We specifically travelled to the store to purchase a coat priced at €890, as it was the only one available in store for one particular size. Before completing the purchase, we informed the staff multiple times that we required the VAT refund, as we were entitled to approximately €105 back. For us, this is a significant amount, especially considering the euro is about 4.6 times our local currency.
Despite clearly explaining this, the staff repeatedly reassured us that the process was simple and told us to keep our passport details ready and upload the receipt through the app. We trusted their guidance.
Unfortunately, we later discovered at the custom counter when we were leaving the country that our purchase had not been properly validated. As a result, we were unable to claim our VAT refund. This situation is extremely frustrating and disappointing, as we had made our requirements very clear from the beginning and relied entirely on the staff’s instructions.
To all other international visitors who are entitled to a VAT refund, I would strongly advise you to follow up closely with the store and ensure that your purchase has been properly validated. Do not rely solely on verbal reassurance and make sure to double check that everything has been processed correctly to avoid losing a substantial amount of money.
