Vieil Ouchy

I absolutely loved Vieil Ouchy. Charming restaurant, full of atmosphere. Local diners; delicious Swiss / French cuisine and polite, gracious service. I started with the escargot, followed by an absolutely superb dish of fresh grilled perch, caught that day in Lake Geneva. I finished the meal with a delicious apple tart. All in all, Vieil Ouchy was a complete delight….

I would like to give a very high score for the food. My friends and I went to the restaurant for fondue and we had a pleasant, yet odd experience. It was the second time visiting the restaurant for most of us, so we all had certain expectations: it is a small place and obviously not the most fancy restaurant, but we still expected decent service. We were seated right away, but the waiter was consistently rude from the moment we sat down until the moment we paid. He did not try to help us at all. For example, when we ordered wine, he brought us the wrong bottle and told us, “We are not allowed to exchange it.” Since most of us speak French and have experience working in gastronomy, we know that exchanges are possible and that it was simply a communication mistake. Instead of handling it calmly, he became rude toward us, which we found quite strange. He then continued to “play” with us, even though it was clear we were not happy with his attitude. At one point, he looked at one of my friends and gestured for her to smile, which we found very unnecessary. He later came up to the same friend and forcefully set her glass down on the table simply because she was holding it in her hand. There was a table behind us having a birthday celebration. It was sweet that they were celebrating, but because of that, neither their table nor ours received any service or attention. It wasn’t the fault of the birthday table, the waiter simply focused entirely on them. For instance, he went to their table at least three times to sing the birthday song, and he started playing a “game” with them for at least 5–10 minutes while we were waiting for the bill. I eventually had to ask for his name, and only then did someone come to check if everything was okay. I won’t mention his name here, but overall, it was just an odd experience.

We were booked as a party of 16 and everything was absolutely amazing!! We sat upstairs next to another large party and the atmosphere was brilliant. The staff were funny, polite, efficient and even theatrical as one waiter spun another a full pint glass without spilling a drop! The fondue was the best I’ve ever had and the wine list is extensive, we were even given a round of limoncello on the house! It felt like a true Swiss dining experience and I really hope to return one day!

We went there for dinner and ordered fondue. We got the classic one and the mustard one, both of them very tasty, especially the latter. The place is nice and cozy inside with typical decotarions. It also offers few tables outside and it's very close to the lake. Overall nice experience and for sure one of the best fondue we had in Lausanne. Special mention to the fact that they treated my celiac disease with care: fondue was served only with potatoes and they payed attention to cross contamination. Moreover, we managed to get also a gluten free dessert.

We had a great dining experience at this restaurant. Especially cheese fondue is simply amazing. It’s a must try definitely. There was rain when we got there so we went inside. The interior is cosy but a bit dark. But at the end, I recommend this restaurant

It's a hidden gem that guarantees a delightful dining experience for the whole family.

Great service by the staff and they even got us a table for 2 put together quickly on a busy night. Fondue was amazing as well as the views of Lake Geneva.

The perch with lemon sauce was so good, and the fondue was great too. The location by Lake Geneva is beautiful. Highly recommend!

My daughter and I wanted to try fondue in Switzerland so she found this restaurant on trip advisor. I also checked out reviews on Yelp. The restaurant is by the wharf with gorgeous views of the mountains. No one was dining inside but it was so windy outside several times that glasses blew off tables and shattered. Kind of scary. There were a few language problems with our server Pablo, but he did a good job. We ordered green and mixed salads for appetizers. They were great. Then we ordered cheese fondue with bread and potatoes. I liked the potatoes much better. It was getting cool after dark so we didn't stay for dessert. They had pie and ice cream on the menu. I didn't see chocolate. Oh, well.

We were so hopeful about this restaurant because of all the great reviews. We had the house cordon Bleu and it was pretty bland. Also had one of roastis that was just mediocre as well. Not accommodating manager as we asked for a better table that we're readily available. Hope your experience is better than ours. I will post pics.

Tourists coming through. I decided to take my mom and aunt here due to the proximity to our hotel and rainy evening. We did not have rsvp and the restaurant was packed. They were able to accommodate us. My aunt has a little difficulty walking but able to go up their tiny stairs to second floor. One of the waiters speaks English fairly well. There's an English language menu available. Food were all delicious. They were busy so we waited a bit for our check after we were done with our meal. Overall we were all happy with dinner. I think this is a thing as we waited at other restaurants in Lausanne as well. Must try if you're by the water in ouchy!

Get there before sunset and claim outdoor seating. The beef tar tar is amazing and of course any fondue. I'd you are wondering if the quinoa salad is good- it's phenomenal

Aloha, we went here on our recent Paris / Switzerland trip. It's a very unique dinning experience! Food was very good and it's in a 500+ old building. We plan to visit again on our next trip!!!

Lovely evening in Lausanne. Inside is quite lovely although the weather was beautiful outside too. Food was wonderful and the service excellent !

Café du Vieil Ouchy was our little introduction to Swiss dining near Lac Léman. I didn't plan on leaving Switzerland without experiencing fondue. What better way to do this than in a café across from the reflection of the Alps on beautiful Lake Geneva? (My review comes a year late. I didn't realize this had been sitting in my drafts for a while. But, here I am, finally completing it.) We started with a planchette valaisanne and some local wine. Then, we shared a fondue moitié-moitié that was divine. We spent hours enjoying our food and our conversation, nothing like we've ever done living back in the US. I'm so happy I got to experience this in Lausanne. Thank you for this, Le Vieil Ouchy!

Great food & service. The waiter explained clearly the menu (already with a smile on his face); even the manager came to us.

If you're a tourist and do not speak French, I would NOT recommend this place. The food itself was mediocre (smoked salmon was fine, steak was horrible) but what really made this an overall terrible experience was our extremely rude waiter. Although he spoke English, at no point did he make us feel welcome and was clearly saying something negative about us to the locals sitting adjacent to our table. He was very unprofessional and the overall experience was generally sketchy and made my parents and I feel uneasy. For example, although he said all the right words when serving us, his demeanor was completely different with the other two tables he served; something I noticed several times throughout the dinner despite not understanding French. That being said, I'd imagine this overall type of negative experience is not uncommon and doesn't typically prompt me to write a review. However, the beef served to my father gave him food poisoning and to me, that's crossing the line.

This was a gem. First the service was incredible. We wanted aSwiss food experience so we took all the suggestions from our server and Wow, delicious. We had the original cheese fondue and hand made cordon blue!!!a bonus was how incredible this building was , 400 years old and they kept it perfectly.

We are staying at Chateau de Ouchy and this restaurant is right across the street. We showed up around 7:45pm without reservations and waited only 15 min for a table. The service was prompt and very friendly. We ordered the cheese fondue (moitié moitié) and it was really delicious. You can also order wine by the glass for reasonable prices. This place is worth a visit for sure!

little small place across from chateau de Ouchy. we waited for about 10 minutes on a table and had the fondue. the food and wine here is excellent. we drank a bottle while we waited on food, and ended up drinking 2 ( should have got water, it is a bit cheaper). all in all it was a very good place to dine

Firs of all- very nice lcation. The view on Geneva lake and the mountains - amaizing! Waiters really know their job - make you feel special. And the food-sooooo delicious. The price - well, according to place, service and food.
