"Hopkins Bay Resort is located on the beach right near the town of Hopkins; accommodations include one-, two-, and three-bedroom beach houses. Local art and polished mahogany furniture signal that this is no cookie-cutter chain hotel. The spacious houses are perfect for families or small groups traveling together. Resort activities include dance and music performances that reflect the traditions of the local Garifuna people, descendants of Africans brought to the New World as slaves. Staff can also arrange excursions to numerous cultural and historic attractions, not only in and around Hopkins, but also to iconic sites such as Xunantunich, a Maya site, and the Blue Hole, one of the world's most popular destinations for scuba diving."

There’s really nothing better than waking up to palm trees and the ocean every morning. We absolutely loved our stay here at Hopkins Bay. The room was big and spacious. The food and drinks PHENOMENAL!! Plus the service even better! The resort offers amazing excursions that make your vacation the perfect mix of relaxing and adventure. I highly recommend staying here! Can’t wait to come back!

This is nothing against the resort: **Bring bug spray. Look up the right spray for bare skin and for the spray for clothes. We were eaten alive by No-see-ums.** Now, the resort: a fantastic place about a 2 hour drive from Belize City. The grounds were well maintained. The staff was great. There are two main restaurants with good quality food: one, on-site and another really close to the resort (Embers). Two great pools. Great beach. Great excursion to the Thatch Caye. Take a walk into the town - fun little places like a Nice Cream treat!

This resort is not well maintained. The air conditioning did not work and they never really fixed it, just brought a fan. The area is loaded with sand fleas and they don't spray or adequately rake the sand. You need full Deet bug spray to keep them off your skin and the bug bites are very itchy and last for weeks. The hotel shop does not have the correct bug spray for purchase. The locks on the villa did not work and all of the furniture was worn. Golf cart rental is expensive and if you want more than 2 hours you have to go into town to fill it with gas. There is no taxis, ubers or transportation off of the resort to eat out and the surrounding town is very questionable as to safety at night to bike into town. Security at the resort next to this property is constantly patrolling the beach at night and the bushes. I do not recommend this area to stay in as it feels unsafe and you are stuck at the resort. The Rum Shack food was good and the service was great but if you want to go anywhere else the options are not good.

Our stay at Hopkins Bay was absolutely breathtaking from start to finish. The resort is stunning — every view looks like a postcard, and the beach is pure serenity. The entire staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and cared for. Everyone we met was genuinely kind, friendly, and full of warmth that made our trip unforgettable. A special shout-out to Veronica, Joseph, Chaves, and all the amazing staff who made every moment so special — from an incredible massage experience to the delicious food and a perfect day relaxing by the beach and pool, everything was seamless and full of heart. Hopkins Bay isn’t just a beautiful place — it’s the people who make it magical. We’re leaving with full hearts and memories we’ll treasure forever. ❤️ Can't wait to be back !

I would not stay here again. On my first night, $200 cash was stolen from my room. And apparently I wasnt the only one. When I told the front desk their response was “well where was it.” It was in a zipped suitcase. They made it to be my fault since it was not in the safe, which I was unaware the room had. They told me that the manager would speak to me the next day. That did not happen. Once I found the safe in the room all valuables went in it. I hung the do not disturb for the remainder of my trip but staff or someone continued to access my room. When I brought that to the front desks attention they asked me where I hung the sign. On the front door seemed logical to me but apparently was not correct. (Just like your key does not work in the front door or any of the main doors, slider off the back of the bedroom) At that time I made it clear that I wanted no one else in the room. The manager did eventually come and speak with me on my last day at the resort. I had waited for him till midday when they texted me he was behind schedule. I made it clear I was not going to wait in my room for him all day while Im on vacation. When we were able to meet, he apologized for the situation and said I was not the only one. I think that was supposed to comfort me but did not. He said it was common with their 1099 staff. He did comp all room charges and said the rest of my meals would be on the resort. I appreciated the gesture, however the staff at the restaurant made it very uncomfortable. I had a very hard time ordering and was given incorrect/cold/raw food. Additionally, couldnt get a drink to save my life once they had been informed. Also, it still left me in the hole. I understand he did his best but clearly does not have the support of his team. Hopkins is a cute village and belize is a beautiful country. Ill be back but I wont stay here.

Just got back from a 5 night stay here. We had a great time. The resort is beautiful, with well manicured and landscaped grounds, a clean beach, 2 pools, lots of shade umbrellas, and helpful staff. Our group had the bottom floor (2 bedrooms) of building #13. The rooms were clean and large. The large front porch with comfortable chairs was used every morning to sip coffee, watch the ocean, and listen to the birds. There was plenty of storage in the bedrooms and bathrooms. The kitchen has a full sized fridge, gas oven/range, microwave, and dishwasher. (I didn't see any dishwasher detergent though.) There is a drip coffee maker, and they provided ground coffee, sugar, and small containers of creamer in the fridge. There is also a large bottled water dispenser, so no need to buy water before you come. There was a very limited selection of pots and pans, and a bare minimum of silverware and glasses, for those that think they might want to cook. The TV had access to Netflix. The AC worked great.||There is a separate room on the top floor, which can be accessed from outside, or from inside if you've booked the "3 room" package. They do not get the front big porch but do have a small upstairs porch on the back of the building. We had upstairs neighbors move in on day 3 and I can just say that the tile floors make everything very loud. We could definitely tell when they were moving around.||The restaurant onsite, the Rhum Shack, was quite good, but with a limited menu. I wouldn't want to rely on it exclusively all week, but HBR is very close to town with many options for dining. ||There are free bikes you can use, and they offer golf cart rentals from a local business at a reasonable price from by the hour to several days. It is a 3-ish mile walk down to the far end of Hopkins/hotel row, so we made good use of the golf cart. If you rent bikes, and go out for dinner, keep in mind the sun goes down early and it is a dark ride back to the resort, the last part on a dirt road.||The resort is one of just a few on the north side of Hopkins. The town is a bit gritty, in a legit local Caribbean way, with lots of personality. The locals were very friendly, the food great, and we felt very safe the whole time. Most of the resorts and hotels are a bit out of town south of the town proper. That area feels very much more tourist-centric, glossier with a bit of a bougie vibe.||My only quibble with the entire stay was the offered excursions. We did a snorkel tour, priced at $270/person, described in the info given to us (before the trip and the day we checked in) as 5 hours, 2 locations, lunch included. There is a dive tour with the same description, at $300/person. What actually happened was that we had 1 diver and 6 people snorkeling, on the same tour. We were brought by boat to a sister property at Thatch Caye to get what gear we all needed. We asked for wetsuits but were told only divers get wetsuits. Then we all got back on the boat and the snorkelers were dropped off in a shallow-ish area. The boat then left with the diver and divemaster to go further out. Imagine my surprise when the snorkel guide pulled on a long sleeve wetsuit. It was rainy and overcast and after an hour of snorkeling, most of us were extremely cold. We had to swim to a nearby island to meet the boat and diver, then have an enforced hour plus break for the diver where we were offered cold drinks and cookies. We were so cold by the end of the break that several of us considered not getting back in the water. We ultimately decided the water was warmer than the wind, and did another hour long snorkel (the boat taking the diver again somewhere else) before being picked up by the boat and brought back to Thatch Caye for lunch. We were then informed that we had 2 hours to "enjoy the beach" before we could leave because the boat that brought us had already left to go pick up Thatch Caye hotel guests and would be back at 3:00. So now we're wet, cold, and have nowhere to go. We paid close to the same cost as the diver for significantly less gear (and were not given wetsuits when we did ask), and did not have a boat anywhere near us during the swim which seems a safety concern. Our 5 hour excursion was actually 8 hours, with no heads up that we might want to bring dry clothes to change into. I do see that the tour length is updated on their website now, but the info we were given on paper 6 days ago did not reflect that. The snorkeling was very good, but I will find another provider if I ever go again.||The next day our husbands had an all day fishing excursion also arranged by the resort. The boat never showed. HBR did refund us the pre-paid cost, and offered a free half day of fishing the next day, but we decided we'd had enough and the guys found a different boat/guide on their own. ||Bottom line, I would stay at the resort again, but would find my own excursions.

Good vibes all around. Michelle always brought her smile and fun to our mornings while Chravis poured in our drinks. & gotta hand it to the chef for the dinners. I’d stay here again and recommend it to a friend! Everything was clean, pool was great and beach time was wonderful. I even loved the conc shell shower they had beside the pool. tip: wear both sunscreen AND repellent at the beach if you go during “sand fly season” (think mosquitoes but by/on sand)
