"Dubai: the Way it Used to Be One of the cheapest tickets in Dubai is to the museum. At AED 1 when I visited (about .30 cents USD), the museum is a fantastic display of the short history of Dubai . From a pearl diving town, the City has grown in the last 30-40 years into a multinational metropolis where imaginations run wild and dreams are seen to reality. This museum, full of life-sized wax mannequins, allows visitors to wander through a day in the life of many different people and nearly interact with society. This photo was taken of a ship builder. Blue tones, mirrors, and a bit of air conditioning from the hot outdoors, allow guests to feel like they are in the ocean scene; wandering around a shipyard, and watching the latest catch being brought in. If you are interested in any bit of culture and history of Dubai, this small museum will be an unexpected way to walk through time."

What to Do in Old Dubai: Our Guide

"Once home to a monarch and an arsenal of artillery, Al Fahidi Fort became the site of the Dubai Museum when the U.A.E. was established in 1971. The collection primarily consists of artifacts like pottery and weapons, but the sea wing offers perspective into the ocean's role in the city's development, from its shipbuilding heritage to a history of pearl-diving in the Gulf." - Dylan Essertier, Laura Ratliff

The Dubai Museum is a really interesting place to visit. It gives you a clear look at the city’s history, from traditional life to how Dubai grew into the modern place it is today. The displays are easy to understand, and the walkthrough areas make you feel like you’re stepping back in time. It’s a good spot for families, students, or anyone who wants to learn more about the UAE. The visit doesn’t take too long, but you leave feeling like you actually learned something. Definitely worth checking out.

The Dubai Museum is one of the oldest museums in the city, housed in the Al Fahidi Fort, which dates back to 1787. The museum provides an immersive experience, showcasing Dubai’s transformation from a small fishing and pearl diving village to a bustling modern metropolis. Exhibits The museum features life-size dioramas that depict everyday life in Dubai before the discovery of oil. Visitors can explore various galleries that recreate scenes from traditional Arab houses, mosques, souks, date farms, and the desert. The exhibits also include artifacts from the third millennium BC, offering a deep dive into the region’s ancient history. Highlights Al Fahidi Fort: The fort itself is a significant historical landmark, providing a picturesque backdrop for the museum. Cultural Displays: The museum’s dioramas and galleries vividly bring to life the traditional ways of living, making it an educational experience for all ages. Interactive Exhibits: Some sections of the museum are interactive, allowing visitors to engage more deeply with the exhibits. Visitor Experience The museum is well-organized and easy to navigate, with informative plaques in multiple languages. It’s a great place for families, history enthusiasts, and anyone interested in understanding Dubai’s roots. The entry fee is very affordable, making it accessible to a wide range of visitors. Tips for Visitors Timing: Visit early in the day to avoid crowds and enjoy a more relaxed experience. Guided Tours: Consider taking a guided tour to gain deeper insights into the exhibits and the history of Dubai. Photography: Don’t forget your camera, as the fort and the exhibits provide excellent photo opportunities. The Dubai Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in the history and culture of Dubai. It offers a unique and enriching experience that contrasts sharply with the city’s modern attractions. Whether you’re a tourist or a resident, the museum provides a valuable perspective on Dubai’s past and its journey to the present.

Would have loved to go here but it was closed and not sure when it will re open. Looks very nice and we can only wait what the leadership of this museum turns it into during its grand reopening. Hope to visit this in the future if it is nice!

This is a nice museum, looks like is small but it has a lot of rooms and information. A fort converted into a museum. Getting to explore Dubai history at such a nominal price is absolutely worth mentioning. Very nice and detailed display of the history and heritage of Dubai as it grew from a small village to be one of the best cities of the world. Even children would find it quite interesting. Also, there are parking facilities available nearby. It shows how the people used to live and that most of them were fisherman. Also walk around Dubai museum to get a feel of the old Dubai and its spice markets!! We loved it. If you visit Dubai, Is a good option to know more about of the history of the country. At the end it has a Souvenirs store where you can buy any kind of stuff from Dubai. Is a good recommendation to visit. Below is a picture that is in the entrance of a boat they used.

Very very interesting location with very old items, It is worth to visit to see how this country evolve from the scratch where there is no basic natural resources available as to other Asian countries - even though they have full of all kind of resources but failed to utilize them to take the country to the next level for 100 of years till now. Lets learn from others and find a way to take the first step to develop our countries for our next generation at least.
