Google
I’ve been record shopping all over Boston — and this is still my favorite shop. Johnathan is an all knowing audio and music head, and the staff are awesome. Great selection of equipment from budget to HiFi Marantz etc. CD selection and Vinyl selection is always on par. Some eclectic VHS and ephemera in the back. Still rocking speakers that I bought from here 2+ years ago in my main setup. Awesome shop!

Gigi

Google
Located in Coolidge Corner. They rate their records’ condition and put it right on the sleeve which is super helpful. Good variety and the staff knows their stuff. They also sell turntables and audio equipment if you need to upgrade your setup. Found some 90s alternative stuff here that was in great condition. Prices are marked clearly. Easy to get to on the Green Line.

Google
I've bought an amplifier and a turntable at Village Vinyl as someone who is totally ignorant of vintage sound systems. Each time I walked out of there with solid equipment that works well and impresses my audio nerd friends. The folks at Village Vinyl are very knowledgeable about what they sell, and have consistently talked me into buying stuff that's less expensive and higher quality than whatever I was initially looking at. Their record selection excellent as well.

Google
Village Vinyl will have the records you want from the get-go. A central destination Brookline, MA. Right in the heart of shopping, Japanese groceries (Maruichi), good food, books, and good desserts. If you're from out of town and need a place to go record shopping, this is it. Owner and staff have good vibes and are willing to walk you over to help find stuff and connect with you. Great customer service. They expanded a whole new section next door featuring VHS, DVDs, CDs, shirts, and posters.

Google
I was in shop last weekend for my second visit. A good friend recommended it and it did not disappoint. Great selection of new and old pieces. Plenty of choices for any genre you may enjoy. The staff there are equally awesome. Helpful, knowledgeable and made some great recommendation. I will drive 4 hours from Jersey to check them out when I visit.

Lee D.

Google
Absolute, as the kids say, peak. Incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff, with a selection that I think is genuinely unrivaled. Stuff I’ve been searching after for years that no place other has, not only do they have they have them at great prices.

Google
CD selection is broad but frustratingly totally unorganized. When I went there were still placeholders marked with letters suggesting the prior existence of an alphabetical CD organizing system, but the markers were completely inaccurate. This is actually the first time I've ever walked out of a record store without having made a purchase. Vinyl selection seemed good, and had an actual organization system. Maybe if they bother to alphabetize their CDs I'll go back.

Google
Only game in town this side of the river( and the prices reflect it. Bummed at how they sell the Russian / euro bootlegs of jazz classics as the quality is shit and cuts out artists’ families from royalties. And the t-shirts / band merch looks like it’s all grey market. No returns / exchanges speaks volumes, especially when they are selling really old stereo / AV gear, Still, service can be solid, owner is cool, and location is nice.

Yelp
Owner Jonathan and crew member Dom. came to my place and gave me a fair price for 400+ LPs and vintage speakers, a turntable, plus more. Very professional and considerate. Gave me a check and loaded up all the items on a frigid day! Interesting gent who takes pride in his trade. Highly recommend Village Vinyl, if you have good stuff to sell.

Daniel O.

Yelp
Impressive selection and fantastic deals! Immensely appreciate they carry laserdisc, vhs and other video formats as well!

Chris R.

Yelp
Bought two records, Both were new - but both were bootlegs. One was okay. The other had pretty crappy audio, Both were about 25-30 each. I didn't try bringing the crappy one back. Just accepted it as a $29 life lesson. Not planning another trip to this place.

Jack T.

Yelp
Quirky but professional. Gave me a fair price for my used vinyl, phonograph/CD recorder, and turntable.

Ethan L.

Yelp
The selection here is amazing. Plenty of pre-loved records here along with newer music and re-releases of classics. The jazz selection here remains unmatched for the size of the store, with many new pressings of your favorite classics, along with some surprising deep cuts as well. Their other sections are well curated too. In addition to the great selection, the prices are very fair and I feel pleased with what I'm getting each time I come. There are some gorgeous refurbished stereos, CD players, speakers, etc. that I intend on investigating at some point as well. Overall, a great record store!

Yelp
Tight little shop that always has fresh goods coming through, & the owner is a good-natured & amiable chap. I left my old Pioneer receiver for repair with them recently, & it got the TLC it needed, it sounds clean as a whistle. Oh & the price actually elicited a sigh of relief (it wasn't a simple fix-it's an old tank that needed several updates)....Places like this need to be supported more than ever, & I plan to keep going back.

Yelp
I went to village vinyl in Brookline Massachusetts, I was treated very rudely and yelled at by this employee there named Brandon. I was returning movies and he said, you messed everything up and why are u returning these movies it's not a blockbuster and he threw the store credit paper at me and just angrily left the store to go out to smoke. I felt unwelcome and felt wrongly treated by it seems like an untrained employee with customers. I will not be coming back to this place so I am not treated so meanly for no reason, it's unacceptable! If the owner wants me to take this down I will need an apology from Brendan personally and an apology from the owner as well.

Jeff L.

Yelp
I love this place. The owner is so knowledgeable about music and every time I walk in there, he's playing something that I want to buy. I go in with my fiancé and dog sometimes and he makes us all feel welcome. The Jazz selection in this store is insane; by far the best in the Boston area. I've found some pretty awesome harder to find reggae stuff too. The owner will often compliment my choices in a genuine way too which always makes me feel excited about my purchase. All of the used records I've purchased are perfect. This is the kind of business that makes you excited to go to since you never know what you might find. I walked in there tonight and there was a live jazz band playing. Incredible.

Yelp
The guy is rude and the vinyl prices are over the top. good collection but the prices are too high, I wonder how much is this guy really selling. Yet has a super bad attitude.

Yelp
Nice store, good amount and variety of stock (and they have CDs and tapes too), very knowledgeable and friendly guys.

Yelp
This record shop is amazing! They have a huge selection of both new and used vinyl. They also have lots of 1$ vinyls! Definitely in my top 3 record stores!

Yelp
I've been here multiple times and always come back. Staff is very friendly and it's a great environment. I love supporting local record shops. You should definitely check them out!

Yelp
Brookline is such a cute little place. Nice downtown with fun things to do. This place is the epitome of that feeling. So warm and inviting. The owner is so kind I decided to write a review about this place because of how great he was. Shoutout to him!!! Small business owners never get the recognition they deserve. It's places like this that make cities I've never been to worth visiting and homey. I would recommend everyone to come here and spend your money. They have such a nice record collection. The cd's are great!! Spotify is cool and all but there's nothing like a physical cd of your favorite band. They had one cd of my favorite!!! Made my whole day. Definitely visit and buy a gift for a friend or for yourself

Yelp
Not only is owner Jonathan a lovely human being, he invariably goes the extra mile to track down weird music requests. A gem for music-lovers!

Yelp
This Happens to be the best Vintage Vinyl store that I have been in. All the albums are in fantastic condition, clean and inspected. They have a great assortment and Jonathan, is very knowledgeable. There is also a nice assortment of vintage equipment. A+ for customer service and support. First rate retailer, would not pass up for your vintage vinyl needs

Yelp
Lots of rap, indie, and rock. Spotless, & meticulously clean, the mark of a real fan of vinyl, and not some relic that was lucky to hold on to their inventory for the current revival. The staff is listening to records testing them on the floor as they put them away. I did not find anything that I was looking for, but it was a pleasant experience without the patchouli & oily dingy mustified-odors of other shops.

Daniel E.

Yelp
Place rocks. Great punk selection. Dude behind the counter is super nice. I pop in whenever I'm near Coolidge Corner.

Yelp
Jonathan, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and cares so much for his work. That is apparent by how he treats the customers, as well as how he keeps his beautiful store! John, who works with him, is also an awesome guy. They both went above and beyond to help me find the exact record I was looking for, and I am grateful. I highly recommend Village Vinyl & Hi-Fi, and am happy to be a regular customer!

Yelp
As we stumble through American culture hypnotized by corporate mediocrity, we yearn for authenticity. I have found it here. This wonderful neighborhood record store is an oasis from the mundane and focus-grouped wasteland that has spread across our land. Treasure hunting here will bring you smiles. If you're not from the area: parking around the Village is easy. Get your butt over to B-line and take your time savoring the tactile zen of flipping through the mind-blowingly eclectic and ever-changing selections that are personally curated by John, the very friendly and welcoming owner, who is truly a musical savant. I am still glowing over my big score from my first visit: a vintage 70s solid-state Sherwood S-7200 receiver! Sounds amazing, looks cool and puts a smile on my face every time I get to turn those huge, silver, weighted volume and tuning knobs. Modern tech just doesn't compare in terms of warmth of tone and style! Reconnect with the simple joy of music-appreciation and visit the beautiful jewel of Brookline Village: Village Vinyl & Hifi! Can't wait to get back over there again soon...

Yelp
Walked in and Criminal Minded by BDP was playing. Right away I knew this is a place for me. Very clean and organized interior, with an extensive collection of used and new records. I was able to find a couple of Jazz, R&B and Rap records I was looking for and to top it off the staff was super friendly. Definitely one of my top 3 (if not my outright favorite) for vinyl shopping. Thank you Village Vinyl & Hi-Fi!

Yelp
My first time here and it won't be the last... Jon, the owner, and the gentleman working with him are super-friendly and the selection is great. Bonus points for playing the Wipers while we shopped.

Yelp
I swing through here about once a week - nice rotation of new (used) inventory right in the front. I can usually snag some good finds that you wouldn't see at other shops around. I just wish it was a bigger space. Cool little selection of vintage equipment in the rear of the shop that seems to be meticulously cared for and restored.

Yelp
One of the best record stores and suppliers of high end vintage audio equipment I've ever been to. Fantastic selection of various genres, and an unbelievable amount of gorgeous vintage equipment. Anyone interested in records or vintage audio equipment will be thrilled to explore this store. Also, the owner Jonathan is extremely nice and clearly an expert in his field. I'd recommend this store to anyone, whether they're looking to dip their toes into the audiophile world or are an experienced music lover. Bottom line, great selection of high quality records with an unbelievable selction of vintage audio equipment (at a reasonable price) and a friendly and knowledgeable owner. I can't recommend highly enough and I can't wait until they move to Coolidge corner in a few months.

Yelp
This place is great. Lots of unique stuff, especially for such a small and new store. The owner is very friendly and makes everyone feel welcome. I love coming here to dig through all the records and find my next hidden gem.

H J.

Yelp
This place has friendly and welcoming staff who are incredibly knowledgable about their wide range of music. They have a decent collection of 7" records that were in fairly average/poor condition, though I didn't buy any so I can't really comment on those. However, they did have an incredible collection of lps. These records were extremely well-organized - they labled genres and prominent artists as well as alphabetically sorting less popular musicians. Keep in mind that more well-known records usually come at a higher price. I bought two lps - Basin Street Blues by Louis Armstrong and This or That by Sway & King Tech. Beside the records being ridiculously cheap ($4 and $5) they were in impressive condition. Sure they were a little dusty and had a few scratches but they played nicely after a brief clean.

Yelp
Lovely shop decorated with fun vintage Boston rock scene photos. Very knowledgeable owner. Great records, fair prices. A+++

Yelp
Great little shop! Nice layout, staff is friendly and lots of information. Prices vary from collectibles to dollar bin. Also equipment in the back. A definite go back and shop.

Yelp
This is a great little record store with a wide variety of items and they have quite a bit of high-quality vintage stereo equipment. I found several items that I have not seen in a record store in 30 years. The owner is polite helpful and considerate and I can tell how he treats his customers that his establishment will succeed for years to come. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This place opened recently and is totally awesome. The owner Jonathan has super taste and is obviously tapped into the local music scene. I didn't even make it to the main rock selection because I immediately blew my budget on the amazing punk and metal bins - but the bits I scoped out looked super solid. I'm based in Brooklyn but will totally be making a point of stopping through here next time I visit the fam in Boston.

Champ K.

Yelp
Everything you could ask for in a neighborhood record store!!! Great selection!! Exceptional value (I'd guess 25-30% less than Newbury Comics used vinyl pricing, for example) and you won't find a kinder, more honest store owner! They also take COVID-19 and staying open, seriously (for what it's worth).

Jackie S.

Yelp
Village Vinyl, Jonthan the owner and Josh who works with him are truly amazing and kind people. We spent five blissful hours digging for 45s and came out very happy customers. The selection is great not only for 45s, but tons of all music mediums and great looking hi fi equipment! Curating 45s in a record store is tough, and they do a great job, so you can bet everything else will follow suit in the store. The quality is awesome, the prices more than fair. He was our first stop in Boston, and by far our favorite experience. We were first time Uber users on this trip, and Jonathan even insisted on coming out to make sure we got off safely with our vinyl treasures. If you are digging for vinyl in the Boston area, put Village Vinyl at the very top of your list--we were glad we did!

Yelp
I've traveled across the US and Europe buying records and I can honestly say Village Vinyl is my favorite store in the world. It's small, personal, and friendly. The staff and owner are attentive and love music. The inventory is as good as it gets. I've found everything from obscure and inexpensive titles to highly collectible rarities. The owner knows his stuff and has great taste. I've actively recommended Village Vinyl to friends.

Marty K.

Yelp
What an amazing store! The record selection is incredible and the owner is super knowledgable and friendly. A real gem for music fans. They have everything from classic albums, to rare records I did not know existed. I've also had my guitar amp (1974 Fender Pro Reverb) repaired at the shop. The turn around was within a few hours, which is generally unheard of, and the repair was perfect. If you love music you have to visit this store!

Holly D.

Yelp
Oh man...This place is great. Small...but has a ton of great stuff. I found two albums I have been searching for. The owner is cool. He knows his stuff.

Yelp
I have been trying to visit as many of the local independent record shops since I moved to Boston full-time in January. My biggest mistake was taking this long to visit Village Vinyl! Not only is the selection incredible, but they have something for everyone. Whether you are looking for something a little more affordable/worn a bit, or something that is rare/in perfect condition, they have it here. This spans multiple genres, and the organization is great as well. For example, I wanted to find a cheaper, maybe more imperfect sounding copy of "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan". Most places charge 25+ for this album just because it's a "cool" Dylan album to own. I found an affordable copy for $12. And it sounds fantastic. Not to mention there are many hard to find albums here, including some pretty cool (and cheap!) 12' singles. Kudos to having so many great singles from The Cure. The staff was great as well, as I was looking for a few things/asking about some prices on several things and everyone was super friendly. And the owner Jonathan was also very kind, personable, and helpful. He introduced himself, and helped me out when I was looking for a tape deck. He didn't have a cheaper one on hand, but was happy to offer finding one in my price range immediately. I plan to make this place a regular stop on my way home from work!
