Angelucci 20th Century

We purchased a vintage Wink chair from Angelucci. As part of the purchase Angelucci were paid to make a new cover for the chair. The process took several months, and when the chair finally arrived, as you can see from the photos, the cover does not fit, looking constantly dishevelled. We reported the issue immediately but 2 months later we have had no contact and no attempt has been made to compensate us or rectify the cover which is not fit for purpose. Update: It has now been 5 months and we have never had any contact from Angelucci to discuss the shoddly workmanship of the cover. After delivering the chair with a messy, defective cover that obviously does not fit, they ghosted us. We decided to try to resell the chair online. Because the cover they made looks so bad, we also used a photo that had been emailed to us by the person who recommended we buy the chair sight unseen (never again will I buy anything sight unseen). Our house is currently a construction site, the chair is in storage so we could not take new photos of the chair without the defective cover made by Angellucci. While they never bothered to return any of my calls or emails, Angelucci immediately reached out to the resale platform, claiming copyright of the image and forcing us to take it down. Update: Response to the Owner's reply: It is noteworthy that this is the first correspondence I have had from you, almost a year after my original post, but mere weeks after google informed me that this review has had 2,000 views. There are, unsurprisingly, several factual errors in your response. 1) I sent several emails re. defective chair cover. No reply. The google review was my last resort. 2) While the fabric may have taken a few weeks to arrive from overseas, our designer informed us several times that the prolonged delay on your end due was due you to having lost a workman. We purchased the chair in March of 2024 and received it in Dec. 2024. Our renovation did not begin until February 2025. There was no delay on our end due to renovation; that statement is entirely false. 3) As anyone with eyes can see from the attached photos, the cover looks nothing like the Moma slip cover (on which our designer based her template). 4) It speaks volumes that we have never been able to sell the chair with this defective slipcover. Even after dropping the price by more than half of what we paid, we cannot sell it. When our renovations are complete we will attempt to sell without the defective cover. But because you were so petty as to claim copyright over the only photographs we had of the original plain white chair, we are stuck with it until we can get it out of storage.

June2024: high end quality, with mid to high range prices

I've always loved walking past this store and admired the terracotta kitchenware. I finally had a need for a new roasting tray and walked in, selected the one I wanted to buy, and proceeded to the counter. I don't believe I even received a 'hi' or 'how you today'... or that said, even a 'happy new year' given the timing of the year from either guys. The only comment was 'you should soak this for 3 hours before you use it'. Not a friendly bunch of people... I won't be buying anything else from this shop. There are much more customer orientated stores - ie. Modern Times, down the road that will be getting my business moving forward.

My partner and I have extensively looked at mid century furniture shops in Sydney and on a visit to Melbourne we're lucky enough to come by Angelucci. Dean was knowledgeable and very approachable. He sourced the chairs and table combination we were after and had them restored beautifully and delivered with care to us in Sydney, we wouldn't hesitate to return to his shop.

The Saturday shop man is the rudest I have encountered. Did not even acknowledge my existence and was very rude when I asked some questions about a lovely sideboard. I ended up not buying (even though I was keen) as he put me off so much.

Beautifully restored oak and teak Danish furniture from the 60s. Feels like you've travelled back in time when mass production and replicas are not yet in trend. Best extension dining tables, seamless and timeless design.

Beautiful furniture in a showroom that is pleasant to browse; staff were very efficient in organising delivery of my order.

Fitzroy has so many furniture shops, so it's easy to spend a couple of hours poking around them all and finding nice things for your home. They range from ramshackle junk shops to over-the-top high end show rooms. Angelucci sits somewhere in the middle, and that suits me just fine. The furniture here is sourced form all over the world so there's influences from a number of countries and eras, but mostly it all fits neatly in to the "midcentury minimalist" style bracket. We had been on the hunt for a glass front cabinet to store an extensive ceramic collection and couldn't find exactly what we were after. That was until one evening we were walking home from having a glass of wine on Gertrude Street and a grand cabinet from inside the Angelucci window caught our eye. We both said "that's the one!" and visited the next day to see if it was in our price bracket. Angelucci prices their furniture fairly and we were lucky to be visiting during a sale time when there was a few hundred dollars off our item. Including a two-man delivery (absolutely necessary due to the size) we paid $2100 for a teak 1930's Dutch Colonial cabinet made in Java. The team here are super friendly and worked hard to fit in with our moving schedule so we could have the cabinet delivered when we were available. Pro tip: Join their mailing list to get alerts about upcoming shipments.

Angelucci is like stepping into a time warp - sleek wooden chairs, minimalist wood side tables and retro lamps are just some of the treasures you'll find inside. Most of the stock is sourced from Europe, in particular France and Denmark and you can't help but believe that maybe the set designers for Mad Men once visited Smith Street and blew their budget here. The atmosphere here is more like a show room than an antique store, I guess the only place to compare it with would be the Smith Street Bazaar further down the strip. The Smith Street Bazaar has a quirky charm and a sense of chance as you wander through the warehouse, whereas Angelucci is more organized and set out - and while the products are still beautiful, I think it could do with a little more character. The service is very helpful and laid back, Angelucci is a place where you can relax and just waste time looking at beautiful furniture.
