Old Town Scottsdale

This was a bit out from where our BnB was but we decided to drive out for the evening to hang out with my bf's family and to do some shopping after dinner. Beautiful area and loved seeing all the lights and cute shops! Didn't buy anything but it was still very cool to see small business owners selling unique things. They have a cute fountain in the middle and we got lucky with parking (3 hr max). They had some newer/modern shops that may be familiar to most people but they also had a bunch of mom and pop shops which we gravitated more towards. Great for tourists and picking up souvenirs. For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed visiting Old Town Scottsdale. I remember participating in scavenger hunts, going on bar crawls, attending special events, visiting restaurants and stores, joining gallery hops, and taking part in wine and art festivals. On the north side of Old Town Scottsdale (west of Scottsdale Road) is the Scottsdale Waterfront and the Scottsdale Fashion Square. On the south side of Old Town Scottsdale is a residential area or hospital depending on what side of Scottsdale Road you are on. I used to live in a condo on the south side of Old Town, and I enjoyed walking to Old Town Scottsdale. Some of my favorite places to visit continue to be the Poisoned Pen (book store of mysteries and other books), the Sugar Bowl (ice cream and other treats), and the Scottsdale Civic Center Library and Scottsdale Center for the Arts just outside (great festival and special event location). There are some great events on the horizon from Spring Training games and movie nights, farmers markets, public art displays and galleries, and the Parada del Sol parade and rodeo. There is also some great history all around from statues of Winfield Scott (namesake of Scottsdale), the Little Red Schoolhouse, and more! It is also helpful to understand that there are many districts making up Old Town Scottsdale: Arts District (south of Indian School and west of Scottsdale Road), Brown & Stetson District (between Scottsdale and Drinkwater, north of Indian School), Civic Center Park (just east of Historic Old Town), Entertainment District (Camelback to 6th Avenue, east of Scottsdale Road), 5th Avenue Shopping District (much of the area north of Indian School and west of Scottsdale Road), Scottsdale Fashion Square (area between 68th Street and Scottsdale Road mostly around Camelback), and the Waterfront & Southbridge District (area just south of Scottsdale Fashion Square between Goldwater and Scottsdale Road). WESTERN MARKETPLACE w/ SOLID SOUVENIRS! So, maybe I was expecting something else, but Old Town Scottsdale is more of a specialty marketplace for hats, antiques, souvenirs, and candy. I enjoyed the western architecture and shaded areas, but I would've liked more history and eateries. I thought there was going to be a historical site or something. The information booth folks seemed a little oblivious and gave me "winging it" vibes. I would've asked them if I was missing something but they didn't seem in the game. We spent about an hour tops in Old Town and bought a few shirts and keepsakes. Prices for antiques were way TOO pricey, we stuck to souvenirs. Some shops appropriated Native American decor and were selling items for triple the price. Nah, I'll go to the reservation and get authentic items from the source. Note: Parking is FREE!

Old Town Scottsdale is a locals and tourist Mecca, a playground for adults looking for fun. The architecture ranges from Western period shops to modern stylistic high end boutiques. There is a wonderful collection of Art Galleries, Western apparel, Native American Jewelry stores, Rare coins collectors shops, endless variety of Resturant's and nightlife. It has developed into a destination experience with something for everyone. It's a Bar crawlers Paradise where limo Golf carts can drive you to your next stop or hotel. This area has numerous Hotels for out of town'ers or stationers who wish to enjoy the night life of Old Town Scottsdale. !

3.5 Extremely "touristy". Interesting architecture but it's more a drinking, eating and shopping experience. The Native artwork, jewellery, rugs, carpets, and antiquities were phenomenal. It's a popular place to party like there's no tomorrow, eat, drink and shop till you drop. I've experienced better Old Towns TBH. Having said this, Scottsdale has a lot of history and is a magnificent Town.

Old Town Scottsdale is a great choice for restaurants, galleries and shopping at the businesses. There is free street and lot parking. I visit on occasion and when I do, I always see new stores to explore. Public restrooms are available. There are also many shaded benches to rest your feet.

Always a great day or night on the town in Old Town.. I love the variety of shops on Main Street .

We visited downtown Scottsdale. We walked around looking at galleries and also enjoyed some ice cream at an old-fashioned diner/ice cream parlor.

There is neat but seems a little bit rundown. Stopped at a Mexican restaurant while we were there and wasn't too impressed. It was a Sunday morning so not very much action. Definitely nicer areas to visit if you are in town.

The Old Town Scottsdale is nestled within nine walkable neighborhoods. I like the walk at this blend of urban chic and old west charm, and the experience exploring a unique collection of shops, restaurants, art galleries, nightclubs, and contemporary public arts and historic sites, all within walking distance.

Pretty nice area with a lot of shops and restaurants. The old country western theming is really cool with photo ops all over. There is plenty of parking and the park is really nice. The shops vary pretty well in price from cheap to high end.

Everyone advised us to visit. The area is cute. With the exception of two stores (and art stores), it's very touristy. I'm glad I went, but it's definitely not something I'd go to again or spend a lot of time at. It was such a buildup. This was very disappointing.

What a cool area of town. It's like being in the old west without the stench. We ate dinner at the Sizzle Korean BBQ and decided to walk around and have a few drinks before heading back to Downtown Phoenix. The vibe was definitely old school. It was late on a Sunday, so no shops were open, just a few bars. I'd definitely like to come back and explore the area more when it's either not late or not 110 degrees. Just seems like a fun area of town.

Scottsdale!!! Love this area it's really nice with a chill vibe. The little shops are nicely set up. There is a cute little ice cream shop called the Sugar bowl that is so cute and does banana splits and old fashion milk shakes and floats. The serve food as well but we came for the ice on a hot evening. I would definitely recommend visiting and shopping the Indian shops filled with Navajo and Comanche tribal jewelry and apparel.

Sort of quaint shopping area full of turquoise shops, craft shops, restaurants. Parking is free for 3 hour limit but I don't think anyone checks.

We were staying at Canopy Hilton in old town Scottsdale, so naturally we drove through this small village a few times. There are shops, restaurants and bars within walking distances. Also some museums I would love to visit next time. I had my hair done at a salon next to our hotel and it was great experience. I saw many ppl walk around. I couldn't stand the heat so we mostly just drove to places the entire weekend. We Californians are so spoiled by our Mediterranean climate temperatures that's for sure! Most importantly I need to stay away from scorching Arizona sun to protect my sensitive & fair skin! This is definitely a cute little old town that's worth visiting!

This is fun and there are so many great spots! You can get ice cream do wine, tasting, and shop at multiple different stores I definitely recommend and feel like it's a staple to visiting AZ I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

First time coming here, visited this place after visiting the fashion mall next door. Plenty of great small businesses and restaurants to check out. Most of the places are pricey especially the restaurants. Great entertainment throughout the walk around the area. Parking is a bit challenging but worth checking out!

Free parking and lots of cool sculptures to look at and art galleries. It's a clean and peaceful place to take a walk and enjoy the sites of old town.

My buddy recommended checking out Old Town Scottsdale. It has that old western charm and feel! It was a hot Tuesday night as we walked around the area. You could see the numerous art galleries, restaurants, ice cream stores, etc.

This place is great for large parties. I loved the quac, queso, fresh tortillas and the salsa. The margaritas here are amaaaazing and you get a generous pour on the classic.

I've lived in Scottsdale a couple times in my life and have always enjoyed visiting the Old Town area. The Thursday night artwalk is one of my favorite things things to do. It's a lot more chill than the other Valley artwalks and has some really nice galleries that showcase incredible high end art. Old Town Scottsdale is nestled within nine walkable neighborhoods and been around since the late 1880's. It's unique because it has a nice blend of Old West charm, Southwestern flair, high-class shopping, bars, art and fine dining. There is something here for all ages. The art galleries open up for viewing every Thursday night for the artwalk. The Civic Center has a LOVE sculpture, the Museum of Contemporary Art and a Spring Training facility for the S.F. Giants. The Waterfront is a nice place for a stroll after shopping at nearby Scottsdale Fashion Square and hosts the Canal Convergence each year. For hotels, I have done staycations at The Valley Ho for many years. It has a long history in Scottsdale and was built in the 50's. I love the Hawaiian them and many celebrities have stayed there over the years. If you are going to visit Old Town, The Sugar Bowl is a must. It's an old ice cream parlor that has been a staple in Old Town Scottsdale since 1958. My favorite breakfast spots are the Breakfast Club and JoJo Coffeehouse. Some of my other favorite restaurants over the years have been The Mission, AZ 88, Los Olivos, Old Town Tortilla Factory, Roaring Fork, Café Monarch, Olive and Ivy, Farm and Craft and Grimaldi's. Even though I don't frequent clubs much these days, Old Town Scottsdale is also known for their club and bar scene. I grew up hanging at a dive bar called the Coach House and still stop in from time to time. The Kaz Bar is a hidden gem that has live music and is a favorite of mine as well.

This area caters more to tourists than locals. You will see a variety of shops selling a WIDE variety of creative work from local artists. It can range from metal sculptures to ceramics to jewelry to wall art and beyond. And if you are looking for SouthWest merch this is the spot. There are additional historical spots to check out as well. Maps are available.

I've been to the Phoenix area several times, and each time, I've wound up in Old Town Scottsdale and discovered something new and unique. Sure, there's some kitschy touristy shops, but plenty of great places to walk around for a more western feel, and some pretty good restaurants. There are upbeat clubs and bars for those looking for a fun night out as well. I highly recommend Diego Pops for Mexican cuisine in an upbeat and trendy environment. On my most recent visit, my eyes opened wide upon approach to Old Town, as they had it all decorated and lit up for their month-long holiday Scottsdazzle festivities. It is popular as lots of people were roaming around and taking photos, basking in the holiday charm. I was like a little kid roaming about among the decorated trees and various holiday displays. It was all so charming as light reflected along the little canal way there. They had a stage set up for performances, although no music when I visited. I would recommend a visit to Old Town Scottsdale to Phoenix area visitors.

This is a to-go neighborhood for us since we love the architecture, tons of restaurants, pubs & shopping options. This place even looks better during holidays because of the light decor all over. The shop's alley has a nice design and tons of local arts and crafts to see. You will be entertained by the live artist as well while you walk the area. Most famous pubs and discos are here only. It is a historic town with tons of things to do & we never got bored. I do recommend dressing up well especially at night since many upscale restaurants are here and so the crowd is mostly dressed at that level. Parking is mostly easy but don't be surprised to struggle to find one (free or paid) during peak time. Overall, Scottsdale is a great place to hang out and I highly recommend this to any tourist in the Phoenix-Scottsdale area.

A must visit if in the area. The shops are fun to visit and the area itself gives you the old west feel. There are a lot of things to see while wandering around the town. The Sugar Bowl is a great ice cream stop, and the shops have a lot of variety. If you enjoy art, the art district will impress.

Very artsy and a lot of the stores are gift shop variations of one another. Definitely a to do while in Scottsdale but once you scratch it off your list, no need to keep coming back. I believe the night life is probably a bit more fun.

Got shopping done here and hit a couple bars. Night life is great and the locals were very helpful on giving suggestions where to eat and I had a good time overall. Please be sure to check out this location soon.

wished we had more time to explore scottsdale we were leaving back to CA in an hour decided to do a quick stop and tour old town so glad we did did more of hop in and out via vehicle to take pix of the historical sites (thank goodness for the map) it was about 100° would have loved to walk around and grab a quick lunch , but next time blocks and blocks of things to see and do def recommend a visit!

This place is a whole vibe. The nightlife is popular amongst the locals. There is a cordoned off area with no street traffic where many of the bars and clubs are located. It's pretty neat. During the day, there are a lot of establishments to eat at and drink as well. This is a bourgeois experience. Great place to walk around, wander, and people watch.

Such a lit place for holidays! Best karaoke places, best food, best drinks and best fun! Get lit at Old Town, you won't be dissatisfied.

Old Town Taste is one of my favorite restaurants to order up from. The food is authentic and filled with flavor! The Spicy chicken (not pictured) is my favorite dish but is a very high spice level that I wouldn't recommend to many. The tofu veggie soup is flavorful and always delicious. The sauce chicken is bone-in but packed with flavor as well. I suggest getting a side of rice to eat it over. Great food, great and quick service.

Out of towners here on a visit. Lot of wierd, kinda expensive and touristy trap.. It's cool to see but we were ready to leave.

Old Scottsdale is greater than New Scottsdale Really enjoyed what I've seen so far. Need to go back to see the rest. Art Walk every Thursday night from 7-9. Incredible galleries on Main St.

We dropped by in the morning to check out the area before skipping town and going home. Really cute area with eateries, shops, and a ton of art galleries. We grabbed coffee at a nearby coffee shop and purchased jewelry from the Native Art Market. We had a lovely morning stroll. I'm curious what it's like at night. If you're into art, there is quite a bit to check out with all the galleries, but if you're not, not sure if it would be your cup of tea.

Oh, Old Town Scottsdale, how I love thee!! Yep! Step back in time to the historic old west and meander down these rustic streets and shop til your heart's content!! Shop after shop, bulging with jewelry (so much turquoise!), arts and crafts, clothing, gifts, souvenirs and restaurants than anyone could ever visit in a day! We definitely put a dent in the stores though! The streets are so cool, old timey store fronts, split rail fencing, a gorgeous fountain in the center of the square, wrought iron and wooden wagon wheel benches, vintage signage, plenty of spots for photo ops and more await you! I loved the cacti everywhere too! I could have sworn I'd run into Matt Dillon or Miss Kitty along the road! There is lots of parking in the area and then get ready for a day of nostalgic sites and exercise as you pound the pavement. I love all the bright colors of the pottery and other Mexican and Indian themed housewares! We bought an earthy handmade blanket for $6!! We also found some lovely turquoise pieces and gifts. Some of the jewelry prices were quite high, so be sure to shop around for the best deals! We began our day at Daily Dose for breakfast, and there are several other great restaurants and bars in the area. We ended our afternoon with a cool treat from the ice cream shop! We were licked from all that walking! So this is what "shop til you drop" means! I will not soon forget our visit to Old Town Scottsdale! We loved it!!

This is a good place to people watch and walk around if you are looking to get a walk in and meander in and out of the small shops. You can find tea stores, wine tasting stores, tourist spots, clothing, vintage finds, health markets, home goods, gelato, and tons and tons of brunch places and bars. It's hot down here so I'd bring water - or you can always - while there are a ton of shops that are unique to Scottsdale down here, we spent about an hour and then had lunch. It was too hot for us out of towners!

Scottsdale us really busy with stores and restaurants. The old town part is really cool to visit. They are having conservative the old buildings very well. There are many cool arts to buy. Please, walk there, and take some pictures. If you love desert and Indian themes, you will love many objects to decorate.

Old Town is our go to on most weekends, living 5 minutes away and driving by everyday im still captivated by its beauty and historic significance. Sugar Bowl remains our favorite icecream spot we never go anywhere else even though it gets a bit crowded. I always bring any out of town guests to stroll the old town area. The evenings are perfect for date nights , fun family dinners , going out with friends there's something for everybody. Ton of options to choose from Montauk, diego pops , hula's, culinary dropout and many more. ( love the HH ) Lots of sightseeing and photo ops. Many Art galleries, jewelry and souvenir shops. Holidays are all the more magical with additional light installations and Scottsdazzle you can also send letters to santa and guess what he is going to write back YAY. If this is your first time in Scottsdale take a day and check out Old Town you will not be disappointed. Cheers!

I could not really find anything to do here. The stores were really old, extremely overpriced, and very underwhelming.

We came here for the day to see what all the hype was about. We left very confused. Why the hype over this place? It looks just like downtown Gilbert. Very few public parking areas and once all the parking spots are taken up, good luck finding any place to park. Both sides of the street are filled with restaurants, but there is only so much food one can eat. A few touristy stores and gift shops. The only other thing to do here other than eat and shop is get stuck in traffic up and down the Main Street. When we came there was also road construction and they had it down to one lane, making drivers very frustrated, us included! Will not be returning!

There are a lot of shops and places to eat. Thank goodness for Yelp for just driving through I wouldn't think much. I prefer the ambiance in the afternoon and evenings the best. Daytime is best to visit all the shops and is a great place to bring out of town guests. A lot of construction going on and there has been a lot of buildings tore town and rebuilt. 1992 and 1993 I spent a lot of time with my sorority sisters at The Works Dance Club here. We would come in our baggy jeans and white t-shirts so we could glow under the black lights. It was techno bom, bom, bom, bom, bom ...We would arrive after last call for alcohol drink Shirley Temples and dance until 4am. They have a few tours here in Old Town Scottsdale. The Segway tour looks like a lot of fun. I really get a kick out of people doing the Tour De Tavern and the Arizona Bike Party and the Bike Bar Crawl & Beer Bike Tour! I think I am adding ot to my Yelp bucket list. I enjoy seeing everyone having fun! They start early in the day as well. Old Town Scottsdale isn't really my vibe these days, but I enjoy coming at night! With the party lights and some new restaurants I hadn't tried before. I recommend getting on Yelp ahead of time to catch the latest events, places to eat and things to do and see so you can plan your adventure before arriving.

Growing up in Phoenix/Tempe, Scottsdale has always been on the short list of destination points on the weekends. Now that I am older and can actually afford dinner and am now old enough (unfortunately ... plenty old enough) to enter locations that are 21 and older... I appreciate the Old Town vibe even more. There are art galleries, shops, bars and restaurants everywhere. It's beautifully lit in the evenings and if you enjoy strolling around with your partner, window gazing and checking out your next dinner date option... this is a must-visit. I love the way this area of Scottsdale has been kept up. The modern touch details of the old west decor have not been overlooked. Heck, you can even grab a metal tie ring to secure your horse. Look for this touch on many of the wood posts, by the side walks. (Seen in one of my pics) For those that have a little difficulty getting around... there are many attendants driving passenger sized golf carts, to help you along the way and get you to you shop or restaurant destination. Old Town is one of my favorites and will always be one of my my favorites. Have fun!!

Found a free park in the Western side of Old Town Scottsdale and had a great time exploring the shops, galleries and especially the tea shop which sells any tea of your choice to go. Buy an iced tea to sip as you wander in the heat to keep cool. There is a small beautiful park opposite the church/smithy which has a sculpture display worth taking photos for Instagram. The saloons sounded raucously fun if you are into live music and day drinking...yeeha! We bought a few gifts from the cute clothing shops and obviously a good selection of spices, bbq seasoning, tea and flavoured sugars from the tea shop. The galleries and western shops were fun to browse but we didn't really need a stuffed rattlesnake or expensive cowboy boots so we didn't spend much in them. There is a store run by the local American Indian community selling an eclectic range of goods which are authentically AI made with all monies going to the artists which I highly recommend visiting - jewelery, t shirts, posters, artwork, music, toiletries, etc. They also perform live music and dancing on occasion. It is a small area but well worth visiting and spending a few hours taking it all in. We drove there from the other side of Old Scottsdale where the modern bars and retail are as it was too hot to walk at midday in 102 degrees.

My husband and I spent a day in Old Town Scottsdale and loved it. We started with a walking tour and moved on to a food tour. Afterwards we spent some time shopping. The area is beautiful and the locals are friendly. There is a calendar of events that you can check out on their website. Old Town is rich in history. It was the start of settlement and development in Scottsdale. Back in 1888 when the town was being established two olive trees were planted on second street that are still standing today. We stopped by to take a look at them on our walking tour. There are lots of restaurants here. We sampled five and came back during our vacation for a meal in two others. The food in this area is amazing and there isn't a bad restaurant in the bunch.

Great spot for a long walk or to people watch. There are many shops and restaurants to visit. A couple of wineries are on location as well. Much to see and do!

It def has that old town western feel!! I came early so there's was plenty of free parking but by the time I left it was busy. I walked around and just checked out the shops and they were so much fun! I picked up some goodies to bring home for my family. Filled with restaurants and lots of shopping.

This is a great place to walk around and shop. It certainly has an Old Town feel. Check it out when you're nearby!
