Well shucks, with my latest, I’m now up to 10 pair of Heritage boots. And I honestly could not recommend this boot store more highly. The quality of the boots and customer service are exceptional. Kimber is a gem and a friend! … I’ve shopped and owned good quality cowboy boots since I was a teenager and Heritage are like nothing you’ll find in a normal boot store. The materials are of highest quality, the fit is glove like, the designs reference vintage styles with modern updates. … Above all is the fit. You can buy lower cost boots, and not wear them because they’re uncomfortable, or you can invest a few bucks to own boots you’ll happily wear through airports because they’re the most comfortable and best looking footwear you own. I get the nicest compliments on my boots from the security screeners at Heathrow. Honestly, save money and buy better boots from Heritage. Your feet will thank you and your friends will be green with envy! Cheers!

Beautiful, handmade boots, and excellent service. I casually stopped in to try on western boots for my first time. Donovan was very helpful and professional. He provided me with recommendations on style and the perfect fit. I ended up buying the Dora Lee boots because I fell in love with them immediately. They were so comfortable and unique, and exceptional in quality. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Austin. I’m hooked. Heritage is the best!!

I needed just the right pair of boots for an upcoming event. I shopped all the usual suspects and was disappointed as usual in available quality and selection. I left a popular boot store on South Congress empty handed and disappointed and remembered one of my favorite pairs of boots was from Heritage Boot Co just a couple of blocks away. I headed down there and was immediately assisted by very friendly and knowledgeable staff. They helped me try on nearly every boot in the store before I finally settled on the one that had caught my eye first. It was another excellent experiences Heritage Boots. Beyond the great service and premium options, one of the best part about buying Heritage boots is that neither pair that I own required any break-in. They immediately felt great on my feet and never rubbed or pressed wrong. Incredible quality worth every penny. My second pair of Heritage Boots will definitely not be my last.

LOVE this place. They have the best selection of super cool boots. I’ve collected cowboy boots my whole life and this is going to be hard to resist. We also loved the lily Koi event you had here. So fun.

Function and then form, boy do they deliver both. Rolled leather soles, lemonwood pegs, and hand-tooled shafts. That amazing leather smell that engulfs you as you open the door. The exceptional “Boot Mavens” and experts at fashion, function, and fit. This is where you come from true “Austin” boots. This ain’t Dallas or Houston. Those in the know, know that Heritage is the top tier of non-custom boots.

Awesome and friendly staff. Kimber and the team took the time to make sure I was able to see what I wanted and properly fitted. They welcome folks to hang out for a bit over a beer, and we just chatted about boots and music. I'm definitely stopping in again on my next trip to Austin.

Awesome, handmade boots. A Great Quality product!! Be sure and take money with you! These boots are luscious and you will not be able to window shop without buying! Seriously. High end, artistic pieces here! Only 2-3 of each boot are made. If you want to be the only 2 to 3 people in the world wearing your favorite boots....this is the place! The bows are made of silk. Unique crafted items for bandanas, etc. The staff are so nice. Thank you for a great experience!

Just an excellent experience. Brought friends from Zurich and they went home with 3 pairs of boots. No rush. Just great attention and assistance.

Visited Austin on a quick 24 hour trip, fell in love with a pair of boots from Heritage... the owner explained the vintage design and was very helpful. I was impressed but not ready to pull the trigger on the purchase. I grabbed a business card and after thinking about the boots for too long gave them a ring and they everything handled effortlessly. Excellent customer service and my boots are gorgeous.

I went into Allen boots first and the service was so shitty. I couldn't believe it but then I got here and it was even worse. What's wrong with you Texas? We come all the way here from California to get some decent boots and you can't even say hello. What can I do to help you? Can I fit these boots for you? What the is wrong with you? You should be ashamed.

Updating my original review to share that one year later, I still ADORE the first pair I bought and to say that I went back to Austin for a very quick work trip. I went directly to Heritage from the airport! This special little spot just keeps getting better and better. The moment you walk inside you smell the lovely scent of quality leather....you hear fun vibe tunes (I think Johnny Cash was on when I first arrived) and you're greeted and cared for by super cool people who just want you to love your experience in their shop. Amazing selection of truly unique boots. They are simply gorgeous. Like little pieces of art conceptualized and executed by true craftspeople who love what they do. My only complaint is that there were so many to choose from....so....um......I may have gotten...3 more.....and I am so happy to have them. I know they will just get better with age and wear. I love this place, thé people, thé location...and of course the AMAZING boots. P. S. I think the first four pics are from 2022 and the rest are from earlier this week.

I have two boots from them. They are sexy and beautiful and expensive. But damn, the quality is ridiculously good. And they are so helpful. One pair had a tiny bit of string rubbing on my calf and hurting. They fixed it after a year. They gave inserts for when I wore my boots with thin socks. I love them.

I visited Heritage Boots last weekend to select my 1st pair of boots. The salesperson (can't remember his name but he works the comedy circuit at night) was awesome. He asked a bunch of questions and after trying on a few pairs, I picked some out that I've been very happy with. I walked out the store with them and haven't looked back. They are so much more comfortable than I thought and they look like they will hold up well. Really appreciate a place like this that will take the time to help someone find exactly what is needed. Note that these are not inexpensive boots so if you are not looking for quality you might want to skip this place.

Great staff and great boots. Having read through reviews before writing mine it's interesting to see either five stars or one star and none of the one stars seem to have bought or worn the boots. All I can say is the these days unique 'old school' personal service is much appreciated by myself. I certainly appreciated the assistance in finding the right size, the buttery feel of the boots, the styling and the long term comfort and wearability has been superb. After my first visit to the store I'd have liked to have gone back, thought sadly was not able, and yes the wait for a pair the I fancied that wasn't in stock was long. But don't we say good things come... I'd like to thank all the staff for staying in touch, sharing dog stories as I waited and now just completing my first purchase by phone. Yes I'd still love to visit but I'm not missing out on the pair I've been waiting for. The first pair I had were the black shark and to-date they show no wear on the shark at all. That stuffs tough, and I'm certain they could take it, but they look so good I can't bring myself to wear them when simply 'knocking about'. Pair two on the way, rough-outs intended to be beaten into submission.

The ONLY place to go for authentic boots! The mavens in there are so kind and you can really tell how much care goes into every single pair. I've never seen a store show so much pride in their products and deservingly so!

Always thought this place sold foo foo boots but I was wrong. My wife ditched me and I wondered where she was and realized she was in here. I walk in and see boots galore. Some did look fancy like where would never wear on a ranch cleaning a pig pen, but for the dance floor or out on the town, yes. There were a bunch of tourists in here and squeezed my way to the back to see a huge guy, a celebrity - who knows, modeling some cowboy boots in front of a crowd. I scooted next to him to get to a shelf of boots and very good looking lady sitting down gave a weird look. They did not look mafia so did not worry. This place makes their own boots and even will make custom boots to fit your feet. Seems like they are only made with ostrich and cow. They said they don't do any reptiles since they do not hold up well. They have very nice boot designs and interested in a pair. Unfortunately was not ready right now to get a new pair since I was busy exploring new sights on South Congress. The staff is very professional and answered all of my questions. The price of the boots is much higher but your what you get. They did look like well made boots and have to decide on these or another maker.

I have been a long time fan of Heritage and will stand by them as the only place I would take my boot business. Yes, they don't want you to walk in there and man handle their boots or slop your Starbucks all over their store while taking selfies. If it pretentious to expect folks to have manners, then you should get me in touch with your mom so we can talk about how you were raised. But back to the boots! Jerry's designs are uniquely beautiful and sold in small runs which is why buying a pair there means you aren't going to see them all over the place. I have several pairs and have never once suffered break in time. I wear them for eight hours shifts at work and still love them at the end of the day. This is not the case for boots I bought back in the day at Allen's. I have learned my lesson about buying big brand boots names which are mass produced. I just received the Tabitha bootie for Christmas and couldn't be happier! The leather is so soft and the lacing and tooling is gorgeous. The sassy zipper on the inside of the ankle pushes them over the edge and I'm in love! I adore the retro yet modern vibe of my boots and can't wait to wear them tomorrow! I feel like when I was little and got new shoes and loved them so much I would have worn them to bed if my mom had let me. If you like prefer well crafted over mass produced, and have a good eye for design, get yourself down to Heritage cause you won't regret it!

Saw a couple YT videos on customers who visited here and came to check it out on a recent trip to Austin. Wow, was I glad I did! Their boots are simply amazing, and while I'd already bought a pair at another store earlier in my trip, there was no way I could walk out without getting these. Super helpful, friendly service, could've hung out in this cool store for hours. Won't be my last pair of Heritage boots!!!

We popped into this lovely boot shop spontaneously as we were visiting Austin. The place was so fun and amazing and the staff was so great that my wife ended up buying a pair of cool boots. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

If you're a pretentious a--- then this shop is perfect for you. If not, don't even bother. I love boots and own way too many pairs but can't resist getting more whenever I see something unique. I thought I'd hit the jackpot when I walked into this shop and saw a pair with cute horses that I immediately walked over and started examining with delight. I was in the store all of 30 seconds when the employee told me not to touch the boots. She was polite enough but it was the type of polite that comes with undertones of "I don't trust you not to mess these up and you don't look like you could afford to buy them anyway." Don't judge people by how they look. I might be in jeans and a t-shirt but I could afford anything in the store and I might have bought something if my first 30 seconds weren't spent being scolded by the staff. I get it, you don't want people messing things up. How about "Hey, how's it going? Welcome to the store! We'd love to show you everything but we'd prefer to take the boots off our shelves ourselves, so let me know if you want to see any." That's how I would expect you be spoken to if you want a customer to enjoy your store. Simply being told not to touch without as much as a hello and within 20 seconds of entering the store is a perfect way to get me to walk out immediately and come to yelp to leave a negative review. Congratulations! It takes a lot for me to leave one star.

I want to thank the ladies that helped me pick out my boots to reminded me of my trip to Austin. They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I thought I would be searching all day. With a few quick questions they were able to pinpoint the best style and size for me. If you're looking for top quality, unique styles so you don't see yourself coming and going definitely go to Heritage Boot. It's such a pleasure to shop in a specialty store when the staff Is well educated and ready to help. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Austin and in need of another pair of boots.

My second pair of Heritage just turned 3, my first 5. They're both only getting better with age, the thing is with the Black Sharks, which I wear 5X more than my Apaches, IS THEY DON'T AGE! They still look amazing even after all these years, miles, and TX dancehalls. This pair is responsible for multiple friends purchasing Heritage. I have client's stopping me in my place of employment asking where I got these they're so dang sharp! Don't waste the money buying something that will start flaking, cracking, or disintegrating in under 2 years but cost the same. These are the real deal and heirloom quality. (My wife owns 3 pairs as well; The Palomino, The Enid, and a suede/turquoise Pair of which I can't recall the name.) To top it all off, the level of customer service we receive each time we're in Heritage is hands down some of the best I've experienced, even when we're just browsing and not purchasing. Don't skip this little gem when in Austin! *Also, EXTREMELY COVID AWARE & RESPONSIBLE REGARDING SAFETY*

Visiting from California and I must say this is by far the most snarky customer service I have ever experienced. I can understand their policies of no photos and get why they don't let people handle the boots, to keep them in perfect condition.. however the way they give that message to someone who has not seen the signs yet, or just walks in, is COMPLETELY rude. They could have a much more polite way of saying it instead of having such attitude. Or maybe mention it softly as soon as people come in..? Anyway...Someone in our group went to take a photo and was quickly reminded of the no photo policy and she put her phone away.. However there was a woman who walked in at the same time as us. She was struck with such awe that she went to take a photo and was quickly snapped at with, "Ma'am, We DON'T allow photos as I clearly just said, and you can see the signs!" She snapped her head around and was so caught off guard, she did NOT hear her when she told us and didn't see the signs right off the bat. Your eyes go directly to the boots! It would have been fine if the sales woman was not so condescending and rude. We actually most likely would have stayed and purchased something if she hadn't been. We even had some locals over hear us while we were walking away from the shop talking about how shocked we were with their customer service. They chimed in and we were told it happens there all the time! We were then referred to a couple other places that had MUCH better customer service and guess what.. We ALL got boots.

BLASPHEMY! How the hell are there no reviews for this place? Sometimes y'all make me disgusted. Bah! Heritage Boot makes their own boots of the fancy dress cowboy variety. I've never bought any but I would love to own some and if I ever get proposed to I fully intend, as a proud native Texan woman should, to come here and special order some pretty white boots with snakeskin on the toe and butterflies or yellow roses or Texas Stars on the side and maybe a couple of rhinestones along the heel. The boots for sale here are lovingly handmade and gorgeous and you can just tell that a lot of heart went into each pair. I think if you wore some to the Broken Spoke they'd be the talk of the bar all night. Lovely lovely boots. Cute store. Lots of love from the owners who seemed like genuine, nice people. The guy I met did at least. The homemade boots I saw today seem to be about in the $300-$500 range which isn't bad at all for wearable art. Heritage also sells old ornate western shirts and belt buckles - stuff like that. Also, this store is on 8th between Colorado and Congress now, across from the municipal building and catty-corner to the Federal Court so if you're ever in the area you should go check them out.

Love my red boots!!!! I was guilty of picking up the boots without asking bc I missed the sign. I was mesmerized by the beautiful boots. Fortunately, I wasn't given attitude. My fiancé told me that I wasn't supposed to touch the boots bc of the signs. Lol The girls were very helpful. I came to the store 3 times before I was able to pick a pair for now. :D. Thanks for being patient, understanding and not pushy. I like to think and research before I buy anything. Especially when quality is very important to me. I tried on some boots at other stores; however, they did not feel so good like when I put on the heritage boots. I bought my first pair of boots today. Love them! I believe that for the quality, the price point is a deal.

I now own 14 pairs! Of boots by Heritage! Two more pairs arrived today, one for me, one for my wife! The Mavens got our sizes perfectly. As a wearer and collector, and as someone who has had boots all his life, these are the prettiest, most comfortable cowboy boots I've ever worn. Whether I'm in the store in Austin or quarantined on my couch, I know I'm buying boots that will last a lifetime! And get compliments every time!!! Going back to Austin after the summer, can't wait to spend more in the store!!

This place is like a museum for boot lovers. It makes sense that they sat don't touch. You wouldn't walk up to a Picasso or a Gauguin and paw them, would you? I am a NYC girl and have (almost) no need in my wardrobe for a pair of cowboy boots. However, I am seriously thinking of adapting my wardrobe and lifestyle to incorporate a pair of heritage boots. They are gorgeous, customizable. My favorites are the Flores and the tupelo honey. Can't wait to get back to Austin and get a pair.

Heritage Boots is a little slice of heaven. Seriously, just walking in and smelling all of that leather, and letting your eyes wander past all of their colorful and intricately designed boots -it's like therapy. I own two pair. The Patty (named for the owner), which is a tall, fancy black boot. I've worn them to so many work occasions - they can really dress up a pair of jeans. My second pair of Heritage boots are the Little Pony peewee boots. So unique and beautiful! I wear these boots everywhere and with everything. These boots are made for walking...and dancing, and working, and horseback riding, and dining out, and going to concerts. They are so comfortable, so much fun and can be dressed up or down! I constantly get compliments on them and people asking where to buy them. Here's the thing with Heritage boots - you are getting what you pay for. Yes, the prices seem steep at first, but when you realize they are in the same price range (or not much higher) as the GENERIC boot brands, you'll understand what you're getting: high quality leather, handmade, unique fancy designs...all at a steal. It's like owning a work of art that you get to wear! So save up and treat yourself to the BEST boots you could own. You're worth it!

The boots are beautiful but the some of the sales people here are horrible. This place is the worst type of hipster where it is super pretentious to the point you feel bad for coming in. I bought a pair of boots here for my boyfriend 5 years ago and he has loved them to the point they are ready for a replacement. We went in to find him another pair and the sale-woman kept cutting us off mid sentence. She kept showing us the boots she wanted to buy for herself which is nice but not helpful. She seemed offended we didn't know boot styles from the 70s and then seemed to determine we weren't worthy of shopping there since she kept asking if we were really there to buy boots or just to look. There was another saleswoman with blonde hair and bangs who swooped in and saved the day. She helped my boyfriend find these awesome sharkskin boots and away we went. I think this shop could benefit from some training for their sales people on customer service.

Stopped in here to check out boots as I've been looking around in the area. I'm from the North and have been waiting to get to Austin to visit my son and check out the real boot stores in Texas. This small store turned out to be a hidden gem, and happy I decided to look around. Exclusive and all custom handmade boots that are not ridiculously priced for the value. Many unique designs which I didn't see at other vendors in the area. Kimber boot maven was extremely helpful in finding what I was looking for and my tastes as well as providing information, and other styles I have in my list to get.

Dear Patti - months ago you responded to my review asking me to give your store another try, but then a week ago you deleted it and replaced it with a comment saying that I'm nasty and entitled. I'm confused and am starting to see that the attitude of your staff might reflect the attitude of its leadership. First of all - if paying $400 for a boot and expecting the vendor to fix a perceived problem makes me entitled, then, yes, I'm entitled. I will own up to that. Second - As to the nastiness of my attitude - I'm sure it was frustration, but if it came across as nastiness I apologize. I worked in retail and I never understood why customers would get nasty, and I've made it a rule to always be a respectful customer, so I would hate to think that your staff felt belittled in any way. My apologies if that was the case. To reiterate, in my review I stated that I loved my boots - I wear them all the time. I state that multiple times in my review, by the way. I even bought a $60 boot jack AFTER this whole heel debacle. You make great stuff! I just didn't appreciate the attitude, that's all....but now I have a better idea as to where it's coming from.

If I could, I would give zero stars! I went to this store yesterday and felt like walking out, right away. You can't touch the boots! How am I suppose to feel the leather? If you want to have an art gallery where nobody touches your products, open one, but not a boots store. This is a "store" that will never see my money for sure. If you want to work with the public, respect them, don't treat them like children. I have visited and purchased many custom boots over the years in many western states. NEVER have I entered a store with a "no touching the boots policy". Hello, it's a retail store not a museum. If you are looking for a pretentious and intimidaring shopping experience you can also visit Hermes in Paris, you'll love it! If your boots can't handle the human touch, how are they going to handle the pavement???

Do you ever just walk into a place and know that you're not welcome? And you're so uncomfortable that you can't wait to get out? I really wanted to check out this store. Walked in and got such a cold reception. All around the store there are signs that say don't touch don't touch don't touch. I can understand why I don't want everybody grabbing all of them. But the whole vibe in the store was just cold and unwelcoming. Woman working there gave me such dirty looks I wondered if I was tracking dog poop or something (I wasn't). Such a relief to walk out. And I walked down the block and bought some gorgeous boots at Allen's. Go there.

My group of women was assessed as not worthy of their services or decency as soon as we walked through the front door. Way to treat 4 doctors with such disregard, little boot shop girl! Everyone is treated like a child by being told to not touch any of the boots without assistance. When you are 'assisted', you immediately regret asking. When one of our party tried on some boots that she could FEEL didn't fit her, she was told that she was wrong. WTF?! Apparently not fitting comfortably, is how "cowboy boots fit!" Such bull$h!t I have shopped the streets if LA, NYC, London & Paris and have never been thus treated. The first first rule in retail is to provide customer service, but apparently not if your boots are over $600! Well done, Heritage. You may have missed out on more than one sale on the day of our visit. Fail! Try Allen's on the same street. They are friendly and have an excellent selection!

Wow. It's a good thing that I didn't come to this boot store upon first arriving in Austin. I might have based the Texas welcome on their customer care. When I walked in, I was ignored by both two girls and finally approached by the (local) salesgirl, who was helpful. I went to take a photo of a great sign about quality, and was met with a snappy comment from one of the girls about how they don't allow photos. A naive customer reached over to pick up a pair of boots, and was met with a verbal slap on the wrist as well, noting "we prefer if you let us help you with the boots and don't touch them". The customer left immediately, which prompted a conversation from the sales girls about whether or not that person should have been more "self aware" about the signs, and whether or not they were rude. The condescending tone really reeks from a store that doesn't actually MAKE real riding boots. Pros: excellent craftsmanship and pride that shows through the details. Cons: you will leave feeling like an inconvenient tourist and regret coming in

I never thought I'd buy a pair of cowboy boots, but by the time the store closed, I was fervidly calling my east coast bank hollering, "LET THE CHARGE GO THROUGH!!". The boots stayed in the store to have a Vibram outer sole put on and I received them today by UPS, a couple hours ago. I could not be more satisfied with my purchase! Alie, who is also from the east coast, comprehensively answered every question I could fire her way, from the provenance of the "snip-toe" to the three different heel styles, leathers, craftsmanship, production times and company history. Believe me, I spend days and nights researching online, but she knew more than any amount of Googling could yield. It's worth visiting just for the service and knowledge, never mind the top-notch boots. Heritage strikes the perfect blend of old-fashioned quality, contemporary boutique shopping experience, and updated urbane fashion sense, all at a price that is affordable. I was expecting to pay close to a thousand dollars to be honest, but I walked out spending just over $400 with taxes and the Vibram sole added. Sure, that's a lot of money, but this is tremendous value. If you can't afford it, go down the street to that other place that sells generic stuff. (BTW it's not cheaper.) Yes, some exotic leathers are imported, and all the boots are made in a Mexican shop carefully managed by Heritage itself, but it makes the appeal broader and price affordable. Additionally, boots can be made to order, but with vague and indefinite wait times, which they made very clear. These boots, which I plan wearing all day and night inside my house for today, and I, were meant to be, that is all! When I found out the owner and I have the exact same shoe size, that was it! It's worth mentioning I quickly browsed the other dross filled legacy store and promptly left uninspired, but when I walked into Heritage Boot, I knew I found "the real deal" and most likely, the best cowboy boots money can buy in Texas. Alie was so sweet when I compared the two stores, she didn't have a single mean word to say, but take it from me, this is the place. I am so lucky to have stumbled in an hour before closing! Their website is current, and the boots' fit are accurate to size number, so I wouldn't hesitate to order online in the future. However, it's clearly a great experience to visit while in Austin. At the very least, call before ordering online. All you idiots who can't read the store signs and are jerks about being serviced while having your feet attended to by very sincere sales associates, please go buy shoes at Cole Haan, buh-bye.

So l was recently back in Austin and went back to Heritage for another pair of boots because I love my first pair so much. This time I got a low pair, which I love beyond belief. They are so comfortable and I can wear this pair to work. Amazingly, Kimber, the salesperson who helped me two years ago, remembered me, and remembered I lived in New York and owned a dachshund. I am already planning to get another pair of low boots on my next trip to visit my daughter. Heritage boots are well worth the price!!

I almost bought a pair of Lucchese boots at a western store in Dallas. It would have been an impulse buy and I decided I'd rather learn a bit about boots before dropping more than just a few bucks on a pair. Searching for "best boots" led me to Heritage Boot in Austin and I quickly found my pair online. Figuring I'd rather buy at the store, I had to wait for my next trip to Austin and had no idea when that would be. A few months hence I headed straight over to the shop when I rolled into town yesterday and let's just say I was delighted. When I first saw the neon boot sign on South Congress I knew I had arrived at my current personal Mecca. This place reeks of high quality, passion for their trade, and the best that Austin, greatest city in Texas, has to offer. The quality of craftsmanship and beauty of everything on the shelf is simply stunning. Couple that with staff (Thanks Jason!) who know their sh!t and how to fit you and it's simply a winning combination. After trying on a few pair I settled on the boots I came in to see in the first place, Black Shark. These boots were just a bit more costly than the aforementioned Lucchese's, a thousand times more beautiful, and of a quality that surpassed whatever I was hoping for in my anticipation. Thanks to all you other Yelpers for the reviews that helped me make my decision to come here. The good reviews are great and the bad reviews confirmed that this would be just the place for me. The sign out front says no photography, so don't take pictures, or at least ask before you do. I wore my new kicks out on the town my first night in Austin and I felt like a million bucks. Thanks to the crew at Heritage. I'm sure I'll end up with another pair sometime in the future. For now, I can't wait to get these bad boys home and try them out on the streets of San Francisco. I LOVE my boots and would give them 5 stars and my experience was great- the service was helpful and the store is beautiful (the smell is incredible!). But I also saw some other customers turned off the way some of these reviewers describe. I knew about the "no touching" policy before I went there (because I read these reviews) but I didn't see any of the sales people even point it out (there are signs everywhere). I did see one women walk in and instantly started touching everything in sight. Her husband pointed it out the signs to her- you could tell it soured her experience and they immediately left. It might not be for everyone but if you're looking to buy gorgeous, handmade boots and do your research before hand I don't think you can go wrong at Heritage. I know I'll go back!

Since I moved back to Texas I've been hankering for some cowboy boots. And not just any, but some that I could wear scootin at the Spoke, to Patty Griffin at Gruene Hall (tomorrow! So excited!) to dinner and then off to fancy meetings in D.C. where I can show off my true Texan side alongside my Ivy league know-how. After searching at Cavenders, and loving some Old Gringos at Allens, I wanted to look somewhere a little smaller. Somewhere that could tell me more than 'oh you want some slip in the heel.' And then I stopped at Heritage today and met Jerry. An Irishman selling cowboy boots to a Vietnamese guy? I'm proud to say, only in Austin my friends. He was clearly proud of his merch, and he showed me the details that go into the boots. Then he pulled out a few great pairs for me to try on. I fell in love with the 4th pair. Ostrich, smooth as silk, and sexy sexy. I was hoping to get something off his sale rack - because dang there are some good prices there. But couldn't get my mind or my feet off the pair I'm wearing right now. So - $450.00 later here I am (not bad when you consider that 12 of Jerry's boots come off the line every day). The quality of materials and service - not to mention the cost (and benefit) of buying local. So, go have some fun at Allen's sure, grab a cupcake across the street. But when you're ready to lay down some dinero for a wonderful boot, head to Heritage.

Once you own a pair of Heritage Boots you forget about the lattes you gave up to save for them! Not only are the boots fabulous to look at they wear like your favorite slippers. And you won't mind the compliments! You'll only go back to those chain stores for your ropers (which you still need for mucking around).

I visited Allen Boots, a competitor, and found the prices high for average quality. After posting my boot shopping adventures on Instagram http://instagram.com/p/mDsb7OyrkK/ I decided to give my boot quest another shot - and was thrilled to have come upon this shop at the suggestion of my Austin based friends. The women working in the store were knowledgeable and all looked fantastic sporting their own boots - they quickly guided me to my size and pulled out a pair that I knew had to be mine. And now they are. The price tag was high but the quality high and I know that I will get many years of use out of them, long after I am done wearing them as I tour the country in coming months during my road trip.

I've been to this store twice as a serious buyer and both times I had unpleasant experiences. The first time they told me "Don't touch the boots." Excuse me? I'm going to spend $600 on a pair of boots and I can't touch them. The second visit was yesterday and they made a big point that my small bottle of sparkling mineral water was not welcome. I thought they should be offering me a bottle of mineral water, not telling me off like I'm a bad kid. I will never be back to that place. They're not the only boot store on the block.

Every time I'm in Austin I come to Heritage Boot. They embody everything I want in a business: quality, design, style and customer service. The staff knows their boots and takes tremendous pride in telling you a story about each style and finish. I'm not a western sort of guy. I like fashion and style but I consider these to be works of art on par with the great designers worldwide.

Let's start with I from Brooklyn and I now live in South America. My need for cowboy boots started as a joke. I had a planned business's trip to Nashville and wanted to leave the Wild West/ south with a pair of cowboys boots. Essentially to be the gaucho negro in buenos aires. Gimmicky and silly I know for a grown man, but we have to get our kicks and giggles somewhere. Anyway, My trip ended up more business than pleasure, and I left Nashville without boots or a hat. "Fortunately" my trip was delayed in Houston due to wonderful airline on-time performance. I did a search, Cavenders appeared to be the consensus. After an hour, I walked away with a decent pair of tony Mahon black caiman square toe and a Cavenders straw hat. Shout out to my Mexican American sales girl who was just awesome. The boots looked nice, fit ended up being a little loose, and once home, they did not quite meet my expectations. So I did a search on eBay, and encountered that Forbes article (do you guys have Forbes stock?). Anyway with my crappy skype connection I gots Janet H. On the line. She was absolutely fabulous. I explained that what I needed, she took pictures of the actual boots from her iphone and sent to me. We did this with about 5 pairs of boots. She did this knowing that I may not purchase for 3 months, when I was planning to be back in the states. Turns out I had an emergency trip to NYC later that week. Based on her great customer service and answering all my questions, setting my comfort level about sizing, even looking at my shoe/boot collection I me mailed her for size reference, I decided to pull the trigger. The boots arrived on time on the day she predicted. I went a bit more conservative, but I have to say overall the boots are a1, style, workmanship, color, and comfort. (Texas whiskey snip toe). I will be making another purchase in July (bring on the triad) Janet H. Is the bomb, who knew boot purchases site unseen could be so easy. Consider me a raving fan. Expensive, hell no. This is quality to last a lifetime. I try to only buy the best footwear. If your not a cowboy boot wearer, looking to change it up, and don't live in TEXAS, Heritage is the way to go. YEE HAW! I have been all over Austin in the past month, looking for a new, special, perfect pair of boots and I found them here! They are only my second pair ever and my first pair lasted for 14 years before I decided that it might be time to get a new pair (I like to take things slow...) This place is awesome. It's so much more fun to spend money at a place like this, with so much personality, then some stupid western warehouse. Great design - great service - great signage - great service. If you appreciate good store design and marketing, stop in here and look around, even if you aren't shopping for boots.
