"Top of Sant Jeroni(mo!) I broke off from my friends in Barcelona to go on a solo excursion to Montserrat, a short one hour train ride from the city. I wasn't sure what to except but had only heard that it was beautiful with weird rock formations and good trails so knew that I needed to make it before my week in Barcelona was up. This view is proof that I made the right decision. After a fairly strenuous 2 hour hike to Sant Jeroni peak (1,236m), you are rewarded with a 360° view of the green Catalan countryside and the distant Pyrenees. It is absolutely breathtaking and a must-do for the adventure-hearted visiting Barcelona for 3 or more days. One bit of advice would be to get to Montserrat by 9am so that you can descend in time to watch the world renowned boys choir perform in the Basilica of Montserrat at 1pm (something that I wish I had known)."

This place is amazing! It's hidden till you are right in front of it, but then... a spectacular view right from the picnic/dinner table outside. The guards are very friendly, an incredible source of information about the Montserrat mountain and (above all) great cooks! Dinner and breakfast with a spectacular view. Water is scarce (especially in summer), but that's mother nature and nothing to complaint about. With a bit of luck, you'll see the mountain goats in the evening or morning around the hut. A magical place on a magical mountain!

This refuge is definitely not easy to get to, but it's worth it. Might seem a bit expensive for the services it provides, but taking into account where it's located and how hard it is to bring any materials and supplies in that place, it makes sense. The man who takes care of the place was very friendly and helpful. It has two rows of beds (20 in total), a shower and a toilet (they use rainwater, so should be used sparingly). A blanket and a pillow is provided. Food can be ordered from a kitchen.
