Hellabrunn Zoo

Absolutely amazing! The park is really big and has so many different animals, all in large and very well-kept spaces. It’s perfect for kids—my son had so much fun and we really enjoyed the day.

One of the most beautiful zoos I’ve ever visited. Plenty of trees and shades. Variety of animals grouping together while it is quite close and open to see them. They have pretty good restaurants with quality food. Also have a few playgrounds that are super nice! I came here during summer time and it is perfect weather.

Absolutely must go if you have more than 3 days in Munich! One of the best zoos in terms of animal husbandry. Most of the exhibits were massive allowing a lot of room for the animals to roam. Most animals were lively and playful. The Biergarten was a plus and a delicious break from the hike.

Had a wonderful time visiting Hellabrunn Zoo. The zoo is spacious, well designed, and has a great variety of animals in naturalistic enclosures. My favorite parts were seeing the polar bear, which was really impressive up close, and the lynx, which I had never seen before in person. The giraffes were also a highlight, beautiful and elegant. The whole place feels very clean and well cared for, and you can tell the animals are looked after properly although for sure you can feel their loneliness 🥲. It’s a great place to spend a few hours exploring. I definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Munich, especially families with children.

Massive zoo! Loving it here. You can follow the tour path by following the orange signs. If you have kids, lots of playground to enjoy. For adults, I saw at least 3 Bier gardens and 2 other beer vendors.

The Zoo itself seemed very nice. I was super excited to see the Tiger. The Rino was very not energetic. He definitely was not hapoy. It was a hot day so he was probably just not wanting visitors. Hopefully they can get him some more room to get away when he wants to. Overall the zoo was great. Great staff and plenty of things to see. If I had one suggestion it would be to have more signage on the walkways. Not a lot more, but using the map and trying to get around on streets needed a bit more help.

Great collection and you will see quite a rear animals like polar bear, Penguin etc. family ticket is 45€. It is on U3 line and reaching there is easy.

Amazing zoo and a must see if visiting Munich. The exhibits are spacious, animals you can tell are well taken care of. Very peaceful atmosphere and lots of fun for kids!

This is an awesome, huge zoo. If you're inclined to skip it because you're in Europe and art and castles, don't. They do zoos well here. The animals have huge enclosures (the primates have several islands they can swing on to & swing in the trees over water, outside!). Take your kid to the play structure. Let them climb the slide. Consider how it would never fly in the US & then see the look of delight & self-confidence when they come down. Have a crepe with ham & cheese​ in the shade. The most civilized zoo food ever. You can get here easily with the underground & a short walk

Wunderschön gemacht, alt eingesessen, Preise echt ok. Inklusive Essen und Trinken. Aber ein grauer dreckiger Eisbär mit grünem Wasser voller Algen, nur einem Plastikeimer zum Spielen, oder Elefanten mit gefühlt nur 100 qm Auslauf - LEUTE, DAS DÜRFEN WIR HEUTZUTAGE NICHT MEHR ZULASSEN !!! Netflix und Dokus gehen auch, zu edukativen Zwecken (Lehre für Kinder). Bei Meerschweinchen oder Affen sage ich ja nichts, aber das geht wirklich zu weit.

Really enjoyed this zoo. Wide variety of animals, many cohabitating in shared large shared enclosures. Zoo is set in a forested park area, lots of shade which was appreciated on a sunny summer day. There is a decent aquarium on site too. Lots of quality food options, much better quality and value than US zoos. Great option for families with kids.

Very impressed how close you can get to the animals in their natural like settings. As good as any zoo. I've been to in the USA like San Diego, the Bronx, Philly, and DC. And they serve beer! $15 adult ticket and $4 parking well worth it.

A forecast for rain all day caused us to cancel our trip to Neuschwanstein castle this day and our concierge recommended the much closer Munich Zoo 'just until the rain came'. Six hours later it never rained but we had a great day.

We went to this zoo on 03-Jul-2019. They do have a good selection of animals and some guided tours. We didn't do any tour, but just explored the zoo ourselves. The monkeys and apes were the most interesting part of the zoo for us. We've not seen Mandrills, Gibbons and Orangutans in some zoos we have been to in the US, and we looked at them here- it was very nice to see the gorillas, chimpanzees, Orangutans, and other monkeys. The other animals are pretty standard, and I would advise against expecting too much out of the aquarium. The area is very nice, though. The river and the greenery around are very pretty and it's worth the walk in the zoo. The entrance fee is €15 per adult but only €11.60 if you're a student. Also carry cash if you want to get food in the cafes at the zoo.

Animals were very active (visited in early May). Fun for a day trip with young kids but nothing particularly different then what you will see at zoos in the US.

If you have been to other international Zoos, then you will know just how great the Munich Zoo, the "Tierpark Hellabrunn" is. I have spent days here, including once to make a mini-documentary, but the best times are when you take your kids (or nephews or grandkids...you get the picture). First of all: The fees are cheap as chips compared to, say, the ridiculously overprized Zoo in Sydney. Secondly: There are amazing exhibits for kids and adults alike. Thirdly: You really can spend all day there - take a break in the beer garden (yep!), with a playground and pony rides - explore the many different "continents" as they are arranged - and go home tired and happy. Germans will always tell you that they don't like Zoos because the animals are not kept the way they live in nature etc. etc. - that is for everyone to decide for themselves, but I have yet to meet someone who does not love Hellabrunn after seeing it (albeit as a guilty pleasure, if they are very conscientious).

The zoo is always a fun place to take the kids and spend the day. Plenty to do and see. Lots of construction at the moment, once finished, 5 stars.

We went to the Zoo with my boyfriend and his godson and his godson's family on a sunny August day. Apparently many people thought that it would be a good day to go to the zoo. But even though it was quite full we still had enough to see and explore. I think the children had a great time and I personally liked that they also have domestic and farm animals that are nearly extinct. I felt that the animals were kept in adequate "cages". An additional bonus is the family offer since not all zoos have stuff like that. I'll definitely return!

Fantastic little zoo worth the admission price. We went on Christmas Eve and the animals were all out and about. The Lions were roaring, peacocks strutting, etc. the playgrounds are great for letting the kids run wild while you rest. We ate at the cafeteria in the back- which was very tastey. Staff were very friendly and helped us with our tray of food. I would definitely go again.

We went to the Zoo to see the rhino baby with 2 kids. Actually the buildings for the animals are pretty old and small. The Zoo isn't very well designed for small kids. There are often no fences next to the trail and you always have to watch your kids. We planned to buy a coffee on our way back to the entrance but it seems they close all places already before they close the Zoo. Also the employees we talked to were pretty unfriendly. Overall it's with 14 € expensive and not very pleasant to go here with toddlers. We have been in better ones!

This zoo is perfect for kids, not too big, not too small so kids don't feel bored or overwhelmed. Good selection of animals who are well placed and are easy to see and observe. There is also a nice cafe on premises that has the usual german food fair: sausages, potatoes, beer, kids choices are available too as well as ice cream.
