On the Grid : Nodo Donuts

"For gluten-sensitive souls, donuts are generally a no-go. Not anymore. Nodo are spreading the love ‘round Newstead by making delish donuts that everyone can enjoy. Choose raw or baked, but they’re all guilt-and-gluten-free, and chock full of wholesome ingredients like freeze dried berries, banana and cacao. Nodo’s philosophy? Eat Donuts for Breakfast. Now that’s a mantra we can get behind." - Bigfish

Recommending Nodo in Brisbane is like recommending Central Park in New York, but I'm here to specifically tell you that the blueberry lemon cheesecake donut is mandatory.

Brisbane: Just as cool as Syd/Mel, I promise

Hosted our FEARLSS walk/run club here every Saturday for 1 year now & the staff are friendly. Seating outdoors is lovely. Service is quick & the gluten free & vegan options are incredible. Banana bread is a favourite! Nodo also stocks fresh GF loaves of break. Skip their coffee & opt for a chai latte instead 🙂

Yeah it was ok, very hot in the morning for Breaky, not a whole lot of seating and it’s only out the front. Partner and I both had the eggs Benny - cornbread was a great touch instead of tough old sourdough bread - BUT if you didn’t have the bread with enough sauce, you’d choke on how dry it was - but it tasted good so I’m torn. We got a hash brown and avocado on the side and went halves. It wouldn’t be a new go to for me, but if nothing else was open I’d go back. In saying that, the coffee was pretty good!

We came from the Gold Coast for a day out. The weather wasn’t great and it rained a little, unfortunately, the tables and seating aren’t really set up for rain. They have umbrellas, but they don’t offer much protection. Getting a table is a bit of a challenge, and the tables are quite small. The food was okay and nice for someone with allergies, but the portions were small. For example, we got one waffle with just two scoops of ice cream/sorbet and maybe a single cut up strawberry. We also got two donuts to take away, but had to eat them straight away because our “breakfast” wasn’t very filling. Overall, it was fine but nothing particularly special. Also they don’t accept cash, only card…

I came from Sydney to eat here (seriously, was the main purpose of my trip) and I was a bit disappointed with a few things. Food quality is good but the service is a let down. The tables are always packed so you share your breakfast with strangers. The tables aren’t cleaned or wiped. I went to get lunch on Sunday (4th visit there in my 2 day trip) and all the tables were being packed away and umbrellas closed 1.5 hours before closing (and an hour before lunch service ended). I felt like an inconvenience for ordering when clearly all the staff just wanted to leave. Donuts also sell out really early in the day so maybe a second round of donuts on weekends. Love the menu options and quality of food but hopefully some improvements as above.

The Vegan options here make this well worth the visit. The Holy Cacao was freaking delicious and packed with protein 💪🏼🌱 It's also in a beautiful location with table 21 being my favourite. A very nice atmosphere and view.

The best GF donuts I’ve had so far. They are more cake like then donuts which is the only fault as they are a little denser than “normal” donuts. The flavours are delicious though and they are less sweet than a lot of other decadent donuts which I liked about NoDo. Staff were friendly and pleasant. The location can be a bit tricky to get a table at which can be frustrating as the eat in menu is delicious!

This is the best gluten free brunch I’ve had! Since going gluten free I haven’t wanted to just eat bread but I could eat a whole loaf of Nodo’s bread. The service was great too and the vibe is great and there’s a good view of some of south bank too!

One of our alternative 'Post Parkrun' coffee stops, located just off the Arboretum pedestrian walkway. Outdoor seating under umbrellas and building soffit. Good service, nice coffee with the usual range of cafe snacks and food.
