Gallery Diet

Excellent art shows with great taste

It smells like a Subway sandwich in here. Do not comment on how the gallery smells like a Subway sandwich. IT IS NOT AN OLFACTORY GALLERY. It just smells this way.

Ummm.... perhaps I bumped my head and can't remember seeing all the lovely paintings and sculptures Hmmm... I don't remember bumping my head though; and I don't remember seeing art here Ooooh... that was the sound I made when I saw the Diet lights outside.... but the excitement ended rather quickly Walk through the front door to WHITE wall WHITE floors WHITE ceiling WHITE columns WHITE EVERYTHING and not a subtle white either... it was bright and would have been absolutely perfect had there been some sort of exhibition going on Four very large walls and one piece on each wall and nothing mind blowing. Granted there were a couple pieces in a very small quarter beyond the main floor. If they didn't have anything to display or if they are in between exhibitions, then take a pass and close during second saturday. If the goal was simplicity, then the goal failed for me. But then again, art is subjective FORMERLY KNOWN AS GALLERY DIET (AND RELOCATED TO LITTLE HAITI)

After the gluttonous buffet of galleries on Second Saturday, one has to go on a Diet..Gallery Diet. Since I started doing Wynwood Gallery Walk this has been the place with the funkiest mix of sculpture and my absolute favorite art - video installations. The sign is outside is pretty cool too!

I may be partial... I love the owner! Nina Johnson opened this place in November of 2007. Gallery Diet has been a hotbed of cultural excitement ever since. Their openings are always fun, the staff is always informed and educated, and many of the artists are around to talk to. Don't be afraid of the neighborhood. Looks can be deceiving. Give this gallery a try, get on the mailing list or e-mail list and check it out. You won't regret it. And, if you are lucky enough to meet Nina, tell her Jessica sent you... she'll probably laugh.

Gallery diet is super small. A completely white room, and when I visited the gallery it was burlap sack art. I was not a fan. Wall to wall, everything is white from ceiling to floor. I began feeling as if i was stuck in an insane asylum which reminded me of the last scene from the movie Psycho... Creepy. I wouldn't waste my time here when there are so many better galleries in the area.

Some pretty decent exhibits sometimes. One of the more popular galleries on the block.

This is a good gallery, for Miami. The front room had some elegant furniture pieces with glass and mirror tops resting on rounded zigzag legs. The smaller back room had a group show of works on paper and small objects that included pieces from the furniture designer as well as like-minded artists. Separating the two shows kept the works in the back from looking like props in an interior-design magazine shoot, which was a wise move.

The owner Nina has such a great eye. I always love to see what she has presented. A must see destination when in Wynwood.

I would give 0 stars if I could. Awful customer service, too much attitude. I was there with a service dog , and the owner? or the person in charge? Asked me to hold my service dog I asked her what was her name and her option was not to provide it to me . Does she know it is ilegal to ask that to any service Dog? Will Go somewhere else, she doesn't deserve my business.
