Maialino Deli & Cafe

This hidden gem in Edinburgh’s west end serves some of the best food and coffee in this part of town. The lunch menu features unique Tuscan ingredients, freshly baked Italian rolls and some of the best flavour combinations you’re likely to find in a sandwich. Pro Tip: the double pancetta breakfast roll is a game changer. The mushroom, spinach and egg option is very good too! Claudio the owner is a great example of how small business customer service should be done. 5 stars.

This is by far the best sandwich shop I have been to in Edinburgh! Or maybe the world. The guys who run it get weekly imports of cheese and cold cuts from Italy and make all sandwiches fresh to order. The Piadina 2, daily special on Tuesday if one of the best toasted flat bread sandwiches I have ever tasted and I always try to make the pilgrimage every Friday for the Spicy Meatball. It also functions as a deli and you can buy cheese, cold cuts and antipasti to take home. Great for a Friday treat!

They have the best breakfast rolls in the West End, no question about it. The pancetta roll really does have to be tried. Along with the good coffee and friendly staff it really is excellent. The offerings for lunch are also excellent, a wide variety of rolls and toasted sandwiches with a great range of cured meats and continental cheeses. Watch out for the meatball and tuscan sausage specials they do as well.

We've had our lunch from here two days running and it'll be a miracle if I find a better sandwich anywhere else, anytime soon!! I've had the PLT both days as well as their soups and a buttered roll. The soups both days were really good and full of flavour and the buttered roll for dipping was soft, fluffy and well buttered. The PLT however......wow!! The single best sandwich I have ever tasted and that's no exaggeration!! I'd happily eat one for lunch every day!! Do yourself a 'Flavour' and check this place out!!

The sandwiches and other foods here are made so well with the best products. They look good but especially they taste so good. Definitely worth give it a try and I am sure you will come here to upgrade your lunch experience to exciting!

One of the best places for lunch in Edinburgh. Ingredients are top quality and allowed to stand out in uncomplicated sandwiches. Can be busy at lunch time but definitely worth the wait, highly recommended.

One of the best lunch spots in all of Edinburgh. Delicious, freshly sliced delicatessen meats and cheeses in a sandwich. The fillings are gloriously uncomplicated and allow the quality ingredients room to breath, the chorizo and pecorino with aoli is amazing. Soups are always top notch too, freshly made and always changing. The smoked pork and pearl barley broth is superb. Staff are always friendly and personable, although expect to wait a little while as the ingredients are freshly sliced for your sandwich. Never had the time to have a proper meal from here, judging by the care and pride put in to what I have tried I can only assume they are top notch ingredients served simply and with a deftness that allows the food to speak for itself. You pay over the odds for the quality ingredients and freshly prepared food, this isn't always worth it but in Maialino I wouldn't hesitate.

I'll be honest - I'd never heard of this spot before a friend suggested it for a quick catch up over lunch but I have a feeling it will rapidly become one of my favourite spots for lunch. It's clean and freshly decorated - a large high table for sitting in, and a bench with a wall table for a quick snack on your own. The menu is large - a big variety of ciabattas (lovely bread, somehow soft and chewy at the same time compared to the often stale versions lots of cafes use) with all sorts of charcuterie and deli fillings, and a couple of good veggie options too. I would have liked to be able to mix and match, but with a slightly overwhelming range, it wasn't a problem finding something I liked! Prices were reasonable, I think it was about £3.80 for my sandwich.

I had the pulled pork from Maialino today and it was fantastic. Absolutely loved it. Not too juicy and with the right balance of chutney and meat. Also their pea and courgette soup was spot on. Fresh, green and tasty. Always good when things that you're looking forward to go well!

Opened for a little over a month, Maialino is an Italian deli and coffee shop, offering a small but high quality range of charcuterie and cheeses, with lunchtime takeaway and sit-in lunches. It's still developing its offering, and could use a little greater breadth to its range, but their lunchtime soup was very tasty and their meats are deli fresh, so make very pleasing sandwich fillings. Well worth a visit, I'd say. So overall, we said: "Maialino is a charming little spot, and well worthy of a visit. It's in the section of William Street that doesn't get quite as much footfall as the Teuchters/Bert's/Melville stretch, but it seems to be building an audience, so long may that continue to grow."

Ahhhh another Italian deli that has a special place in my heart. This is a hidden gem and more people need to find there way here. With the bus route going back to normal tomorrow maybe more people will find there way here as I have. Ok on with the review. Great little italian cafe/ deli with a good menu of sandwiches and coffee and other goodies. As my hunt for all the italian delis in the city continues this was my first stop and I was jonesing for some salami and parmesan cheese. This place of course had both and they were both quite tasty. I had a black peppercorn type salami that didn't last the evening. Couldn't help myself and it got devoured. The cheese I am savoring but still probably wont last that long. The shop has comfy looking tables to sit at and enjoy your coffee or sandwich. I really liked the sandwich menu with all the variety and next time I stop in I will be getting a panini before you can say " Don Corleone " and of course my espresso shot to sample the coffee. Really liked the gentlemen working there, they recognized my American accent and started a friendly chat with me, made me feel like famiglia. The deli had all sorts of salamis and cheeses and the prices were not to bad at all. I even think I remember them having a few loaves of bread but I cant be sure as I was to focused on the salamis in the case. So otherwise another great little italian deli, I do recommend it if your in the area or even if your not then you need to find your way to the area! I will be going back in regularly I believe as my bus route is right next to the place almost. After I sample the food I will also update this review, which I am sure will be even more positive!

The sandwiches here are incredible. Last time I had a panini with spicy salami and a homemade pepper jam, and it was utterly delicious. Definitely my favourite sandwich shop in Edinburgh.

Superb little deli situated in the West end of William Street. With a wide range of sandwiches to choose from, as well as daily specials (the Wednesday special of pastrami, pecorino and harissa mayo being a particular favourite), this is the place to go when you are feeling hungrier than normal at lunchtime.

Love this place. So glad to have somewhere on our street that's delicious and open on a Saturday. The food is good, and despite its piggy logo, caters to vegetarians such as myself. Great atmosphere, and lovely food--Thanks!
