s, I book private rooms these days because I usually get a hotel room like experience with the community and neighborhood vibe of a hostel. This usually works out well. Not so much here. Very much still felt like a hostel at a hotel price. Requested extra pillows beyond the one per person that came with the room. After a promise to bring them up, they never arrived. Room service just tossed the duvet back on the bed, did not change coffee cups or espresso pods. No cups for water. There was no outlet in the bathroom and the toilet took several flushes to get anything down. The shower had just a curtain and flat floor, leaving water everywhere after every shower, with no floor towel. A light was also out so the bathroom was barely lit. There was one hanger in the room for two people. Several small things, yes, but together this was admittedly not an ideal experience.

Google
actually - an incredible hostel. Good bathrooms; space to hang out outside of your room; social atmos if you want it, but also can be avoided. Nice bed that ISNT a plasticky mattress. good sheets. Only annoying thing is a square pillow? but look this isn’t a wish-granting factory. nothing like coming downstairs in your pyjamas to a bustling karaoke night. Shoutout to yannick, the kindest, chillest hostel receptionist i have met!

My first hostel experience, so I didn't come in with many expectations. I only stayed one night, but truly enjoyed it! The room was slightly dirty and had a smell to it, and the privacy curtain on the bed didn't feel too private as it was pretty short (I could make eye contact with people from the top bunk). Shared bathroom also had a smell and didn't feel the cleanest, but I get that there's a constant flow of people in and out. Regardless, for only 40 euros, can't be mad about it! The staff were incredibly friendly and the lounge had ample space to hangout for hours if you arrived before check in. Loved having a large locker to store my luggage! Breakfast was lovely as well :)

Rare for me to review but such a little gem of a hostel in my favourite neighbourhood. Clean, simple, great location, nice atmosphere and good value for money for Paris. I will be staying again when I visit Paris next.

Pros: Kind and helpful staff, good breakfast, my double room and bathroom was clean and comfortable. Cons: Shower water takes a long time to heat up if it does heat up but that's about the only con having to do with the hostel itself. Location cons: The hostel is just off a moderately busy boulevard. That boulevard was swimming in trash the day I arrived and is also a bit noisy with motorcycle engines when you might be trying to go to sleep. Neither of these points are the hostel's fault of course but good to know before you book. Price is fair though given these issues so I would probably stay again if on a budget.
