Tempura Takeover

This was our first time visiting the place and I must say I was blown away by the presentation of every dish that came out from there. It is located in a gas station and I had no clue a gas station food can looked not only good but also taste good. Everything is made fresh from scratch so it takes some time but oh boy I should definitely give it to them everything was spot on, from seasoning to freshness to presentation. People might find it little expensive for a gas station food. But you should also get what kind of protein you are getting. The dish I ordered was tempura luxe with bun and sunny side up on top. The bread was nicely toasted in butter and the smell of butter was there on every bite of the bread. The protein was well cooked. Then came the sunny side up on top. Wow it was delight to watch and even more delightful to eat. Standing up to their tag line “Sophisticated Street Eatery”. Definitely recommended and will come back for sure.

Was in town visiting family and my mom had to take me to her favorite spot! Donna, who runs this cart, is so friendly and helpful! All the food we ordered came out hot and fresh and beyond delicious. 15/10 would come back every time I’m in town!

OMG!!! I flew all the way from Georgia just to try this! The food was AMAZING!!! I had the shrimp tacos, let me tell you- the shrimp were LARGE and deveined, not over cooked. You could taste the freshness. I also had the shrimp toast basket with rice and egg. This combo was so freaking good. That takeover sauce -OMG, I’ll definitely purchase a bottle of this sauce next time. I mixed the takeover sauce with the wasabi sauce and loved it. The customer service was extremely welcoming. I could tell the food is made with love!! I cannot wait to see the owners’ future. I know there will be a restaurant coming next. This food is ABSOLUTELY amazing!

Amazing food! And yes it's in a gas station with the most friendly people! Seriously! Donna is the best, so kind. Food is always fresh and delicious.

Delicious food ran by a owner with great enthusiasm! The food is worth the price and the wait. This place deserves to take over that gas station. The food is just as good as it looks. It's hard to believe food this great comes out of a gas station. Literally I can't wait to go back.

This is our go to take out restaurant. We had the shrimp tacos and the shrimp bowl, which are both sooo good! It's inside of the gas station which is clean and convenient. I love the fact that we get to support a local, small, startup business and get delicious food in the process.

The two ladies working here tonight were so sweet and awesome!! We pulled up not realizing it was a food truck so we felt a little bad giving them a rush with a group of us, but the food was a-m-a-zing! A small menu but a killer one for sure. I had the Alaskan Cod and it was a little messy with the sauce so make sure you grab napkins and enjoy ☺️

I've been wanting to try Tempura Takeover for years. Last night the stars aligned and we made it to the pop up at Hair of the Dog. I had high expectations. Tempura Takeover did not disappoint. We ordered outside at the food truck and they brought the food into the bar. I got the sloppy lobster burger. Hubby got two bulgogi tacos and a side of fries. There were no prices on the menu, but the total without tip was $48. My lobster burger was divine--chunks of tempura lobster, perfectly, cooked. I'm not going to guess what was in either sauce but they were both excellent and made the dish. Fries were solid. Downsides, it was about a 30 minute wait, which was clearly communicated. We got there about 5 minutes after open and there was a small line. There's probably strategy to make it go faster--get there at open or 30 to 45 minutes after. Food seemed to come out fast after the initial rush. Also, i would have liked ketchup as an option for the fries.

That shrimp taco is fantastic!! Tempura Takeover is now a food truck. They post their locations on https://tempuratakeover.com/ I'm not a big fan of a lot of sushi or fusion sauces so was asking about the Takeover sauce. Ahdana, the owner, clearly took pride in the sauce and offered me a sample. I was gearing up to politely say it's not for me but I actually loved it! I would buy a bottle to have at home if I could. (hint: need this in stores!) I got the shrimp taco and the bulgogi taco. The shrimp taco was my favorite! The shrimp was cooked perfectly, and there was plenty of it. The tempura had a great crunch and the sauce was just the right amount of spicy. It's definitely on my top tacos list and I'll be popping by whenever I can. I'm already craving it again!

This place is like finding the pearl in an oyster! That's what Tempura Takeover is for moi! After trying this owner operated business three years ago inside a gas station we finally found her again! While in the area we were using Yelp and spotting her hours and her present location was nearby. In her own food truck, Donna and her assistant prepare each entree with care and detail. Seeing the menu prices at first, you may wonder if it is a good value. Try it once. The sloppy lobsta roll is steep at $27. Lightly friend lobster comes on a toasted brioche bun accompanied by tater tots sprinkled with a Japanese nori spice or crinkle fries. It's very good but my fave is the dynamite shrimp bowl at $14. It is a deal and delicious! The combination of spicy crab meat, crispy shrimp, avocado on Jasmine rice topped with sesame seeds and THE sauce. It's my favorite lunch! Don't let the prices scare you off, try it and if you're like me, you'll become a fan!

Deconstructed sushi bowl? Yes, please! We stumbled across Tempura Takeover's food truck at Trevors on McDowell Rd. We had no idea what to expect but we were curious to try something from their menu because of their IG photos. We decided to try the Dynamite Shrimp Bowl & it was fantastic. They take a little minute to prepare their meals, but the presentation is worth it. The crab meat and avocados were so fresh. The tempura was lightly battered so it wasn't overwhelming with the rice. Everything married so well together - It was delicious!

We got there 25min before posted close time and they said they were closing up already. Disappointing since we came across town to try it.

Came here twice - the first time they didn't have any lobster left. The service is friendly. Everything seems to be fried to order as the food comes out really hot. I've tried the shrimp fries ($16), shrimp toast ($10), lobster roll ($24), and the lobster fries ($21). They don't have any drinks so make sure to bring your own or you'll have to buy it at the concession nearby the golf range. The amount of shrimp/lobster in the food isn't a lot but it's enough to be satisfied although I wish more would've been put in. The shrimp toast especially was pretty good in its ratio. Everything is fried very well and the sauce is tasty as well. Overall, the food is very pricey, but I could see it being worth it once in a while. I would definitely recommend the shrimp over the lobster. I think something like lobster can stand on its own well and doesn't need to be fried as the flavor gets covered up. The shrimp can hold up well to being fried and it's cheaper as well.

Been eating Tempura Takeover since she started at a Gas station. I say since day 1!! Service: always cheery, smiling, and great person to chat with. Food: man oh man! From the shrimp tempura tacos, lobster tempura tacos, the Wasabi fries with both shrimp and lobster tempura, and the bulgogi bowl - worth the wait, worth the follow!

All I can say is WOW!! I had the dynamite shrimp bowl and it was outstanding! It took about 30 minutes to get my food, but it was very much worth the wait ! The food was piping hot, the tempura shrimp was so perfectly crispy, and the sauce on top was the crown jewel. I will most definitely be back. I really hope to see this place become a permanent restaurant.

This is the best food I've ever had. I'm not exaggerating. I'm in love. Ahdana and Laney not only had the food out within 10 minutes of our order but also were so friendly and hospitable during the whole process. Literally the best food truck you'll find in AZ. They we're at the festival of nations this past weekend in Glendale, at the Tanger Outlets, wow! Absolutely the best shrimp, crab, avocado bowl, I've had ever! I can't wait for the festival next year! I promise not to eat any tempura anywhere else, ever again! Great job and I can't wait until next year!

Couldn't agree more with the previous reviews. Sloppy lobsta roll was amazeballz. Service was fast and friendly and owner/chef Donna was extremely kind and helpful (she even posed with my food for the obligatory Yelp pic ). I also tried the spicy tots which really just had a touch of heat and weren't terribly spicy. They were also awesome. Can't wait to go back! Also, don't you think Donna should open a sit-down restaurant in the Mesa/Gilbert area?!

This gem is located inside the store of a gas station. But the quality of food and the way the food is presented is really too good! Can call it as good as a gourmet restaurant. As a vegetarian I didn't find anything on the menu hence 4 stars. They have the tempura avocado but it wasn't available when I went in. However, the lobster luxe ordered by my husband was delicious (his comments). Their presentation is beautiful and we are definitely returning for him and hopefully they add some vegan/vegetarian options by the time we visit next!

This place is so unique & different! You will not regret any of the choices you make as every item on the menu is extremely delicious!! Everything is perfectly made and the combinations are just so incredible! I can't wait to go back!

Tempura Takeover never misses! We came right at opening on Saturday and ordered the Dynamite Shrimp bowl, cleos shirmp roll, and the lobster fries. All 3 items packed with flavor. We try to try something different each time but we always have to reorder the lobster fries. Dynamite shrimp bowl comes with rice, dynamite shrimp, crab mix, slices of avocado and topped with sesame seeds. Something I wish I could eat for lunch every day! Cleos Shrimp roll is packed with lighted fried shrimp with dynamite sauce on top of a Hawaiian bun. Super delicious and she does not skimp out on the shrimp. Lobster fries full of umami and you just have to tried it yourself! Lobster came with an abundance lightly fried and mixed all together with the fries. Our staple each time we visit.

I visit from CA regularly and when I come to AZ, one of my biggest gripes is that the ethnic food just isn't the same as home. I'm especially surprised that there aren't many good Asian fusion places. With that being said, this place is IT! We got the sloppy lobsta roll, crispy shrimp tacos, and Tokyo shrimp fries. The sloppy lobsta roll came with some seasoned tater tots. I generally don't care for tots, but these were perfectly fried and seasoned. I also am not the biggest lobster type of guy because sometimes the taste of lobster is too strong (I prefer crab because it's sweeter), but it was perfect! The consistency of the roll was super soft as well! The crispy shrimp tacos were so good as well. I'd probably consider the shrimps to be prawns because of the size of these things! Lastly, the Tokyo shrimp fries.. I LOVE fries and am such a critic when it comes to them. But these fries may go down as some of my favorite fries of ALL TIME. It also has the jumbo shrimp included. What also really made all 3 of these dishes super delicious is the SAUCES that they use. If y'all want some bomb Asian fusion food, this place is seriously it. Enough said.. Great service.. If you guys come across Dana, tell her Andy sent you. Thank you, Dana for providing the MUCH NEEDED Asian fusion food fix! We'll definitely be back... I would've posted pics of the delicious food but it didn't last long enough. Lol!

Based off the reviews I bet this place is amazing. However I'm convinced it doesn't exist. We've driven out of our way twice to try it out and both times it's been closed. Both times they've had their hours listed as open on their website and both times I've called and the I've got the message they cannot except calls

Tempura Takeover has simply became my favorite spot! It's located inside a mobile gas station but definitely do not let that deter you. You will be missing out. If I was not on a diet for my wedding, I would literally live here. Ahdana's food is just amazing. I told her this many times but her homemade sauces (takeover and garlic sauce) is what I dream about. You can order anything on the menu and know your food will taste out of this world! She does not skimp on the food either, the rolls and the tacos always come overflowing with lobster. Her togarashi tots are on point! Sometimes there is a wait but let me tell you, the wait is worth it! And especially if you think about it, Ahdana always makes the food fresh so you know she cares and it definitely translates in her food. She is such an amazing person, always smiling and welcoming. Definitely worth every penny.

What Donna has created is soooo cool. Donna the owner told me that she decided to go on a limb and create her own business. The concept is so elevated especially that it is served in a gas station, which to me is so cool. She is passionate about her food, service, and even told me she was planning a trip to Japan to further expand her love of Tempura my kind of owner. I ordered the Sloppy lobster fries with egg-Every single component was cooked perfectly and bursting with flavor! For me because I prefer my seafood just grilled or steamed after a few bites it became too rich for me. But if fried/tempura is your thing you will loose your mind. Best of luck Donna, you rock!

Not your average gas station fare! Tempura takeover is a fun mix of tempura mixed with seafood and Dana, the owner is always trying something new. Located inside the Mobil gas station, Tempura takeover makes gas station food everywhere shake in their boots. From the amazing lobsta luxe with a Hawaiian bun, lemon garlic aioli, tempura fried lobsta and fried egg on top to the shrimp fries with her amazing sauce, it will blow you away! Tempura takeover originally started doing festivals. Keep an eye out because they do all kinds of special foods like tempura fried crab on stick but those are limited to festival gatherings so make sure to follow their social media to keep in the loop. So far I have tried their lobsta fries, dried crab, lobsta luxe and every single time I was blown away! the prices are extremely fair for seafood in arizona and all the lobsta is brought in from Maine. I'm sharing this secret gem with you because I feel like you deserve to know where one of my favorite seafood joints is!

I love this place. The food is excellent. The rice is different than most as it is perfectly cooked. The service is great as well. Now I have to come here at least once a week to get the dynamite shrimp which is outstanding. Come here you will be happy!

AhDonna keeps getting things right and you can tell that by the volume she is doing. I arrived around 7 PM and she was 5 customers deep, waiting for their orders. She now has help but is still busy. I decided to try the Sloppy Lobsta Tater Tots. Everything was cooked to perfection, the tots were golden brown and dusted with some togorashi and tempura lobster. She then added her house sauces and dressed with onions, herbs and she even gave a some spicy crab meat, as a bonus. It was the bomb!!! She just keeps putting it down. No matter how busy she is, she is always smiling, friendly and professional. I'm telling you , check it out...so worth it.

Crispy Tempura Shrimp and Spicy Crab Meat served over seasoned crinkle-cut Fries. Finished w/micro herbs, sesame seeds, red onions EEL & Takeover sauce. This is seriously one of the best things I have ever eaten. It was just yesterday, 2018, I saw a post from @gilbertmarket and knowing I had to check out @tempuratakeover. I was hooked! Great people! Great food! then in 2019, I was super excited to hear they had a pop up inside Mobile gas station. Food was still amazing. Fresh cooked to order. Loaded with flavor. Who would have thought you could find seafood in a gas station?! And here we are now in 2021 @greenfieldlakes with their very own food truck!!! Still killing it! Can't wait to come back for some more delicious stuff next time. check them out! You won't regret it!! Tuesdays they only have tacos, but they should really call them flavor bombs!! Been wanting to try this place. Seen it popped up on my Facebook. We went to the truck stand at the Greenfield Golf Course. There were outside seatings. Food took a little awhile but you know they made it with care. The sauce was what made all the dish. Definitely a lot of attention put into making these dishes. Probably won't be coming often but it was very neat to try at least once and every so often.

First off, Donna is such a sweet chef/owner, and everything we tried was amazing. You can tell she puts a lot of work on what she does. We got the sloppy lobsta roll and soft shell crab burger w/ spicy tater tots. It's a bit messy to eat but definitely worth it. Definitely coming back to try out other items on the menu!

Look at a place and judge and you will miss out the the tastiness inside -me 2019 This place is in a gas station and if you can't look past that you don't deserve the amazing hands of ahdana as she makes magic happen with all the great smells that reminds you of how it felt when you sat in your moms kitchen as she cooked. I've tried almost every item in the menu and I can tell you none of it is disappointing. From the simpleness of the tots to the extravagant lobster luxe; each item is made with care and joy that comes with good food. My only recommendation is that you get one of everything and get extra takeover sauce on the side . Ps thank you for the great food

Don't let the location fool you (inside of gas station). This might be the best lobster roll I've ever had. AND ITS IN PHOENIX???? The Japanese flavor in a northeast American package. Everything about this place is unbelievable. You are doing yourself a great disservice by skipping this place if you're in the area. Absolutely incredible

Tempura Takeover is amazing, incredible service, fast and delicious food. The fusion concept with seafood is great. My wife and I can't wait to come back and try more dishes. The Lobsta roll and Tokyo shrimp fries were amazing!

This place is so special because the owner/chef, Donna is such a wonderful person who seems to enjoy what she does. You can tell she puts a lot of love into each dish! I got the soft shell crab sandwich and oh man, to die for. You know how most places are too shy with the best things... well, I definitely can say that this place did not do that! Donna puts so much thought in each food item that I may crave this place everyday. We will definitely be back and don't hesitate to try this place!

Super small "closet" inside a gas station convenient store. Owner is an artist at work, won't sacrifice quality by rushing. Food takes a little bit of time but definitely worth the wait. Very crispy and light yet, due to large portions, very satisfied when all Is said and done. Hidden gem in a convenient store in the middle of AZ!!

I was glad to see this place is back in business. I stopped by when it was located in a Mobil gas station and now the chef has returned in a food truck at a new location in Gilbert. The owner is so friendly, as we talked about living in S.CA before she moved to AZ. The lobster and shrimp dishes are well worth the price and worth an evening drive as the hours are limited to nights. That's what people love about food trucks!

I stumbled across Tempura Takeover one day on Instagram and had to check them out! I was greeted by the AMAZING chef & owner Donna! Tempura Takeover offers a variety of options from tempura shrimp tacos to lobsta rolls! My favs are definitely the Tokyo Shrimp Fries & the Sloppy Lobsta Roll! The fries are fully loaded with Tempura shrimp, teriyaki sauce, and the signature Takeover sauce! The lobsta roll is also AMAZING! The Hawaiian roll is so buttery and soft! I honestly could go on all day but you have to try for yourself you won't regret it! Grab your #TakeoverCrew and head in today!!

So I wanted to check this place place out because of all the great reviews. They are located on this golf course in a food truck. The lady taking my order was SUPER nice. I got the Lobster Roll. It was absolutely delicious!! The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is the price. It was a bit overpriced from that I was hoping. But overall, awesome place, worth a try!

Wow, this is a tough one! AhDonna, Lovely woman, chef and owner. Very nice to talk with, and answered all my questions about her operation. Ordered the lobsta roll, and shrimp fries. First off... On approaching the counter, a young woman sitting at the register looked at me, the only customer and gave a look of disgust and walked away, presumably to get the owner. Not doing you any favors, Ma'am! Lobster roll was good, but $18 is just out of most people's budget for a sandwich. I had the tater tots with it, large portion, but so spicy I could only eat a few. Not down grading for that, just personal taste. Shrimp fries were good, crinkle cuts with nice shrimps on top. Good, but not something I could live without. Here's the problem. The owner is cooking home style, which doesn't necessarily translate to counter take out. Each part of each order is prepared individually, creating a very slow process. My simple order took over 20 minutes. People behind me were told to expect 30 minutes. Looking at other Yelp reviews, I can't help think the reviews are overinflated for sentimental reasons other than a realistic evaluation. We would all like to see this Charming lady succeed, hopefully, honest evaluation will help!

YUMMM!! I saw this place on Yelp a few weeks ago, and am so glad we finally made it in this past weekend. We ordered the special (shrimp burger & lobster roll) with fries and some spicy tots. So, so good! Get extra sauce if you can!!! The woman who owns the place also makes the food and runs the counter. She is so sweet and informative. We had no idea what we wanted and she took the time to walk us through the whole menu in addition to her most popular items. Don't let the fact this is in a Mobil steer your away. In fact, this Mobil in particular carries more variety in soda and random candy then I've ever seen. Haribo Smurf Gummies, anyone?! Definitely worth a look around while waiting for your food, grab a fountain drink for your food and you're good to go!!

This little joint is bomb don't underestimate the fire food here just because it's in a gas station. Everything is Quality, made to order food, made with care. The woman working was super nice and down to earth. The selection of food is amazing with so many options to choose from. They have lobster fries that my girlfriend and I tried, the lobster cooked to perfection and the fries perfectly fried, not to hard or soggy, the sauce that was used was like a spicy mayo and it was a perfect combination with the fries. Can't wait to go back !

Go to this place. Order anything on the menu. You will not be disappointed. I took the fam jam - am I using that right? - and everyone loved it. My teenage son was in full "mean-ager" mode and wolfed down his lobster tacos without so much as an eye roll. My daughter who "hates avocados" every time I try to make her avocado toast ordered the tempura avocado bowl, and loved it! Still scratching my head as to why she ordered it in the first place, but parenting is hard :) My wife got the dynamite shrimp bowl and it was a homerun. The last meal I picked was a huge let down, so this one was a make or break for me, and i totally redeemed myself. I got the sloppy lobster roll with spicy tots. Ummm yeah....totally lit (now I am getting the eye roll from my kids). Great spot, fantastic owner, and cannot recommend it enough. Go now.

My husband and I shared the lobster fries (takeover fries) and let me just say, my mind was blown. The flavors were amazing and the portion was perfect for two people. If I'm gonna be honest, I was not expecting much when my husband told me it was located in a gas station. The woman, who does everything from taking your order to cooking the food, was very sweet. She told us that she even concocted the sauces herself. I'm certain that she will be successful after tasting her food. I'm already looking forward to trying something else next time!! Don't sleep on this place!!

I had the Dynamite Shrimp Bowl. Several large, plump shrimps covered in a sweet, tangy sauce with shredded artificial crab meat and chunks of avocado over a bed of rice. It's located in a Mobil gas station which doesn't have much seating except for the lone picnic table outside.
