The Bird In Hand

Much improved since new ownership. Warm welcome, warm pub. Attentive service. Dining areas much more inviting and inviting. Quality food good real ale . Rack and fish and chips were excellent. Meat orientated. Fairly limited for vegetarians so hopefully they change it every so often. Only negative was bass volume of music which made quiet chat hard. But certainly atmospheric.

We regularly meet here for our lunch catch up (we all used to work together). The Bird in Hand has never let us down. Yesterday the food, wine and company was awesome as ever. The only sad part was our favourite fabulous waitress is moving to Cromer! We will miss her.......good luck my lovely! The ex-Flagship ladies xxx (this photo was taken 4 years ago)

We haven't been for years but my sons 13th birthday and he wanted a good burger! So after some research we booked and we were not disappointed. Both my boys said it was the best burger they had, my husbands steak was one of the best he'd ever had and my fish and chips was great too. Plenty of food we couldn't eat it all. We will definitely be returning.

We come to BIH regularly for dinner and really enjoy the food. We thought we would give it a go for breakfast. Wow, what an amazing experience. The food is as good as the dinner service. Fresh produce and excellent service. Good coffee and good food 🍳🥓 ☕️ We will certainly be coming back. I was in two minds whether to write this review or not as I don’t want others to know about this hidden gem of a breakfast place! Hidden in the sense that I don’t think many people know they serve breakfast. Compliments to the chef - 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I've been here a couple of times for family meals and the food is divine, I don't think we've had a single item between us that hasn't been delicious. We were sad to see menus change after enjoying the last so much, but found lots of things we'd all enjoy when we read the new one. The service speed has been quite different depending on the day we've been here, but I wouldn't say we had any unreasonable wait times. I think 'hiddem gem' is a bit cliché but I can't think of a better descriptor! We have not stayed in the rooms here, so I can't review on that.

The Bird in Hand is in quite a rural, quiet location. Staff are really friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and very clean. Food is very tasty. Menu could do with a lighter choice but that is my only criticism. Edit 8th Feb 2026. Upon arriving home, and having settled my bill prior to departure, I found I was charged again. I expected my card details to be removed from the booking system when I settled. This is the reason I altered my service to 2 stars. A disappointing turn of events after such a pleasant weekend.

We stumbled on this little jem following a bit of a disastrous day of travelling. Although we hadn’t booked and they were light on staff due to it being between Christmas and new year, they accommodated us, although advised there would be a 30 min wait. Nevertheless we were shown to a table and our drinks order was taken. Our food order was taken less than 15 mins later so nothing like the wait we were expecting. The food was really good pub fair and the portions very generous. We will definitely be going again, although given its popularity we will be sure to book.

I had a superb Sunday Roast dinner. |Such a great serving I had to leave two roast potatoes so full. We'll worth the money.|Gary and his kitchen staff superb.|The waitresses are so attentive to your needs. |I will return most definitely .x
