Sigiria - Karura Forest

Compared to the Limuru Gate entrance, this location offers a much more serene and quiet experience. The area is less busy with minimal traffic in and out of the forest, making it safer and more relaxing. It is family-friendly, with fewer cyclists, and also pet-friendly provided dogs are kept on a leash. Additionally, the presence of horse trails adds a unique touch to the experience.

Karura Forest Sigiria Gate is less crowded than the main entrances, making it perfect for a quiet walk or run. It’s conveniently located next to a nice café and playgrounds, so you can relax with a coffee while the kids play. A great little escape in the city!

Karura Forest is a hidden ecological gem within the sprawling urban jungle metropolis of Nairobi. Please allow yourself a minimum of 8 hours to sample most of the natural wonders contained in this park. Consider renting a bicycle 🚲 because the distances are significantly greater than you realize. Scope out an itinerary with Google maps and your cellphone's GPS in advance to minimize the chances of becoming totally lost and disorientated while navigating the park's labyrinth of trails 👣! Gates A, B, and C are circuitously connected; so take extra time to ensure that you locate the appropriate trail to return back to the proper exit gate to ultimately find your vehicle!!!🫣

I love how peaceful Karura Forest is! The soldiers at the gate are friendly and welcoming such a wonderful experience to have in my own country. It feels very safe; I enjoyed a lovely walk with my friend and later relaxed while reading a book. My only wish is that the foreigners’ entry fee wasn’t so high, as lowering it could encourage more visitors and boost our economy. Other than that, I absolutely love Karura any day!

- Perfect for taking walks, numbered trails and just serene - Can be chilly, so dress accordingly - There’s a parking lot if you go with your personal car Downside, there’s deforestation happening in some parts of the forest which is sad

It's always lovely to have a very good quality walk and feel the warmth of nature at Karura. Nothing can ever go wrong since it is nature. It is energising, refreshing, amazing, and beautiful. Full wellness pack!

What a great way to start the day. Fresh air. Wildlife. 5km and 10km routes. Dog park - off leash. The rangers should be strategically placed for emergencies.
