"Part of the revitalization of the city of Santa Marta is this new addition to its cultural offerings. The Tayrona Gold Museum (Museo del Oro Tairona), named after the Tayrona culture, whichdates back to at least 100 C.E., has a fascinating collection of pre-Columbian gold jewelry and other artifacts, as well as displays about the region's history. A centerpiece of Parque Simón Bolívar, the museum is located in the restored 16th-century former Customs House (Casa de la Aduana), one of the earliest buildings in Santa Marta and an important artifact in itself."

Great small museum - with free entry! Where you can find many artworks from the region: ceramics, stonework, metalworks & textiles. Beautifully displayed with both Spanish and English descriptions. A couple of the rooms have air-con too! The building itself is beautiful and has a lot of interesting history too. A must see in Santa Marta 🙌

The museum del Oro Tayrona consists of two floors and covers the archaeological, historical, and animal life of the surrounding area of this beautiful city. Many exhibits tell the story of the Inca period and about Tayrona region The museum is small, but compact and captures the history of the area. Admission is free. An hour is enough to view all the exhibits.

The Tayrona Gold Museum in Santa Marta is a very educational and enriching place. It offers a great opportunity to learn about the history and culture of the city and the Tayrona region. The entrance is free, which makes it even more accessible for everyone. Highly recommended for those who want to explore Santa Marta’s historical heritage in depth.

Worth a visit. Admission is free, and the collection of gold pieces and orfebrería is beautiful. The museum also shares the history and traditions of the Tayrona indigenous people, adding depth to the experience. What makes it even more enjoyable is the staff, they explain everything with clarity and are open to questions. Beyond gold, the museum also covers the history of Simón Bolívar and the city of Santa Marta, giving visitors a complete cultural perspective. A must-see stop in the city!”

This is a must go to place that’s full of cultural historical information regarding the local indigenous population and subsequent Spanish colonization. The artifacts are exquisite and each tell a unique story take the time to go here and read about it. It’s eye-opening to say the least!

Great museum. A bit of everything. Indigenous peoples of the area and their culture/lives. How Santa Marta was colonised/founded. Simon Bolivars last stand - as in when he passed. Some ceramics and pottery, gold pieces, history of the lost city. All housed in perhaps Santa Marta’s best preserved colonial building. Well worth a visit and it’s free!

Very cool museum with great exhibits about the history of Santa Marta and the indigenous inhabitants and their way of life. The gold ornaments and jewelry are amazingly detailed and there are more everyday and funerary artifacts too. Great place to get out of the heat of the day and best of all, it's free to enter. Thank you Santa Marta.
