Saint Peter's Square

After seeing it for so long in video, finally got the chance to see it in person and it did not disappoint. It was breathtaking to see all the various monuments and statues which decorate the square each steep in their own rich history. Since I was there in December it was cool to see the life sized nativity scenery and the giant Christmas tree decorating the square lit up at night.

We joined a group tour, and we were seated close to the stage where the Pope sits during the public blessings held on Wednesdays. We lined up on the left side of the street facing the square. Had 2 to go through 2 separate security checks. Recommended to fall in line early and find a seat near the aisle where the Pope mobile passes by. Wonderful experience to get a glimpse of the Pope and pray as one big Christian community.

A beautiful place to admire the Renaissance period sculpture, the brilliance of Michael Angelo and the peace within the heart that only this square can provide. Visit in the evening when it’s quieter and watch the evening cradle the place slowly. No tickets needed.

One of the most visited places on earth. And perhaps the place of religious worship where the greatest number of believers come every year. There is a big every day and a very large crowd on special occasions. It is the place where Catholics assemble to get the papal blessing on specific days. From the square one can easily see the curtained window where a newly-elected pope makes his first appearance.

St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican is absolutely breathtaking. The architecture is stunning, from the massive colonnades to the beautiful fountains and statues that surround the square. Standing in the center, you truly feel the grandeur and history of this iconic place. The atmosphere is incredible, with pilgrims, tourists, and locals all coming together in this historic space. Visiting the Vatican gives you a deep appreciation for art, culture, and faith, and the square is the perfect introduction before entering St. Peter’s Basilica. Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or simply want to soak in one of the most famous landmarks in the world, St. Peter’s Square is an unforgettable experience.”

St Peter’s Square feels less like a piazza than a vast open nave. Bernini’s plan draws you in two steps: a trapezoid that pulls you towards the basilica, then a great oval where double colonnades curve like embracing arms. At the centre the ancient Egyptian obelisk, paired with two fountains, fixes a calm three-point geometry. The space is theatrical and tightly controlled, built to contain processions, papal blessings and today’s televised gatherings. Above, a ring of stone saints lines the entablature, so that anyone standing in the square is held inside a frame of architecture, history and the global gaze of contemporary Catholicism.

This is a magical, holy, life changing experience! You feel God EVERYWHERE! If you dont, you may need to do more praying and get to confession :) A lot of history and the impact of the Catholic faith around the world is greatly exhibited in this treasured site.

The most famous square of the planet Earth! It’s a beautiful place, and certainly you can feel a calming sensation when you’re here. Vatican City is gorgeous, and this Square is responsible in a big way! It is big, nice and stunning. At the very center you can see the Saint Peter’s Cathedral. It’s full of people during summer, so take your precautions. Near you have restaurant to eat and some stores to buy souvenirs. It’s a must to visit if you’re visiting Rome! Totally recommended.
