"With its relatively low skyline, Amsterdam doesn’t have many rooftop bars; this one, seven stories up on peak of the Volkshotel, offers a panoramic look at the city from both its spacious, windowed interior and its generously sized terrace. By day, it’s a quiet spot for breakfast and lunch; come early evening, it shifts into lively post-work-cocktail mode, with young Amsterdammers flocking here for the excellent sunset views and affordable drinks. On Fridays and Saturdays from 11 p.m. until the wee hours, the space transforms into a throbbing nightclub, with DJs spinning a mix of house and disco."

8 Best Clubs in Amsterdam | Condé Nast Traveler

"On the top floor of the ultra-trendy Volkshotel, which once housed the Volkskrant newspaper, this chilled-out bar/restaurant morphs into an offbeat club on weekends, when crowds tend to spill out onto the romantic roof terrace. The basement houses another great club, DOKA, where you can continue the party once Canvas clears out." - Clodagh Kinsella

Google
Great rooftop bar, the view is amazing from here. They have beer pitcher, cocktails and even tho I didn't try the main dishes they looked good. We spent the afternoon with a great sunset and chill music. They have DJ on Saturdays from 20:00

Absolutely loved the vibe. Its a restaurant/bar on a rooftop of a hotel. We went for dinner (that by the way was really tasty) and then drinks on the terrace. We tried to make a reservation but it was full, we decided to give it a try anyway and had no problem getting a table as soon as we got there, even though it was a Saturday evening. Great views, great place, great music. The only thing why I don’t give 5 starts is because the service was really slow (but the staff were kind).

Google
Pretty surreal location. Great for drinks, but even better for a lunch or breakfast! Can get pretty busy in the evenings, but throughout the day stays mostly empty. Service is really chill, coffee is great, view speaks for itself, and prices are reasonable. Honestly can’t recommend enough

Google
Hidden spot, love the food and terrace. Terrace is first come-first serve, no booking available. I liked that place so much, that I spent my birthday there, they let me bring balloons, which is a very nice gesture :) staff is friendly.

I normally just come for drinks and it’s one of my favorite places. It’s good for a small group or a date (for a larger group you might need to get lucky to find a table). Everyone loves a rooftop with a view. Take someone here who has never been and they will be impressed. It has an outdoor terrace as well which is great to have the indoor/outdoor options. It can be quite loud, almost annoyingly where having a conversation is difficult. It also can be busy on weekends and I’m not always sure I will find a place when I show up but I usually do.

The restaurant has improved quite much since the past 6 months. The food is quite varied and savory, the service is attentive, and the cocktails are quite creative and are some of the best ones I’ve had in Amsterdam. Additionally, the place has a great view of the south and east part of the city, which makes for a beautiful atmosphere. As for recommendations here is what I would encourage you to try: 1. The Japanese Gin Fizz is out of this world and my all time favorite. 2. The bitterballen are delicious and are made with good quality ingredients. 3. The roast beef bread was so fresh and the flavor combination adds so much to the dish, however I do have to say that I prefer the bread to be warm. 5. The roasted pumpkin salad is quite refreshing, nevertheless I do think that it tastes better if some salt is added and it would perhaps be more savory with some balsamic or honey as dressing. 6. The white chocolate cheesecake is the only way to properly finish off the meal as it is creamy and savory. As a final note, I do have to mention that the service attention decreases as lunch hours are ending so I would recommend you to consider going before 15:30 for attentive and quick service. Nevertheless, there is always personnel around that can help you with anything you need.

Google
I love this place, especially in summer or whenever you can sit outside. It’s such a beautiful spot with an amazing view of the whole city of Amsterdam. PS: we got the coolest dj in town

Google
Lunch til 4 and dinner starts at 5. Indoor and outdoor dining with views from almost anywhere you sit. We have had bitterballen from 3 different places the past 2 days and this was our favorite so far. I recommend the bread with veal, smoked ham Mayo, and dried capers. The cheese soufflés and chili sauce were better than expected. And of course, the cocktails were great.

Yelp
Pretty good food, good drink list and full bar, and fantastic views! The views alone are enough reason to go. We shared a few small plates and the white chocolate cheesecake was so smooth and good. Perfect. I liked everything we had. The pumpkin coconut soup could have used a little more salt but that is my American overly-salted-food preference. I was really full by the end of the meal! Service was great. Server's name was Amir.

Yelp
Here on business staying at the hotel. Came for dinner. It was a busy night so I sat at the bar. The bartender was super nice and friendly. I only have three stars mostly because food is just okay. Had the burrata app. Kind of bland and should be served with some greens or something. Then had the beet feta and risotto. It was basically one big beet dish. Everything red/purple. The beets just overpowered the whole dish. I like the outside viewing areas. Nice place to chill

Yelp
Great views, from the terrace of this restaurant. It is a hotel and restaurant in an old building that used to be a newspaper printing company. The hotel it is boutique hotel and it is very nice. On the top of the hotel are traditional wooden buckets used to take a bath and hotel customers can go there sit in the tub and admire amazing views of Amsterdam. The service was a little slow and they were confused when we moved inside since it was a little chili outside. I have tried the duck here and it was prepared very nice. The burgers looked great here as well. So if you want the views of Amsterdam for lunch this is the place for you.

Yelp
At the rooftop of a hotel in East Amsterdam is Canvas, a daytime restaurant that turns into a club at night. With lots of indoor and outdoor seating, gorgeous views of the city can be seen either through the numerous windows inside or standing on the terrace overlooking Amsterdam. My friend and I came for drinks around dinnertime and ordered gin and tonics, which were served quickly. Prices were higher than at other cocktail bars, but the rooftop premium was well worth it. Despite how busy the place was, the ambiance and environment fully allowed for fun, idle conversation with friends.

Yelp
I love (!!) this place! Went here with two friends on a warm Friday evening a couple of weeks ago. It was a bit crowded so we had to fight for a spot on the roof terrace which has amazing views. They have a good selection of cocktails and the menu looks great. A lot of things you wouldn't necessarily expect like a starter with wild boar, Thai pancakes or marshmallow goat cheese. We selected a couple of starters to share as we were not really hungry and this was a great way to try multiple things. The only negative thing I can think of is not having enough waiters (as it was very busy). I'm definitely coming back here. (I see they just changed their menu so I'm definitely going!)

Yelp
Ordered the steak, it was 70% gristle, had to keep pulling solid chunks of it out of my mouth. Ordered a side of potatoes, which were uncooked and solid in the middle. Service was very slow, when I politely complained, the lady was nonchalant about it and offered me a free beer, but wouldn't do anything else, despite them clearly selling substandard food. Considering 20% of my food was edible, yet I still had to pay for all of it, I'm very unhappy. I wouldn't come back here if you paid me to. Avoid!

Yelp
Atmosphere really nice, lovely view, nice lights, lounge and reggae music. The Cheesecake cocktail- waiter said it will be sweet, but it was extremely sour and I cannot stand sour cocktails. Mojito was awesome. Cuban feel. Nice.

Yelp
We went for lunch today and to get some drinks and some burgers it took almost 90 minutes and the place wasn't even that busy. There were a lot of people sitting there but barely any orders besides some cool drinks. When the burgers finally arrived I was not impressed, the bun was stale and I would have had a better burger patty at Burger King... very unimpressed considering how long we had to wait. The only redeeming factor is the fries were crunchy... So yeah sure the view of the city is fairly amazing and the open deck is wonderful on a sunny day but if you are thinking of grabbing a quick bite to eat/drink forget about it.

Yelp
It is the renewed Canvas bar on the top of the building. 4 stars for the terrace and the view over the city but not for the food and service. It is very average bar food, which is good when you drink fresh beer. The service is very much on the slow and sloppy side. It is strange because there are a lot of waiters and waitresses but for some reason they barely pay you attention... so grab them when you can and place as much orders as you can :)

Yelp
What a view! Come for a drink just to check out how gorgeous Amsterdam is from above. Although they have a larger and less traditional menu than other bars, the menu isn't particularly interesting. We couldn't find much that sounded appetizing. The gin and tonics were good (as they should be for 10 euros each). But... Did I mention the views?!

Yelp
There aren't a lot of rooftop terraces in Amsterdam so this is a great option for a sunny day. The staff is very friendly. Although they did not have any vegan options on the menu the chef was more than happy to prepare me a delicious vegan bulgur salad.

Yelp
Good place to go for dinner and a few drinks. Has a beautiful skyline and in good weather would have a gorgeous view

Yelp
The food is good here, but the staff pays zero attention to patrons as they are way more interested in socializing with each other than customer service. Just walked in, sat down for 15 mins waiting for someone to at least say hi and bring a menu over, it wasn't even busy. Walked right out with out any of the 5+ people working there giving a crap. Wake up, pay attention, do your job.

Yelp
Please save your money and your taste buds. Extremely small portions of tasteless food. No one really enjoyed their meal and the service was the slowest of all the nice restaurants we dined at in Amsterdam.
