Thielska Galleriet

This was a lovely surprise. Truly magnificent villa with a lovely view over the sea canal and it was full of great artwork. It’s nice that most of it is of a local origin - so no big shots and queue to see it. This is quiet, hidden almost, and very pleasing. And a bonus on top. They have a great cafe inside with really lovely food and cakes on daily offer.

Really a place worth the travel, in this neo eclectic villa inspired by Wiener secessionsgebäude and designed by architect Broberg you can see the art collection of Ernest Thiel in its context. It features work of Munch, Zorn, Meunier, Larsson, Liljefors and many others. One of the artistic highlights of Stockholm.

An old mansion with history turned into an art gallery. They hold permanent and temporary exhibitions. It's a beautiful spot. It got very busy around 13:00 to 14:00.

Unbelievable private collection of art in splendid mansion. Highly recommended, especially during summer. And don’t miss perfect lunch place in the garden not far away from water.

A delightful gallery featuring Nordic artists. The building itself was a private home designed to contain the owner's art collection. The café on the premises is absolutely fantastic and they serve the best meatballs in Stockholm.

The gallery is the home of Thiel who collected a lot of paintings and works of art at the start of XX century. It is very interesting if you want to know something about the artists of Sweden and the paintings are amazing but it a pity because there are no explanations I English, so it is difficult to understand something for a tourist. Luckily also the staff is very friendly and they can give you informations.

A pearl of a museum. Got there from the city on boat line 80 and enjoyed waalklinker there in the “countryside” It is a small museum with an amazing art collection.m presented in an old home. Certainly a top Stockholm site not worth missing.

I called in here mid day mid week, it's has big airy rooms, and smaller more intimate spaces with an eclectic collection of art work. I liked the balance of paintings and sculptures, the different room settings added something to the gallery too. The eating area, is spacious however the place where you pick up your food can get congested very easily if there are more than half a dozen people queuing. Food was nice, good portion sizes. The gardens have some interesting pieces in them too! Will definitely call again.

I came for the Jugendstil and Munch, stayed for Nietzsche's death mask. Just kidding, I came for that, too. I love this gallery, and the Munch collection is out of this world. They even have one of the six iterations of Munch's renowned painting, The Sick Child, depicting his sister Sophie's final moments before she succumbed to Tuberculosis. The massive piece of Jugendstil furniture in the room that features Munch's painting of Nietzsche is indescribably moving.

A few days ago,I visited the Thielska Gallery of Art.It has an awesome collection of Nordic Art from the late 19th and 20th Centuries.Painters very well represented include Edvard Munch(Norwegian)("Frederick Nietzsche")("Oak Tree"),Anders Zorn("In the Studio").Vilhelm Hammershoi("Portrait of Five")(Danish),Carl Larsson("Nude Lady Writing Postcard"),Bruno Lilijjfors("Flying Eiders"),Prince Eugene("Short Cut"),Karl Nordstrom("Midsummer Fire In Poor Weather"),and French Painter Edouard Viullard.This fine art museum is off the beaten path in Djurgarden Park,but is well serviced by #69 bus from the center of Stockholm.I appreciated the cozy atmosphere of the Thiel Gallery and the helpfulness of the staff,considering my limited Swedish vocabulary.Tack.
