My housemate introduced me to this little store called Happy Valley a few years back as he got me a hip hop vinyl I was struggling to find. I thought I would come check it out for myself and it has been both the best and worst decision I have ever made. Best decision simply being that he had shown me the best record store in Melbourne. Worst because I can't stop buying vinyls 😅 Chris and the gang at Happy Valley have always gone above and beyond and always manage to have a stellar selection: from hip hop to soundtracks, electronic to classics. Always love popping in every few weeks for a new addition to the collection and to say g'day to the wonderful crew. Couldn't recommend anywhere else :)

Warning to anyone looking to buy vinyl from Happy Valley. I would recommend other stores. Purchased an expensive record here which arrived very warped. The staff acknowledged that it was very warped but could not exchange as per policy. I have never experienced this before there are a lot of great record stores that will refund or exchange warped records. This policy isn't obvious when deciding to shop here so want to provide this warning to anyone considering shipping here.

I have ordered vinyl records several times from Happy Valley and the service has always been exceptional. Always dispatching on the same day if I placed an order early in the morning! They have even consolidated orders I had for store collection with some that I had for delivery (some pre-orders that happen to come on the same day). Communication has always been super quick and helpful and have been happy to resolve any doubts I've had with some pre-orders. Amazing service and records have always arrived perfectly safe and carefully packaged :)

I found happy valley last year in April when I was looking to photography Naarm record stores for a VCE media folio! I visited the store and was met by pleasant and welcoming staff. I was able to photograph the store stress free! Since April 2025 I have been back many times and have profusely recommended happy valley to friends and family! The stores wide range of vinyl and books are really interesting! I’ve made multiple vinyl purchases and can 100% recommend the store, no faults from my opinion!

Happy Valley has very quickly become one of my favourite shops in Australia to order from. They deliver quickly, I never have any issues, and more importantly their range is so good! Recently got a Pale Jay, and Surprise Chef limited colour press from them, which made me extra happy. The only other store I go to is my local shop that I can literally walk into, but their range is not nearly as good as HV.

Bought record sleeves and a vinyl from happy Valley vinyls, and they did not dissapoint. The price was affordable and they don't overcharge you like other stores may and they shipped out within about 3 days of purchase. This is an amazing store to purchase from and I would highly recommend buying anything music related from here. (Im definitely going to come back and buy some more in the future).

This is THE record store, especially for online purchases. The prices are crazy reasonable for an independent store, they have an unbelievably great catalog of records, with online stock alerts for the rare ones, all in amazing condition and well taken care of (unlike a certain big tech store franchise), and they ship their records amazingly packaged. 100% recommend buying from here over other places.

Gift shopping anyone? Spare yourself some time and just come straight here. Very easy for stocking stuffer type presents that aren't cheap and nasty. I want to call it a kind of hipster book shop. There's loads of books and quirky/cool gifts at Happy Valley. My friend and I got caught up smelling all of the golden skull candles...I am not really a candle fan and ordinarily I think giving them as gifts is laaaame - but these ones are awesome and smell very different to ones I've come across elsewhere. If you're over Hallmark, there's lots of unique cards for your weirder or pop-culture obsessed friends. Actually any of the gifts here would work for friends in those categories. Plenty of useful stuff, but nothing too serious. I'm a fan.

Happy Valley is a great little book and gift store on Smith St. Their selection is smaller than dedicated book stores but it's well curated and it compliments the types of gifts they have available. They stock a number of interesting greeting cards, some (all?) of which are made locally. Gifts that you'll find in the store include prints, "gourmet" skin care products, wooden bow-ties, beautiful candles, and much more. It's worth taking a browse even if you're not necessarily looking to buy something. Although be warned, you may not walk out empty handed.

I love this kooky store. From hand knitted cactus "plants" and locally crafted jewellery to terrariums and brightly coloured leather handbags this is my kind of store for gift buying. It's big and bright and the soundtrack is always interesting. I often pop in to listen to the tunes and browse and never get the evil eye from staff when I walk out empty handed. Probably because they sense that I'm the kind of person that returns for birthday gifts, mother's day presents and those times when I need a little pick-me-up of the hipster magazine persuasion.
