Hard Off & Hobby Off Ueno Okachimachi Store

I was in the area and wanted to see by myself if what people were saying online was true. And yes, I have to say it's true: this shop has become ridiculously expensive! I think it's now a shop aimed at foreign tourists who, thanks to the weak yen, still buy it because it's cheap for them. I didn't look at all the prices on the five floors, but I focused on my hobby: plastic models. Well, in addition to the very limited variety for an hobby-off, the prices were 1.5 or 2 times higher than the used market. Some models were even more expensive than new ones! I'd love to meet who set the prices in this shop and know what drives them so high. *Turist trap alert*

I purchased a bucket list item here: a 1989 Original Gameboy! They had a couple in the case and the staff kindly assisted me with testing them out to decide which one I wanted. The price was reasonable considering the product. ありがとうございます！

I would put the inventory of this store up against anything in Akihabara. The amount of games for sale is stunning, and the hardware is even more plentiful and fascinating. You'll have to dig around because they really pack things in, but for gamers or other hobbyists, it's definitely worth the time. You'll find some amazing things.

Hobby store with niche floors, one for music, electronics and cords, toys and specialty hobbies like figures, paints and guns? Surprised to find three cases full of realistic looking bb guns. Good place if you're looking for something hobby specific, not great for just gifts/souvenirs search. Good selection of high end Pokemon cards though

Out of the 5 or 6 Hard Off, Hobby Off and Book Off I've visited this is the 1st or the 2nd to have less items and worst prices. If you are a videogame collector try to check the prices in your country or online before buying anything from these stores. They have increased the prices like crazy and everything is a lot more expensive than online. Check before buying anything twice to avoid any circumstances that will ruin your trip.

Tourist Trap! Used VOX Pathfinder 10 amps, which sell for 4,400 yen at other stores in the same chain, and junk Playtech Stratocaster-type guitars are being sold here for 8,800 yen. The PC accessories section is even worse: for example, you can buy a new, premium high-speed HDMI cable at the nearby Daiso for 330 yen, but this store sells a junk (unwarranted) high-speed HDMI cable for 550 yen. This store is not worth spending your valuable time on during your trip to Japan.

A small location with a good selection of character goods at low prices. They aren't sorted by category, so be prepared to rummage. I got a bunch of can badges and keychains for ¥110~220. Video games and consoles were on the pricey side.
