"The Saguaro Scottsdale is among the handful of downtown Scottsdale hotels that embrace the urban Southwest vibe. Although it began life as a 1970s chain motel—evident in its blocky structure and the compactness of most rooms—this now-hip address has blossomed into the visual equivalent of desert wildflowers at the height of a wet spring. Especially striking against the desert tan that coats just about every other structure in Scottsdale, both outside and in, are a riot of colors that go beyond orange and purple and pink and yellow to such wildflower shades as California Poppy and Red Desert Globemallow. Just as vibrant is the Saguaro’s pool-party scene, aided, no doubt, by water temps chilled or heated as the season dictates. A complete redo of the Saguaro’s rooms in January 2017 gave them a modern Southwest vibe (think pastel-colored prints of cacti and desert-hued furnishings), but not so much that guests will be asking the concierge where to shop for cowboy boots (which would be Saba’s, just down the street, in Old Town)."

November 3, 2025. Booked through a 3rd party. Called for an early check in. The lady was super kind. Upon arrival I met her, she was so nice. I did read reviews after I booked and found out about the construction. I'm glad I knew about it or I'd be sad. The hotel really is under construction, not just paint. The room was one of the remodeled ones. It was ok. Clean enough to sleep. Sure there were a few long black hairs but they didn't bother me, some suff under the bed like trash, again didn't bother me. The location is perfect. Walk to a lot of places. The noise from the construction was minimal and I didn't have any issues with hot water. I'd stay here again.

While this hotel is located in a great spot, and has high potential once their remodel is done, I do not think it is in condition for guests to book at this time. When looking online, the false advertising shows a beautiful hotel, with a vibrant lobby, and pool, along with beautifully re done rooms. Upon arrival to my stay two weeks ago, we were directed to a make shift lobby of a fold out table and chairs. When we got to our room, the sliding door was broken and wouldn't lock, and the main door to the room closed and locked, but didn't fit the door hole properly and you could see through the edges into the hallway. The room seemed to have been updated, however the bathroom still had mildew and mold on the ceilings, and the showers were covered in dirt on the floor. To top it all off, there was no hot water. I called the front desk, and they simply told me with the construction they couldn't guarantee hot water as the water gets turned on and off frequently. If my 18 month old daughter hadn't already been asleep for the night after a long travel day, I would not have stayed even one night at this hotel. However, the front desk was kind and sympathetic to the issues and refunded my entire stay without any issue. I do think this hotel has potential and maybe after they are FINISHED with the renovation it will be a good place to stay, however I do not think they should be booking rooms while construction is going on given the state of the rooms, lack of hot water, and false advertising leading to consumers not having access to full amenities advertised.

The rooms are dated and need serious work. The bed was uncomfortable. The room was bare and poorly lit. There is a major renovation taking place but that was not indicated anywhere on the hotel site. Walls are very thin. The water pressure in the shower was literally a drip. Hot water was not even an option. The door to the bathroom was an unfinished sliding door without any handles or locks. Very disappointed. The only upside is location and proximity to Old Scottsdale.

We stayed at The Monarch Hotel for a wedding weekend, and it really put a damper on the trip. Most of the listed amenities — pools, spa, gym, and restaurant — were closed, and there was no hot water all weekend. Definitely not worth the price I payed when booking this. While we were there, we noticed the hotel had updated its site to say the amenities were “temporarily closed,” which was never disclosed when we booked. I emailed afterward and received no apology or compensation. Very disappointing, especially for a special occasion.

Perfect location and cool hotel. Although it was under renovation everything was nice! Myles is fantastic. He was super accommodating since i got lost looking for the lobby and helped me get everything squared away in no time. Super kind people and super professional team. Highly recommend now and I cant wait for the remodel!

I enjoyed my time at the hotel. Nice ambiance. Nice pool area. Fun pool party. Nice vibes. Helpful staff. Great location. Good value. Clean room and premises. Only minor complaints (see Cons below) Pros: •Good sized king room •Fridge •Comfy bed •Nice room patio Cons (minor): •Shower head needed to be changed, a new shower head would have made the water flow better •Room phone to contact front desk and/or housekeeping

Came here for a wedding which had a room block. They did not notify us of the “pool renovation” prior to our arrival at 11pm. Well it wasnt just the pool but the entire hotel being renovated. Extremely deceiving from the hotel to not let guests know so they basically keep occupancy. This hotel should have been closed for renovations and not taken guests. They didnt have a lobby, restaurant or much staff. We ended up only staying one night because it was 1130pm. Thankfully they allowed us to cancel the other two nights. Lastly woke up to a leak in our bed from the roof!!! The next morning when we complained they refunded us the night thankfully (minus taxes) Ultimately, this hotel should be closed until renovations are closed. OR LET THE GUESTS KNOW BEFORE THEY ARRIVE. We were able to book at the Adeline for the same price which is crazy given that the hotel was in rennovation and the adeline wasnt. Will not stay here again if i am ever in scottsdale and nor should do.

I feel I got a lot of bang for my buck. I stayed at this hotel when it was under the Sonder umbrella many times and this was my first time back in over 1 1/2 years under the new ownership. My requirements then and now was a room that was quiet and had a separate bedroom and living area with a large table to set up my computer to work ( and a mini fridge). I got the superior king suite which meets that need. The suite compared to normal hotel rooms is huge! And the bathroom is the one item that keeps me returning. The tub is huge and separate from the shower in 2 seperate areas. There are 2 distinct bathroom areas which I love. It runs the whole width of the hotel room. The hotel room itself is always immaculately clean with tons of towels and toiletries. I do not like housekeeping service while I am ant an hotel and anytime I needed a refresher for coffee etc I was able to get asap from the front desk. I also like I can park outside of my room. There are 2 pools and one of the best hotel gyms I have used. The beds are super comfy and I really need to find out where they buy their bedroom mirrors because it is super flattering :).the hotel is the closest hotel to the old Scottsdale shopping area and minutes from the mall. ||So to the negatives... I would assume for others, but not necessarily for me based on what I care about... overall, the walkways and common areas outside (besides the pool, gym, etc) are still kind of run down. Elevators may give you a jump scare, ice machine may or may not work but they put up signs to direct to the next working machine. Balconies also off the rooms are not upgraded. But none of that is ever my concern. If you are inviting people over to be impressed with your posh hotel this is not the place for you... if you want a large and clean room that is safe and affordable this will be your jam as it ticks all of th||I will say, the first room I was given was spacious but overlooking the main pool and I was unaware that they have music, food and drinks from 11-6 so it wasn't great with my working from my hotel room. I went to reception to inquire how long it lasts and if it is every day and when they said yes I requested to move rooms and they did so immediately to the far end without a moments thought! And said they just wanted me to be happy. And I was! ||The pools had plenty of towels and seats and beds and cabanas too and it was not crowded at all!||The staff was great and kind and I appreciated the pre welcome text from Bryce and having the ability to text for any issues or requests and to check out via text. All in all for the 4 days where they had a special of 1 night free with 3 days, I spent 580 bucks or so and it was well worth it. I will definitely stay again.

Yelp
They say you get what you pay for, and at the Monarch all you're paying for is location. The good news is that the hotel is conveniently located close to all of the Scottsdale restaurants, bars, and shops that are within a short walking distance. Aside from the location, there isn't much to talk about. The hotel is old and seems like it hasn't been taken care of. When checking in, we waiting a long while to find a front desk person to greet us. Once we got to our room, we noted that the bathroom and shower was a bit grimy and beat up, and the room was extremely plain. There was a TV available, but no channels to use. The pool and recreation area was dead and seemed dirty and run down. There wasn't even any music playing and there was only one pool attendant. We had to retrieve towels for ourselves in the back room and then cleaned off the dirty pool chairs. Overall, the hotel is great for a quick stop in when you have a lot of plans, but don't plan to spend a lot of time in the room or around the hotel campus.

Yelp
If you do any money transactions with these people, make sure you check behind them. My mistake is trusting people that I assume that knows what they're doing, to do it right. I reserved for two nights, called back the following day and decided to pay for those two nights. I like to pay in advance to see whats left of my vacation money and plan accordingly. So, I get to the hotel, I didn't get the top floor I requested when i paid for the room. I told the front desk person and he said he can correct that with no problem. He handed me the key, I think to room 3102 and he told me it's on the top floor as I requested and he upgraded me for free to the balcony pool view. I get to building 3 and go up the stairs to the top floor and after walking in circles, I find that there is no 3102 on the top floor. I went to the second floor and looked around and to the first floor and found it and thats when i called. He apologized and said he made a mistake and he can correct it for me. I explained it's triple digit weather and too hot for all of this walking around searching for a room. This time, i decided to take the elevator and this is the first time i ever felt so terrified of an elevator. The elevator consistently jerk up and down and we ascended, got tot he floor and it did a wobble type of shake. I get inside the room and wasn't impressed, I see why this is a 3 star hotel on Expedia/priceline and this was suppose to be one of the upgraded more expensive rooms. Anyway, the next morning I get a text message (see attached), that they're having trouble processing my second day payment. This being the dumbest thing i ever heard from any hotel, I decided to go in person to see what is going on. I explained to the front desk that from day one I keep having issues with this place and ALL the hotels I ever stayed at, when i book and pay for 2 nights or more, they charge the entire thing to my card, I have NEVER been to a place like this that charge per night. His reply was; "I know, it's our mistake". He stated; "I see your first night was paid, I'm going to refund that and charge the second night to your credit card". My credit card (my back up card) didn't go through because some kind of payment hold for the past 4 days. I also notice, this guy was not refunding me for my first stay, as some sort of courtesy/apology as he led me to believe, he refunded the first night and tried to charge both nights on my credit card instead. So I wind up having to check out a day and a half early, do to The Monarch's error and failure to charge me the entire stay when I called in advance to do so. I went to the front desk to turn in the room keys and asked for the manager, he goes in the back and comes out and said they're not here and he thinks they are on break. This is just their way of not wanting to discuss their error with me and being responsible. I travel to Phoenix all the time and never will book this place again.

Yelp
Overall a catfish hotel experience. The staff was kind and offered a refund but we checked out minutes after check in. Not acceptable for the price of stay per night.

Yelp
This place is long past the glory days, but the location is about as close to Old Town Scottsdale as can be. The two different pools makes it an attractive choice for families. The grounds are adorned with palms and bougainvillea. However... The rooms are a kludge of cheap furniture, hodgie-podgie & amateurish "updates", too-small TVs, and bare white walls. The balcony is too narrow to stand fully outside. The couple of pieces of art in the room are totally random in content and placement. The shower has mildew stains and ugly gaps in the caulking. The hallways and stairwells are not cleaned regularly. The elevator wasn't vacuumed in the seven days we were here. I'll bet that orange earplug is still on the floor in that corner where it appeared our third day in. But we stayed, mainly because of location. Thought about moving but decided against it. Then it got worse. Our first couple of days, housekeeping came in and exchanged the linens and towels - a bit of a surprise these days because many places don't unless you ask. The did not refresh the coffee service the first day but managed to do so the second. The next three (3) days, they completely ignored our room. No exchange of linen, no refresh of coffee service, no trash removal. Nothing. And no, the DND was not on the door. So after the third missed day, we called guest services to complain and ask them to at least have someone remove the trash. We didn't care so much about sheets or towels, but the trash was piling up. We believed, after the phone call, that the matter would be attended to, and we went out to dinner. We returned to the room to find nothing done. Another call to guest services brought the response that the head of housekeeping said the records showed the room had been serviced every day. He actually asked, how did we know housekeeping hadn't serviced the room? (Um? Because the tip is still on the bed pillow?) And apparently, it was expected that we would be satisfied with that answer. The head of housekeeping couldn't even be bothered to come look at our room before declaring us liars. Guest services - they just didn't want to get involved. And that, folks, is how much regard they have for their guests: Guests are too much trouble. They all lie, anyway. Don't bother. Your experience may differ. But I will go a long, long way out of my way to never stay here again.

Andrea M.

Yelp
Do not be fooled. Other sites rate this place anywhere from 3 star to 4. At best it is 1.5. customer service terrible. Not clean. People banging on your door because they can hear you speaking. Outdoor pool has ZERO service accept on Fridays Sat and Sundays ( Sometimes) No food options, Drinks out of a can. Management does not respond to complaints. Bedding is subpar at best. Place looks and feels like a expensive Motel. Wasted over 1K at the place. BEWARE. they keep changing the name to fool you twice.

David L.

Yelp
Man it's good to be back here most underrated hotel in history. The new manager takes care of people. Love this place. Pool vibes are the best as always the bartender at the pool Jordan is the bomb

Cindy V.

Yelp
Rickety elevator stopped working and we are on the 3rd floor. No shampoo in dispenser which was learned only after I needed to use it. Will never return. Horrible experience.

Chaco M.

Yelp
Possibly having lightbulbs in place, shelf in the fridge, maybe the little fridge on a table instead of the floor. We will guess we got a substandard room (not many staying that night btw) due to purchasing off an online website not directly w the hotel. We'd stayed during spring training as another hotel management co had it. The corners of the beds aren't designed well and one knocks into them, no garbage can in room. Needed an extra blanket.... We'll just pass next time until maybe Monarch kicks the standard of minimal up to comfortable. Used the ironing board as a table as there was no table or extra chair for two of us.
