I rarely give five-star reviews, but La Petite Iza genuinely exceeded every expectation. Located very close to the university area in Garneau, it is extremely accessible and set in a beautiful neighborhood. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is breathtaking. The design is unmistakably French, elegant, warm, and immersive. It truly feels like stepping into Paris or somewhere in Europe. The attention to detail is exceptional. From the ceilings to the lighting, every element has been carefully considered. The restaurant has two sections: a main lounge and a side lounge. The side lounge, in particular, is stunning, rich wood textures, layered European design elements, warm tones, and soft candlelight at night create an incredibly intimate and inviting environment. Their wine selection is outstanding, with a strong focus on unique and thoughtfully curated bottles, including excellent rosés and aperitifs. The cocktail menu is equally impressive. We shared cocktails, including a passion fruit cocktail that was exceptional. For food, we had the escargot appetizer, which was excellent and beautifully presented. The table setting was elegant, the ambiance cozy, and the service outstanding, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. Everything about this place was memorable. The atmosphere, the drinks, the food, the service—every detail came together perfectly. One of the best dining experiences I’ve had, and a place I will return to without hesitation.

My husband and I came for my birthday. It was a very lovely experience, our waitress was outstanding. The food was delicious. We ordered the ham and cheese croquettes to start. Our mains were the coq au vin and boeuf bourguignon. We finished the meal with the creme brulee. I had the passion fruit cocktail and my husband had the old fashioned. We loved the food! The atmosphere was nice and romantic.

3 of us went for Thanksgiving supper with high expectations as it was our first time there. Atmosphere and ambience of restaurant was neat and somewhat different but that is all we can say in terms of complimentary. We ordered mussels: came out tasting unfreshed and overcooked so we asked server to return it without consuming 80 percent if it. The second mussels dish was better but our bill showed that this order was charged twice! (See photo). We ordered salad but vegetables were not crisp and fresh at all. We ordered bouillabaisse at 34 dollars but there were only 2 shrimps, one small piece of fish and 2 mussels in this dish with an unusual sauce which was not tasty. The size of this dish was like a child’s menu portion. Our other dishes including bone marrow, escargots, frites, cheese plate were average but not above par. Server was polite and introduced the menu well but did not seem to be interested to come back to add water to our glasses. Will be thinking twice next time if we are to return to dine here again. Certainly a big disappointment!

We booked a dinner reservation for my birthday and this was our first time trying La Petit Iza. The decor is charming and romantic. We sat out on the terrace where we could enjoy the sunset and views of the valley. Our server, Marge (apologies if that's incorrect spelling) was amazing! Her energy and enthusiasm is top tier and we appreciated her candor when it came to selecting the food (the choices she recommended were delicious!) She seems very passionate about her job (and taking photos) and that is very admirable. I ordered the Passion D'amour cocktail because I am obsessed with Passionfruit, but honestly I would trust the bar tender, Ben, to make me anything. We ordered the Coq au vin, duck fat fries and Moules Marinières. All of them were delicious and decadent. I decided to order a crème brûlée (even though we could barely take another bite) and it was so creamy, full of vanilla bean flavour and the sugar top had the perfect crackle. My partner wanted an espresso martini but was too shy to ask so I brought it up to our server. She wasn't sure if it was possible but asked Ben (the bar tender). I don't think it is something they normally make and we were told the bar was too busy which was fine with us. Next thing we know, Marge brings out an espresso martini with our crème brûlée! Now THAT is going above and beyond. Thank you La Petit Iza for giving us an unforgettable dining experience! Special thanks to Marge and Ben who were the superstars of our evening. We will definitely be back!

We booked in mid week for a Bday dinner to find out our table is literally by the entrance while the whole restaurant is not even full! I was surprised by that so we stuck with it assuming it might get busy but nope… our waiter can be slow in times and he wad taking care of less then 3 tables! In same time he would just grab plates that still have food in it without checking if we are done! I have read mix reviews but i would agree the service in the place is not spot on! Food wise, a bit salty but overall good.

A truly unique French experience in Edmonton! The decor is authentic, the staff actually speaks French, and most importantly, the food is amazing! Pro tip: order a Genepi and a cream brulle to top of your dinner!

But beyond the food, what truly stood out was the entire experience. The view? WOW. Absolutely breathtaking — a true 10/10. The service was also top-notch, warm and attentive without being overbearing. And let’s talk about the vibe: the artistic ceiling and cozy atmosphere make it feel like you’ve stepped into a dreamy, stylish Parisian corner right here in Edmonton. An absolute pleasure from start to finish. Can’t wait to go back!

Classic Western European feel. Nestled in a 3 story in Garneau. Fantastic French cuisine, over looks a stunning downtown skyline. Romantic yet vibrant. Fabulous server Margot, i couldn't fully get her name because of the French accent so I hope I got it right. Her food recommendations and champagne suggestions were on point. I just wish I ordered the creme brule when I ordered the mains cause they were 86ed when it was time for dessert.

Is it possible to give more than 5 stars??? A friend and I made a reservation on a Sunday night. The service was spectacular! The server was very attentive throughout our visit, and had many specials/suggestions when we were ordering. We started with cocktails and escargot. The escargot was fantastic! For mains, we ordered the steak tartare, moules marinieres, frites and wine. Both dishes were prepared with fresh, quality ingredients. We ended our experience with espresso. The view was absolutely beautiful! I highly recommend this restaurant for a fine dining experience.

Great ambiance and great food. Servers attention to detail is fantastic. They know their menu and their wines. Steak Tartare, Bone marrow will not disappoint. Duck Confit is delicious as is their Bouillabaisse. Always enjoy an evening out here..

85 Characters to review... Pepper Steak in sauce served w/fries and Mayo?! $54 Coq Au Vin...old tasting piece of leg of chicken with a jammy syrup coating. No Button Mushrooms, No Bacon, No Pearl Onions! Crap! Husband was walked in on by a woman who was startled cause in the coed bathroom the stall's latch wasn't working! Waiter was kind but wore Nike Runners and avoided coming back to our table to do a quality check cause he knew we were upset with our meals. Had anticipated an evening again this year celebrating my husband's birthday ant this place and I/we so regret it. Ps. The French Onion Soup and Escargot were great....but noted the IKEA sticker left on under the ceramic water jug. Maybe wanna pull that off.

Lovely 3rd floor restaurant with friendly staff and a great view of the city. Would love to come here in the summer to enjoy the patio. Waitress had some helpful beverage and meal suggestions. Bouillabaisse was fantastic. Bread and butter served with it was a key and delicious component.

You have to go here! There was parking at the back of the restaurant. The restaurant entrance is tricky to find. It's next to a huge sign that says the restaurant's name on the north (more east) side of the building to get to the restaurant on the upper floor. The ambiance of this restaurant is elegant and sophisticated. The ceiling has stained glass murals. Sat by a window that looked out to the street from the second floor of the building Escargots à la Persillade - Snails with Parsley 15.00 Butter, baguette - loved how the snails were cooked. sauce was a tad bit salty Os à Moelle roti - Roasted Bone Marrow 19.00 Capers, parsley, lemon & baguette - amazing textures of crispy and fatty and acidic mixed together Steak Tartare - 34.00 Cornichon, capers, egg yolk, baguette - The baguette was crunchy. Steak was acidic and the flavour profile was overall acidic Moules à la Marinière - 26.00 Mussels, wine, shallots, garlic, butter, baguette - would order again. Drank up the sauce. Mussels were small. The baguette was nice and soft

We visited La Petite Iza on a Friday night for dinner. The place had a buzz to it as it was busy. We dressed up a little and was glad we did because the whole ambiance was on the nicer side. The food was rich and delicious, which is what I expected for French cuisine. Overall it was a great experience and we return again for a special occasion.

I had a wonderful time at La Petite Iza celebrating a special occasion. It's a perfect place for a date night or a fancy night out. Make sure to book a reservation in advance because this place is quite popular. The rooftop patio had a gorgeous view of the city skyline. Since it was cold that night though, we opted to stay inside. For food we tried: -Escargots à la Persillade $14: The escargots were large and the parsley butter paired really well -Soupe Bouillabaisse $28: Food was very flavourful and I loved the assortment of seafood -Steak Frites $38: The steak was big and juicy. Grilled perfectly to medium rare. The fries were seasoned well and crispy -Mousse au Chocolat Noir et Noisettes $10: Fantastic presentation and yummy dessert to end the meal with Service was friendly and attentive. Food came at a reasonable time. Parking is a little bit of a struggle because there's lots of construction in the area.

I came to La Petit Iza for dinner after stopping by other places in the area for years. The restaurant is located on the third floor, and the kitchen and washroom is on the second floor. The setup and decor gave me the impression of a cute European/French cafe and it was quite laid back. The view outside/balcony was really nice and would complete the experience. Note that their tables inside were definitely on the smaller side. Service was good as the server was descriptive about the menu and stopped by several times throughout the meal. In terms of food, I tried their Escargot (Snails with Persillade), Foie Gras Parfait, Parisian Gnocchi, and Duck Confit. The escargot was good as it was meaty and the parsley and butter made it quite tasty while not overwhelming. The foie gras was pretty good. It felt quite hearty and meaty on its own, so it was good there were baguettes as well as greens and cherries that accompanied it. The cherries were a decent surprise. The gnocchi was slightly altered for the summer, with zucchini, asparagus, and butter lime sauce, versus what was listed on the original menu. The gnocchi itself was quite soft, soft, and felt puffy, which was different from the more dense Italian kind. It was fairly buttery so the sauce went well with it. The change for the season was refreshing for the summer. The duck confit was really good. The meat fell apart, the skin didn't feel fatty, there was the right amount of flavour and it went well with the sauce, vegetables, and mashed potatoes. One thing to note is that both entrees felt a bit too buttery/heavy near the end, but that may be because I didn't get a drink - If accompanied by wine, I think it would be a great balance. Overall, I'd give the experience 8.5/10

Classic French dining in Garneau. We had onion soup and the foie gras terrine. Would prefer terrine smaller w more foie gras. Main course: We had Confit de canard w lentils. The lentils were perfectly flavoured w a little acid that was a counterpoint to the rich duck. The knife work on the vegetables is amazing. The tiniest cut onions ever. Desserts: A favourite seems to be pot de chocolat. We had crème brûlée w lots of real vanilla bean. Really excellent. Also pavlova w lemon curd and fresh berries. Excellent! The view is beautiful. Quite an adventure finding the entrance from the back but you can use the interior stairs from the pastry shop. Also awesome!

So we went here for snacks and most things as before were good. The service, the atmosphere, the view. we sat on the patio and ordered tartar, marrow, and mussels. Food in general was really good. But the mussels really didn't have flavour. They were cooked well but the broth was really bland. Bone marrow was okay but not outstanding. Not sure what to think. I have been here two times before and I was blown away. This time it was meh. Of course, I will give it another try but I can't say that I was thrilled with this dinner,. Stay tuned.

Cute little rooftop restaurant that opened up a short while back. The interior is very inviting and warm. They have half inside and half outside. We chose inside because it is getting cold. They have heaters on the outside part, but we noticed people still wearing their jackets. They have an ingesting cocktail list including the Negroni Blanche, which was great. The servers have a good knowledge of the alcohol menu to give suggestions. I had the asparagus and leek salad, gnocchi, and the chocolate mousse. It was all great. The salad surprised me the most. It was very fresh and I haven't eaten leeks in a while so it was a nice change. There is parking in the back, but it fills up quickly. Expect to have to drive a bit to find parking during peek times. Also, I would recommend making a reservation if you want a Friday or Saturday. We actually had to book almost two weeks in advance! Very exclusive! My only small qualm is that the tables are very tiny. I think it is to give that French vibe, but they fill up quick with just your glasses! With wine, cocktails, and water, plus a little vase, there is no room on the table for much else! The server Matteo was very friendly as well! I'm sure we will be back!

Very slow service and inferior food. This used to be a good restaurant but everything now seems to be done inattentively and cheaply. Very Disappointing.

This is one of the better fine dining options in Edmonton, in my opinion - French style food, not a huge menu but all the items I've tried have been delicious. They are on the third floor of the building that also houses the Eleanor & Laurent cafe (owned by the same people), so you walk through Eleanor & Laurent to enter, then up past the floor where the cooking happens, and on to the floor above for the restaurant. The restaurant is half indoor and half a patio which can be fully open to the air or has roll-down transparent blinds they can close if it's cold. During the summers it's a lovely place to sit "outdoors" and has a great sunset view; when it gets colder they have heaters overhead. Unfortunately, the staff don't seem to be particularly savvy about the importance of fresh air flow during the pandemic and are not proactive about keeping the blinds open a bit once the weather cools, so I can't recommend it for the covid-aware outside of summer times. However, it is well worth a visit for the food, and the waiting list reflects that - you'll definitely need to reserve ahead of time. It's also not cheap; they have good quality food and the price reflects that reasonably, I think it's correctly priced for what they serve but certainly it's a venue for a more special date night than an everyday meal. The waitress we often seem to get is also an expert at upselling by suggesting all sorts of add-ons and taste combinations (which, to her credit, she is correct are delicious, but of course each does come at a price).

We visited La Petite Iza for their Apéro hour (2-5pm) on Saturday afternoon. They don't take reservations for this time slot, but we were able to get seated right away on the patio! They have a gorgeous covered outdoor patio that overlooks the river valley and downtown. For food, we tried the Oysters, Duck Fat Pomme Frites, and the Foie Gras Mousse And Pickled Grape Tartine. All of the items were delicious but our favorite was the Foie Gras Mousse! It was so rich and silky, it was just like dining out in Paris. We really loved our visit here, it's the perfect date night location. Entry for La Petite Iza is through Eleanor Laurent on the 3rd floor. Or there is a clearly labeled door at the back of the building.

Very romantic spot for a cute date with the view of the city skyline. The service was amazing and we definitely would be back again. Be sure to take the stairs on the side on the building and not the fire escape stairs lol especially in heels. The food was magnificent. I highly recommend the escargot and the gnocchi. Those were our favorites. Roasted soft bone $19.00 Roasted bone marrow, capers, parsley, lemon and baguette. The textures together was pleasant and excellent flavour. Escargots à la Persillade $14.00 Snails with parsley butter, baguette. The meat was juicy and we loved the parsley butter on the baguette. Don't forget to spread it all over the baguette. Sooooo goood. Steak Tartare $31.00 Cornichon, capers, egg yolk, crackers, baguette. Refreshing with the capers. Delicious and great texture. It was well executed. Parisian Gnocci and Spring Vegetables $26.00 Asparagus, peas, shallots, dijon creme and goat cheese. We cleared this plate, sauce and everything. Not everyone can make a great gnocchi, this was light and fluffy. We loved the sauce that came with it. Crunchy asparagus and soft gnocchi, such a great combo.

The chef thinks I'm a moron for getting a tough ass steak. Couldn't cut it, and couldn't chew each and I thought maybe my knife was dull but no, it was pretty simple, just a tough ass steak. What does the chef say... oh it's AAA and "we tasted it and you don't know what your taking about". Our server said she found it chewy and didn't agree but the chef is' not on the business to send back food so that's that. The couple next to us had the same steak and watching her cut it looked like she needed a chainsaw. They ate about 3/4's of it and said it was chewy too but we're too nice to send it back. They pounded the rib eye out and flattened it to half inch and then quick-cooked it much too quickly. Being so thin and cooked so quickly, the fat could not render properly so it was all sinew on every bite versus cutting like butter. The worst part is they took the Steak away and when I found it was only being discounted by 50%, I was not able to get it back to so i was still hungry. French onion soup was too salty, and the gravy for the chicken was way too salty as well. The pork chop was tasty but it could have been more tender as well. It is my fault in the end, don't go to a French restaurant and order a steak as they have no clue what they doing. Appetizers and salads were solid, cocktails are awesome. Only three servers for the whole room so service was very slow. $40/bottle for wine corkage. Not worth money, they are grifters and the chefs are too pretentious.

For the food, I can't see a reason to not give 5 stars. But logistically speaking I was not in love. Accessibility is a huge concern. And I don't just mean the fact that it's three flights of stairs. Walking around the side of the building from the front, there's a pallet platform you have to walk over, and then icy and muddy walkway (no sidewalk once you reach the back) as it was in March. My main quibble though is the tiny tables and even tinier chairs. Which then leads me to the service. After being seated I asked to be moved to the bench seating as I was very uncomfortable and I was told no, because they had more reservations. The table I asked to move to was filled one hour after we arrived. After 45 mins of our waters being filled about 8 times, one of my dining companions finally asked the girl filling our water if she was a our server. Turns out she was, but she didn't know it. After that point service was good so perhaps just a small hiccup. For me, the seats are so uncomfortable I'd be very hard pressed to return. And I did submit feedback to the restaurant in response to an email asking for feedback, and heard nothing back so I suspect no changes will be made. If you are tall (6 feet plus) and/or have generous hips, I'd honestly say don't bother going. If you're fine being uncomfortable for a couple hours, then go ahead and enjoy the food.

Great atmosphere, and everything we ate was great. It is not cheap though. We had main courses and shared a bottle of wine between 4 people. It was about $100 a piece with tip. I would book ahead for a special occasion, as apparently reservations are hard to get. Food is French, or possibly Belgium. Mussels and Duck figure prominently on the menu.

This is by far one of my favourite French restaurants in the City. Small, romantic, well decorated. Reservations are recommended. They have a covered rooftop patio with a great view. You do need to walk up a couple flights of stairs to get to the venue. The food is always good, I recommend the cheese plate and the Blanche negroni. There is free street parking and the service is always outstanding.

Fantastic spot that I highly recommend! The atmosphere is very inviting with a rooftop patio overlooking Edmonton. The food was absolutely delicious, I enjoyed every bite. Our server was amazing and very hospitable. I can't wait to go back and try more. Definitely a must do!

You fooled me again Edmonton. The service is great. Friendly helpful and informative. The food? Oh, the food... French onion soup... Meh. Missing some flavour, but you know you're eating soup...I suppose. Steak & Fries. 52 bucks. Now, I'm not expecting hand brushed fries with butter, but mine were soaked in grease, and seemed like they were the left overs from the fry bin. My server even said SHE COMPLAINED about them when she ordered them before. So thats cool. Why didn't she send them back knowing they were garbage Escargot? With no bread? 13 bucks. Soaked in butter.. alright... Chicken & Potatoes. Maybe it should be called potatoes, with a piece of chicken. About 5 oz of mashed potatoes with a chicken thigh. A bit o gravy poured around the perimeter for a juxtaposition of something? Well, when me mentioned that we weren't that impressed, and we weren't interested in any dessert, they gave us creme brûlée. So they don't listen to their staff, their staff don't do anything, and they don't listen to their customers anyways. Will we return? Not even a chance.

Absolutely french cuisine and service. This fast paced restaurant delivers on quality service and divine food. We started with the escargot with baguettes to soak up the goods. A bit salty for my pallet but worth it. I ordered the mussels- more baguette for the sauce, absolutely delicious. It's a quaint place decor is appealing and the wait staff attentive. I can't wait to enjoy the patio this summer overlooking the skyline of the downtown. Superb!

Yet another wonderful evening on the roof top patio during restrictions. Well spaced tables, fresh air, and heaters ensured that the space is cozy - even with a bit of wind and light rain we were very comfortable. Marjorie was our server again, and she strives to ensure you aren't going to only have dinner, but an experience. You let her know all the dishes you are hoping to enjoy (and she will recommend), and then she works to "stage" your dinner so that it is well paced and you enjoy every dish. The menu is small, but with fresh ingredients and classically French. The cocktail and wine list is well curated with wines by the glass as well as some fantastic bottles in all price ranges. Marjorie was attentive, but did not rush us at all. The patio space is amazing, and we cannot wait to come back when the weather is nicer and they can open the retractable roof and roll up the side shades. We are also looking forward to coming for "Apero Hour" once the restrictions are lifted and we can dine out again. Michael and I would place this in our Top 10 in Edmonton for sure!

Poor food & service: The over all dining experience was very poor considering the money spent: the entre mussels we had as an appetizer were over cooked & had very little sauce in the pot ( we did complain about them), the pomme fritzs which were regular fries & not shoe string pomme fritz & then the final cooking faux paux was when the dessert came.The Creme Burle tasted very salty not sweet as it is supposed to taste. This dessert was shared amongst three of us. We did eat it because we were trying to figure out what was wrong with it. We all said it's been made with salt the texture was even grainy. We paid the bill & then decided we should say something to the waiter. She acknowledged it was made with salt although she didn't acknowledge it was an error made by the kitchen. She said she wouldn't comp us & asked us why we ate it! We asked to speak to the manager. She phoned him apparently & he didn't answer her message. This conversation went on for over 30 minutes. I've never experienced this refusal & outright obstinance to compensate a bad product in a fine dining restaurant. Especially when she knew it was a huge error & shouldn't have been served in the first place. In the end she did compensate us. We paid $400.00 plus for our meal with cocktails & wine. The cocktails we're very good by the way. One person at out table loved this restaurant & was very excited to share this dining experience with her guests. Unfortunately she won't be back & obviously will tell others not to go too.

Four of us for the bistro - drinks and dinner - had a great time. We had very attentive service, outstanding food (frites, oysters, steak tartare, gnocchi, steak frites and pavlovas), great cocktails (negroni, martini, graham). Beautiful restaurant and ceiling. Only things which would have made it perfect? : restaurant was sooooo warm (despite open air) and wondering about access for someone with limited mobility (entering & exiting and bathroom access on a different floor).

It took a while to get up the three flights of stairs to this top floor restaurant as two elderly women were ahead of us and spent 30 seconds on each step. They were out of breath when they reached the restaurant. So. Accessibility is bad. The venue was pleasant. Patterned parquet floors, a lighted ceiling, small indoor area, glass covered deck dining area, nice bar. I got the bad seat next to the knife, fork, spoon, glass, wine glass, dish, water jug, dirty dish spot and had to listen to constant clatter during the entire dining time. Eventually our server came to our table and began to speak in the oddest and 90 per cent unintelligible French accent. None of us understood what on earth she was saying but we all smiled and nodded. I hate that. The menu was also odd. A plethora of alcohol options overshadowed the menu.Very expensive to drink at La Petite Iza. It was pointless trying to find out about the beers or wine listed as no one could decipher the explanations. They do say that it is better to do a few things well instead of a lot of things half assed. I.E ..the food. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Asparagus salad sounded good. The four of us will share. Hmm. Nope. Very arty, the salad is the size of a crust of bread and maybe 3/4 of an inch in height. Very tasty. Very small. Country pate with baguette. The slice of pate is the size of a buddy burger patty. The baguette is great. We had to look for the dot of dijon mustard. Wait. Wait. Wait. wait. The sausage meal had mixed reviews...good, really good, over seasoned and greasy. Smoked mussels good. Gnocchi good. Duck fries undercooked with no apparent duck fat taste. The fellow who served us our food was unsmiling. Dining out should be a pleasant experience. Smile. Serve what is ordered in a timely and gracious fashion. Enquire if the food is being enjoyed. Fill the water glasses. Give us a reason to want to return. The food is not enough.

What a lovely place. Total speak easy, with a delicate and inviting ambiance. Went for my birthday on Apr 14 with my wife, and we sat by the window next to the patio. I believe our server's name is Mateo, who was really beyond personable, and has a stake holder mindset by genuinely caring about the restaurant and his clients. My wife had the steak frites which was cooked to perfection, which we confided in Mateo that we were so disappointed in other restaurants that constantly get the cook wrong with their steaks. Mateo talked me into the duck which I will rarely order, which was exquisite. The drinks and desert were fantastic as well. I love this place and will be back often!
