"As soon asthey see it alongthe Great Rift Valley, hiking enthusiasts want to climbMount Longonot, a dormant volcano thatlast erupted sometime in the 1860s. The name Longonot is derived from a Masai word that means "steep ridges"—fitting because the journey to the top is nearlyvertical, along deep crevices and crumbly rocks. Summiting usually takes about 1.5 hours; from the top, peer into the forest-filled crater and sit under ashaded gazebo to enjoy a picnic. If you have the energy, it’s also possible to hike the rim of the crater, but be warned:Skirting around takes roughly three hours, not including the journey back to the bottom."

Mt.Longonot is such a good place to go for hiking. Going round the rim is the most challenging part but definitely rewarding. I would highly advise one to wear good hiking shoes, sun hat and carry plenty of water

Way overpriced for a simple hike. Mount Longonot charges 55 USD just for a hike, which is far too expensive for what you get. The trail itself around the crater is nice, but it’s absolutely not worth this price. I would not pay that much again to do this hike

As a welcome there's a table with some goons around it, who demand to search your backpack so they can confiscate your personal property -- water bottles. Since obviously why would you bring water to climb a mountain. They do this under the guise of "keeping trash off the mountain". Then they force you to buy their own "reusable" plastic bottles. AS IF I CAN'T THROW THOSE ON THE MOUNTAIN... Then they demand $55 paid through their shitty website just to climb a mountain. This whole country is a scam.

One of the best hiking experiences near Nairobi.

Dear community, I think this needs to stop. You pay 60 bucks (entry fee, processing fee, tips) for the privilege Of Stepping On A Mountain. It's an okay mountain/crater - don't get me wrong, on par with many like this all around the globe, and a far cry from Hawaii craters... The problem is that you absolutely don't see what you pay for. Lousy WC at the entrance (no toilet paper, no soap, broken appliances, filthy and stenchy)... no WC anywhere on the mountain, slippery slopes, no railings - people can and do fall inside the crater... 60 bucks (easily 150 with transportation) to step on a mountain. This is a scam, but it will continue as long as crowds arrive. Longonot is fine, and it is an okay hike for 5 USD, however, it's not 5. Avoid please.

What an experience! My fiancé and I conquered Mt. Longonot together. The views from the crater rim are unreal. A must-do if you're in the area
