Yoji Tokuyoshi, the former sous chef at the revered Osteria Francescana in Modena, about 100 miles south, opened Pan with the restaurateur Alice Yamada last April after the shokupan (Japanese milk bread) at Bentoteca, his Japanese fine dining restaurant in the Ticinese neighborhood, began to garner attention. Pan serves pastries and desserts made with a mix of European and Japanese techniques and flavors, like flaky miso cinnamon rolls, Basque-style matcha cheesecake and anpan, sweet rolls filled with red bean paste. There’s also lunch — and, on the weekends, brunch — with an ever-changing menu that has included dishes like avocado toast with poached eggs and spicy shichimi powder on shokupan; pappa al pomodoro, the traditional Tuscan tomato and bread stew; and omurice, a Japanese dish that combines an omelet with fried rice. The mint green interiors, designed by the local architecture firm Studio Wok, include a bar made of gridded fiberglass panels and rows of pale green textiles along the ceiling inspired by noren, the fabric room dividers commonly used in Japan. -- NYTimes

We really enjoyed morning at this café. The atmosphere is incredibly cosy with a very neat, minimalist design that feels calming. The staff were wonderful—very friendly and clearly well-prepared regarding the menu. There is a good selection for breakfast, and the absolute highlight was the croissant with yuzu cream, which was super delicious. However, there are a couple of things to note: the cappuccino cup was very small compared to standard serving sizes, and the pain au chocolat could be better. Despite that, it’s a lovely spot that I would recommend for the unique vibes and yuzu pastry."

we enjoyed the food, although there were errors in the order, specifically the eggs for the eggs benedict, but otherwise great! nice ambiance, and an inviting interior. the service was okay, kind waiters just not very attentive. would recommend though!

Cute little cafe with Japanese bakery style products and good coffee / matcha options. It’s very popular so prepare yourselves for a long queue during the weekend at breakfast time if you don’t come early enough. Better during the week. The bakery products are very good - love the croissants and the miso cinnamon bun. Also the eggs are lovely! Want to try the shokupan and anpan next.

We took latte, flat white and a sesame cheesecake. Everything was very delicious. This place is not very traditional rather contemporary with nice coffee and pastries. We also stood in a queue, but it went fast for us.

Had higher expectations for the pastries. All looked good but I did not like the pain suisse. Staff were friendly and they have good espresso.

A cute hangout spot with nice selection of Asian pastries! The atmosphere was nice, quite young and contemporary but the seating was very limited. The pastries were solid, our favourite was definitely the curry bun, very similar to the ones I had back home. The drinks were also very good. They also have a few brunch selections, though we did not try them. I’d recommend it as a place to catch up with your friends over some coffee and nice pastries.

Coffeeshop with a Japanese style far away from the center but victim of its success, it's always full of people! They are known for their filled croissants and pastries. We really enjoyed our granola and shokupan toast, however, a little bit disappointed by the pastries: the filled croissant hadn't enough filling and the cinnamon and miso roll wasn't as tasty as I expected.

Drinks weren’t that great as the matcha and hojicha latte were a tad too milky, but we loved the pastries! The mushroom danish particularly stood out, we even ordered another one right after finishing the first one.
