"Hverfjall Volcano Up near Lake Myvatn looms this immense black volcano. To stand near it is to be humbled, yet again, by the majesty of Iceland 's pure and raw nature. The crater is approximately 1 km in diameter and it's estimated to be around 2,800-2,900 years old. The last time it exploded was 2005."

Great walk around the huge crater. The crater itself is humongous and pretty cool to look at from a few different angles when you walk around. The hike itself is 20 minutes up to the top and takes around 1 hour to go around the whole 2 mile loop around the crater. Highly recommend!

The biggest crater in the area. A mildly grueling climb up the side of the crater, followed by a long and beautiful walk around the rim. It was very windy when we were there, but the views of the area were still excellent. It was mind boggling to be walking around the rim while contemplating and imagining the scale of the lava and fire that must have spurted from this volcano to form the surrounding geography. We also walked around in the surrounding black sands and lava fields for a fully immersive experience.

We walked to the top of Hverfjall in knee deep snow at dawn to send a drone up. What a breathtaking view from the top. Amazing!

Not crowded, maybe its because we went while it was quite windy and raining. It was a fantastic experience to go to the top and see the view from there. The wind is especially strong when you are at the top, so do wear the proper gear. Parking is around 7-8 Euros I believe, and the toilets next to the parking were very well maintained and clean.

It's totally worth the further climb after the initial climb up the parking area. From here to get to admire the full crater landscape with amazing vistas over Lake Mývatn, Dimmuborgir lave fields on the other side and Hverir geothermal activity. Not to be missed but expect winds which is the norm here!

This was a great way to end a long day of driving from the East Coast. We visited last month. It's quite a climb to the top of the cone, but the views of Myvatn are worth it. There are WCs near the parking area. You need to pay for parking via the Parka app.

Amazing experience. It’s a unique experience to walk on a 2500 year old crater. The views are amazing and you feel as if you are walking on a different planet. The start is quite steep so take your time if you are not used to this, but the loop is easy enough. There are toilets available and you have to pay for parking. From the parking to the top, a loop and back down is roughly 4.35km

Volcanic crater with a nice trail around the rim. Hike up is a little challenging but worth the view.
