Wow! I love how genuine the owner is. I would go just for his knowledge and love of sharing food. He's so unafraid to tell guests how to enjoy the food properly. He also very honestly told us that he wouldn't recommend the dishes we ordered just for that day only because when he went to the kitchen to check, one of the main ingredients for those dishes wasn't fresh. He wanted us to be able to come back and enjoy the dishes as they should taste. Because we were so moved by his honesty, we happily ordered other dishes. We definitely will be back!
I've gone here a few times with a group. When you're in a large group, service can be a little slow and inconsistent. Some waters were forgotten for our table for example. However, the food more than makes it up for everything.
My group has ordered such a wide variety of items, that I would say that you cannot go wrong with whatever speaks to you on the menu. Some of the highlights though are any of the fried chicken dishes (they're done Thai style!), curries, and drinks. The Thai tea and Thai coffee are very rich, but good. But they are sweet and are best enjoyed with your meal to help balance out the sweetness.
Portion sizes are pretty large. Most of my group often goes home with leftovers. Cafe de Bangkok is on the pricier side, but I believe it's fair due to food quality, authenticity, portion sizing, and uniqueness. They really do offer dishes that so many other Thai places in America don't.
The decor inside is really eclectic and cute. It can be nice for a date or special meal out. Make sure to check out the shelf holding Thai goods for sale! There's a lot of great and well priced items you can buy. The owner will also happily tell you about the items if you are not sure what they are.
Cafe de Bangkok is a little too far for us unfortunately to be somewhere we regularly go to, but it's definitely on my partner's and I list of places to take friends and family to if we want to wow them.
