"Plaza Botero At the center of Medellín, Plaza Botero gets its name from Colombian artist Fernando Botero, who donated 23 of his much-loved, disproportionate-bodied bronze sculptures to the city. There’s a huge chubby head, a reclining woman, and an oddly small man with a bowler hat riding a horse, plus good old Adam and Eve. The Museo de Antioquia abuts the plaza and houses other pieces by Botero as well as works by other artists. By day the square is vibrant and lively, but do take appropriate precautions after dark. Plaza Botero An iconic and unforgettable experience in the heart of Medellín. The art and history surrounding Plaza Botero are remarkable, with monumental sculptures that invite you to slow down and really observe. The area is lively and full of energy, with plenty of nearby shops, cafés, and places to grab food or a drink. It can get very crowded, especially in certain sections, so it may not be ideal for everyone. Also worth noting: afternoon rain showers can significantly impact traffic—Uber wait times increase and congestion builds quickly. Plan accordingly and go earlier in the day for the best experience.

A very lively area that offers a great local experience. The square is beautiful, with impressive large sculptures from Botero, and it’s easy to explore on foot or by bike. We visited twice: once on a bike tour and once on our own. The only downside is that it gets very crowded and unfortunately has a strong urine smell in many spots. We did not visit the museums unfortunately.

A beautiful, bustling plaza with great food options and cultural experiences abounding. It isn’t the cleanest city park I’ve been to, but it is certainly worth a visit to stop by the surrounding museums and explore the adjacent markets.

Walking through Plaza Botero felt like stepping into a living art gallery. The massive bronze sculptures were impossible to ignore—bold, playful, and full of character. Surrounded by Medellín’s energy, I felt the city’s soul come alive. Locals, tourists, street performers—everyone added to the vibe. It’s a place where art meets real life. I could’ve stayed there for hours.

One of the main squares in the city, bustling with life, street vendors and it felt very safe. Lot of police patrolling the streets. You can find lot of vendors selling different drinks and snacks as you walk around and enjoy the sculptures of Fernando Botero, Antioquia’s very own.

It's a shame that Botero sculptures are placed in a park that is dirty, smells bad, there's trash on the ground, people under the influence of drugs speaking nonsense, prostitutes, etc. It simply feels unsafe and not appropriate for families with small children. It's a beautiful park that is being wasted. I've been many times to Medellín but we don't dare to visit the park unless we have men in our group. You don't feel safe unless your are in a group and several locals with you in order to feel protected. There was a robbery while we were there and it was a little uncomfortable to see people yelling and running in different directions. The municipality needs to clean this place and send policeman. Tourist are missing the chance to enjoy the Art of Botero because of fear of being robbed.

Ay mami, it can get dangerous so badly and quickly, you don’t even realize it when you’re already in danger. Be cautious at every time and watch around. The plaza botero is wonderful and it means something very special to medellin. Do a walking tour first and then go out on yourself into the medellin city centre but don’t do the opposite like me. The metro station is right underneath tje bridge, you basically exit the merro and stand on the plaza botero. Be careful and enjoy.
