"Not far outside George Town, you’ll find Pedro St. James, a beautifully restored, lushly landscaped 18th-century great house—complete with period furniture and other era-appropriate artifacts, as well as a 21st-century multimedia, multisensory theater (think automated hurricane spray) that lets you live through 200 years of local history in 20 minutes. The seaside estate actually played a notable role in said history: Dubbed the birthplace of Caymanian democracy, Pedro St. James was the scene of the 1831 meeting that led to the first election of district representatives—and the 1835 proclamation that ended slavery here. Three stories tall with thick stone walls and wraparound verandas, thestructure is appropriately grand—so much so that it’s known to locals as “the castle.”"

Cruised to Cayman Islands 🇰🇾 and decided to take this excursion. To step back in time and hear the story of this castle and be able to glimpse into the past was so interesting. Our Guide Trish was wonderful, the castle was restored to its original form including mahogany doors, wood floors and teak ceilings. Wonderful brunch with friendly staff, birds chirping from trees, and all around nostalgia that is unforgettable. I’d certainly return to see this site.

A great visit that tells the history of the estate. Must start with the video/theater. The building restoration is amazing and the grounds are beautiful. We went on a quiet cruise ship day (1) The tour guides were wonderful and informative. A great and reasonable priced gift shop with the SWEETEST staff, HEY STACI!! She is a gem!

A really lovely, quiet historical house to visit. It is small and there is no access to the house if you can't use the stairs. A glimpse into the history of this island with beautiful sea views and often a cool breeze. You can take photos, get a guided tour and watch a video of the history. Important to the history of these islands. I must admit I have not been when ships are in or on a day when it could be busy. We usually visit with guests or before heading to sports beach in the afternoon. The staff are very helpful and friendly. You can get drinks and snacks at the gift shop, Restaurant here as well. Closed Monday open from 11 am Tuesday till Sunday.

What a wonderful place to escape the crowds and learn about the history of the Cayman Islands. We took a tour which was informative and interesting. Our tour guide, Wilson, was a great storyteller. The grounds are beyond beautiful, and the theater was like nothing we had ever seen before. Pedro St. James was a wonderful stop as we explored the island. Thanks, Chris (tour guide at the cruise terminal) for the recommendation!

A very nice place to spend a relaxing afternoon learning about local history of Cayman Islands. We arrived a bit late (an hour before closing) after lunch at the on-site restaurant so we missed the introductory video otherwise the trip would have been perfect. Recommend to arrive at least 2 hours before closing so you can catch the introduction film and then have some time to walk around.

We took a guided tour with Patricia, or Tricia. Not pat, that's what you do to a dog. :) Patricia gave us a wonderful guided tour of the grounds and the house. Intertwining personal stories with the history of the site while seamlessly slipped in and out of accents. After the tour we had time to explore the grounds on our own and relax on the lawn and play on the giant swing. There were a number of iguanas, hermit crabs and other critters to enjoy watching. We ended the evening having dinner and a rum tasting at Thatch & Barrel while watching the sunset.
