National Museum of Kenya

Visited the Nairobi National Museum and honestly, it’s one of the best ways to understand Kenya in one place. From rich Kenyan history and culture, stunning tribal artifacts, and detailed wildlife and snake exhibits, to the beautiful nature walk and botanical gardens, everything is well laid out and informative. The fossil and early human evolution sections are especially impressive. The museum is clean, well maintained, and perfect for families, tourists, and anyone curious about Kenya’s heritage. A calm, educational experience that truly shows how diverse and special this country is.

Museum with one of the best timeline and fossil collections of homo erectus for the past million years, and an unbelievable collection of bird species and animal species sample. The outside and the building are unassuming but the internal collections worth half a day if not longer. We just hope to have more time.

The exhibits are well organized and informative, covering everything from early human origins to modern Kenya. The museum is clean, easy to navigate, and not overly crowded, making it a relaxed and educational visit. A must-see stop in Nairobi for anyone wanting real context and depth about Kenya.

Wonderful museum with loads of information. It seems underfunded so I dearly hope more funding can be diverted their way to help maintain artifacts. The museum shop has great stuff that is beautiful and locally made.

It's an interesting museum about the history of Kenya. The tickets with the snake park coombo is 1500 KES per person. The history about Kenya is said as it is which is interesting. What stood out to me most was how openly it addresses the impact of British colonial rule, the land dispossession, repression, and the resistance movements like the Mau Mau and presents them clearly as injustices rather than glossing over them. The history is told largely from a Kenyan perspective, not a colonial one. You can feel that the museum makes a conscious effort to acknowledge what white settlers and colonial authorities did wrong, while also honoring the resilience, resistance, and identity of Kenyan communities.

The museum contains very important and highly interesting artifacts and therefore deserves to be maintained better. At present it gives the appearance that nothing at the permanent collection was curated or maintained for decades. Part of the facilities of the Art collection are used as a commercial art gallery which is absolutely out of place. Washrooms are literally disgusting. Very petty to see the National Museum of Kenya in such a poor condition. Hopefully it will receive a management that will do something about it.

Has exhibits on human evolution, Kenyan wildlife and biology. Kenyan art, and Kenyan history. The building and most exhibits are a bit old. The layout is confusing. Still worth a visit. I spent 90 minutes there 1250 KES entry fee -uses the new online system that no one seems to have figured out yet. You can pay by M-Pesa or credit card. Water bottles not alowed. They will tag and store them for you. Has a luggage storage

The museum grounds are peaceful, and the adjacent Snake Park is a fun, thrilling add-on for animal lovers. It’s an educational and eye-opening experience that perfectly introduces you to the spirit of Kenya!
