Lagos Is Africa's Most Vibrant City Right Now — Here's How to Visit

"The country’s largest privately owned gallery, packed wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling with an extraordinarily diverse and loosely curated collection spanning paintings, sketches, sculptures, and mixed media. Visitors encounter everything from replicas of the rarely circulated kobo coin to vibrant portraits of everyday life in traditional dress, monochrome studies, and exuberantly colored pieces; the overall effect is abundant, celebratory, and a little overwhelming in the best way." - Shirley Nwangwa

"Looking to bask in the work of Nigerian and international artists while in Lagos for Lagos Fashion Week? Then look no further than Nike Art Gallery. Located in a five-story tall building in Lekki, a suburban area on Lagos Island, it features thousands of artworks, making it one of the largest gallery collections in West Africa. It is a favorite in Lagos for art lovers and those seeking a place to meet fellow enthusiasts."

Best Art Gallery arguably in Nigeria and competitively Africa with more than 200,000 artworks from over 50,000 artists. This place has art works ranging from contemporary piece to esquire and antique art pieces. The two visits are worth every bit of experience had and the opportunity to make your own painting with supports from experts is really mind blowing.

It is an interesting place to visit. Any art lover will love it! Even if you aren't an art lover, you will find something that would interest you and catch your attention. If you are an artist yourself, you'll get a lot of inspiration from the wide array of art work housed here. Entry is free but if you want a guided tour there is a small fee for that. I believe they're open 7 days a week.

A true cultural gem! Nike Art Gallery is an absolute must-visit for anyone interested in Nigerian art and heritage. The moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with vibrant colors, intricate artworks, and warm hospitality. The collection is massive—ranging from paintings and sculptures to textiles and beadwork—each piece telling a powerful story. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the art, and they’re happy to share insights about the artists and their work. I especially appreciated how the gallery supports local artists and promotes traditional Nigerian craftsmanship in a modern setting. It’s not just a gallery—it feels like a celebration of African creativity and soul. Highly recommended for tourists, art lovers, and even casual visitors who just want to explore something beautiful and inspiring.

The Nike Art Gallery in Lagos is truly a beautiful experience — there’s so much to see, and the best part is everything is for sale! From the moment you walk in, you’re surrounded by incredible paintings, sculptures, and fabrics that reflect Nigeria’s rich culture and creativity. After completing our self-guided tour, my wife and I enjoyed their “Paint and Sip” session, which cost ₦15,000 per canvas at the time of this review. It was such a fun and relaxing way to end the visit! They do offer drinks and snacks, but just a note — they come at an additional (undisclosed) cost, so make sure to ask before helping yourself. Also, the frame for your finished artwork is ₦15,000 extra and optional. The only thing keeping this from being a full 5-star rating is the condition of the restrooms, which could use a bit more attention. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our day at Nike Art Gallery. It’s an inspiring place filled with talent, color, and creativity — definitely worth visiting while in Lagos. 😌

This gallery is lovely. Made up of 4 floors of mostly canvas art pieces with some sculptures/figurines. Timothy welcomed us to the gallery and informed us of the things available on offer (painting your own artwork with guidance and buying pieces in the gallery). Be ready to climb stairs as I was not made aware of a lift.
