Three Notch'd Brewing Company - Richmond

We were driving through on a long trip back home from the Christmas break and we happened upon three notch'd. They have a very comprehensive children's menu, which was key for us. Plenty of options for my toddler. And at $8 for the main meal, apple sauce or fries, choice of drink and ice cream, it was a great deal. Then we got a burger and salad plus a pretzel bite basket with a side of spicy mustard and beer cheese all for $16. Delicious burger and a great deal. I also got the chicken tenders with fries and the batter on the tenders is so unique and tasty. The gold rush drink made with inhouse (or local?) bourbon was delicious. And the atmosphere was perfect. Service was impeccable from the bartender to the man who brought our food. It was an excellent experience and I hope we find our way back to Richmond so we can visit again.

Came in for lunch. Got a flight and an old fashion. Both the food and drinks were delicious! Quick service. Highly recommend!

We went to Three Notch'd for Trivia Night on a Wednesday evening. It was fairly busy, but space is big and so did not feel crowded. The beer and dry cider was excellent. My husband took home a 6-pack to enjoy later in the week. The food was mostly excellent, with a few things that were only pretty good. Get the BBQ panini and the strawberry salad. Just do it. We all enjoyed the trivia, even the teenagers. The wine was terrible. Truly. But I should have known better than to order wine at a brewery. Otherwise, a wonderful spot and we would totally go again.

LOVE this place! Food is great, service is awesome and we absolutely love the beer. Join the Beer Club, it's worth it!

Another great brewery in Richmond, Va. I stopped in at the West Broad location for lunch. It was not crowded and I was greeted by a friendly bar tender as soon as I entered the taproom. The taproom is in a turn of the last century warehouse. The decor is a cool mixture of modern and vintage industrial. Lots of natural sunlight in the large, open taproom area. There are some low tables with chairs, as well as long, counter height community tables. They also have some outdoor seating with a view of the parking lot and West Broad St. Not a great view, and it was a little noisy from car traffic, so I sat inside. Three Notch’d has a surprisingly large selection of non-alcoholic brews for those wishing to avoid a beer buzz. Perfect for the Designated Driver who still wants a beer. I ordered the Grilled BLT with fries and a pint of Ghost of the James. The food and beer were excellent. And they have a great selection of brewery schwag if you want to show your support for Three Notch’d in the form of a T-shirt, sticker, or etc. I highly recommend this brewery/taproom. This was my second visit here, and I’ll be back again.

Noah took great care of us. The food was great we shared the chicken gyro. My Wander Amber Ale's were great! My husband had their vodka sodas. Thanks for a great afternoon/evening Noah. You took GREAT CARE OF US!

Ok this is my new favorite go to VEGAN place. They have sooo many vegan options. See my pic of the menu. They also make their own beer and their beers are very unique and perfect with pizza. They have more than just pizza on the menu and several different options for vegans. My boyfriend is not vegan and there’s plenty for him to choose from as well. It’s just a well-rounded restaurant with great vibes, beautiful artwork, and a great local place to come too, if you are visiting Richmond.

I love the vibe of this place and overall think it's a great hangout spot with an awesome and large indoor space for large parties - but man, when I got the pricetag for everything we ordered, it just really bummed me out. Combine that with fairly slow service despite there being almost nobody in the place that night... it just wasn't my favorite. For bar food, we were shocked at how much we ended up spending - albeit most of it is pretty creative and hefty portions which I appreciated a ton. The pizza fries were the perfect sharable for the table and the hot and honey sandwich was also pretty solid. Don't remember the beer I got, which might also be a sign? IDK - it definitely wasn't bad. So overall a pretty mixed review. I wanted to enjoy it more than I did - and wouldn't be upset if I went back - but just think I needed to strategize my order a little bit better.

Great place and atmosphere! The people are so friendly and it's just a fun place to hangout esp for trivia night on Wednesdays! You order your stuff at the counter making it very easy and they bring your food to you. The food was so good. Lots of great options. I had the cheesesteak and salad-REALLY good, even the salad where you think it's just a salad but really it's not. It was fresh and the croutons tasted homemade and the ranch dressing is to die for. My friend had the spicy chicken grilled sandwich which she really enjoyed and another friend had some sort of BBQ burger and she enjoyed it too. We will definitely be back again for more trivia and drinks!!

This winter on Fridays they have drink specials for Richmond ultimate which is great & the only reason I come here because I'm not a beer drinker. But last night I got the mango wheat & as far as beers go it was refreshing! You definitely get that mango taste, & I'd get it again for the $5 special price. Overall, it's a casual place to hangout, but they would really benefit from some bar games to entice people to stay longer!

Starting this review that I came here with a gift card I had gotten to their beer club so I wanted to come for lunch.. didn't realize that the gift card only applied to their online purchased beer rather than getting a drink/ food in the restaurant, so if you get one make sure you check! They do have a pretty good lunch special where select sandwiches are only $10 and you can add on a drink for $5, which is a pretty good deal. I like their expanded space with lots of tables outside. I got the RVA panini - the ham was good, authentic ham (rather than lunch meat) which was really nice and the sauces on the sandwich had good flavor. I thought the bread was really yummy but there was too much of it that the sandwich needed more inside to balance it out. It was pretty bready. I got the salad on the side which was surprisingly good for a brewery. I wanted to get the Brussels sprouts (if a restaurant serves Brussels I WILL order them) but unfortunately they were sold out the day I went. As a non-beer fan, I enjoy the cider here. It's pretty good. Overall, I enjoyed my lunch. Would I have come here if I didn't think i had a gift card? Probably not. But if you are looking for a brewery to go to with food this is a pretty good option!

I come to Three Notch'd since the board game group I'm a part of uses it as a meeting place, and it works well in that regard. However, I should note that very recently they have moved from the typical "order at the bar and sit where you like" to full table service, which turns it into more of a restaurant and makes it less accessible to group visits. Parking is quite tough in Scott's Addition in general, and with this place's limited parking lot (maybe about 6-8 spaces total), you will either need to come early or hope you get a spot within walking distance. They have quite a bit of seating both inside and outside which gives you flexibility based on what the weather is like that day. The ambiance is roughly what you get at most other Richmond-area breweries: industrial theming with exposed ceilings, and all the echoing sound issues that come with that. The service here has always been very polite and friendly, and they usually have a decent selection of beers (as well as the Uncool series of non-alcoholic drinks for those who opt not to imbibe). I'm a big fan of stouts and porters and they seem to have at least one if not more of those at any particularly time. Prices are... well let's be honest, with inflation and craft breweries, who can even say what a "fair" price is anymore? That said, their pricing is in line with other similar breweries. It's hard to choose between a 3 and 4 score here because of the split between the attributes of the brewery itself and the great beer/service here, so for now I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and go with 4. That said, they REALLY need to terminate this full table-service experiment. Going out is already an expensive endeavor, I would appreciate them keeping the bar-service going to help keep the tipping portion of the cost under control. Overall: 3.5 stars ----- Pros: - Great selection of beers (and non-alcoholic drinks too if you're into that), with some delicious-looking food too. - Lots of inside and outside seating gives you flexibility. - Surprisingly large amount of space for group events in the "big room". - Excellent and polite service. Cons: - Like most other Scott's Addition spots, private lot parking is limited and is mostly luck of the draw. - Prices are elevated, like at most area craft breweries these days. - Open ceilings and industrial design theming amplifies noise, less fun for folks like me who spent most of their youth destroying their ear drums at concerts. - I'm not a fan of this new full table-service experiment, and I don't plan to come here outside of the board game events so long as it continues.

We've driven by this place a lot and finally decided to try it out due to them having a full menu. First off the staff is super nice and friendly. I love that they have non-alcoholic options since I'm currently 9 months pregnant. We started off with the pretzel bites and they were amazing. I also had their meaty pizza and it's was pretty good as well. There was also plenty of space and had your traditional brewery feels. Will be coming again!

My board game club meets here every other Thursday. I'm not a big beer drinker, but ever since they opened their new section (that has food and cocktails) I can always find something to drink. I will add that their beers are really good here though. This Three Notch'd is on the border of Scott's Addition. There is a little parking lot out front, but there is limited parking there. You can also find street parking behind the venue. It's not too far from Bingo Beer Co. It's on Broad and Altamont ave. They have a lot of seating here. It's a great spot for events. There are a bunch of picnic tables out front. There are high rise tables too and lower tables in their new section. While I haven't ordered their food before, a lot of my friends have said it's tasty, but they have small portions. They have a Women and Men bathroom on their older side and then two all gender single stalls on their newer side. If you're looking to do a brewery tour of Richmond, you'll want to add Three Notch'd to your list. It's a spot that's great for tons of things, especially since they've opened their new section. I'd highly recommend checking this brewery out.

They had a good selection of drafts on tap and they had a surprising number of vegan food options. Loved the two personal pizzas we got. I had two IPAs. The 'King of Clouds' was the big winner. I also loved that they had several fun NA beers for my wife to try. Without those NA options we wouldn't have come. The bartenders were affable and helped us with some recommendations. My one complaint was that there was a VERY load and obnoxious group next to us. We were forced to move outside (it was cold) to escape them. I wish the staff had asked them to tone it down. Still, after they left the atmosphere was great.

Sriracha Brussel sprouts were delicious. Cocktails in a can also very good. Liked the atmosphere, laid back. Has a fun dart board.

Only reason I didn't go 5 stars is because the food was just OK. I'll tell you what I love about Three Notched: -awesome staff (shout out to Dominick!) -dog friendly on patio (used to be indoors also until the restaurant opened) -lots of TV's inside to watch sports -vast drink menu including liquor, cocktails, and several non alcoholic beer options (my favorite is the non alcoholic hazy IPA, it's hard to find a NA beer that actually tastes like the real thing) -cool vibe and atmosphere. Beautiful mural on the restaurant side -always great quality beer Overall the food was just OK. The pretzel bites were 8 small bite sized dough pieces. The warm cheese was good. The bites themselves were good. But for $8 it felt overpriced. The pizza was decent. I was bummed they only had 10" personal sizes. The overall taste was fine. I am the type that likes ranch with my pizza and theirs was delicious, it definitely seemed to be made in house and may have been my favorite part of the meal (which probably sounds weird but I take ranch seriously LOL).

I am now a beer drinker! Since moving to Scott's Addition last year and just moving to Richmond a few ago when I wrote my review of Three Notch'd, it was inevitable. Three Notch'd has some of the best beers in town. We especially like coming on First Pour Fridays to try their latest brew for just $3 from 6pm-9pm. Their food is also delicious. Definitely try that out and they have some decent bourbon selections as well. Highly recommend!

Three Notch'd popped up on DoorDash so I decided to give them a try. I ordered the Brussels sprout Caesar and I would have never thought to put those two together but it was SO good!! I also ordered the Crab Fritter things and they were not good. There was virtually no crab meat in them . It was honestly just a hush puppy. They were a great size and you get a good amount but I wouldn't order it again. I'd be interested in trying other things from there in the future!

We have had drinks here before, but I had heard from a friend that they had opened up a full service restaurant. So, 4 of us decided to meet there. They have a small parking lot in front of the place and some parking across broad street. But mostly it is going to be street parking. We went in and were seated. Our waiter was excellent and very attentive. They had some good local craft beer options as well including a red amber ale on draft. It was very good. The menu is not bad. THere is pizza, burgers, salads, sandwiches along with appetizers, etc. We had some pizza and a sandwich. We also tried loaded nachos. I think they are still working out the kinks in the kitchen. The nachos were fair but were loaded up with black beans and limited cheese, etc. I mean a LOT of black beans. The fries were cold when the sandwich came out. However, I had a supreme type pizza and it was very good. So many pizza is their main thing. There is plenty of indoor seating and some outdoor seating. When we left, the taproom side was packed so it is a popular place!!

Large space located right outside Scott's addition. Menu offerings include lots of gluten free/vegan options including a variety of pizzas with a decent list of draft beers. My salad was okay-offering nuts, a raspberry vinaigrette, fruit, etc. The chicken was bland and rubbery- definitely not worth adding. The brussel spouts were also very bland with little flavor profile. Will return for a drink/ more of a hangout spot rather than for actual dinner.

Great beer selection! Got there a little late, right before close, so had a lot to choose from to take with us. They even had some great canned cocktails!

Friendly staff and very fun atmosphere! Got a little as it was open mic night but overall it was a good experience. I had a fried green tomato sandwich! It was delicious, but a little overpriced.

Good beer and super friendly staff. We enjoyed our food too, but found it overpriced for the quantity. We got the jalapeño cornbread which was delicious, but a pretty small rectangle for $6. The spinach artichoke dip was good, but maybe not $13 good. And the hot honey chicken panini was delicious, but again seemed overpriced for $15. Still, we will probably return. Drank the king of clouds IPA and it was very good.

This place was ok. We went right when they opened and there was a line. Lots of people were buying packs of beer in to-go orders. This is such a great idea especially during Christmas time! I wish they had more sours, since I'm not an IPA fan and that's what they seemed to have a lot of. There was a lot of inside seating, though we sat outside since it was getting a little warmer out. They have these cool "beer cans" that they flip when a table is dirty or table to let customers know that it hasn't been sanitized yet. That was a nice touch.

The food was good, but our full order did not arrive at same time, one of our group took-much longer to get to us. Also, another one of our group did not get theirs at all. ( it was an order of french fries for one of the kids, who made do by sharing some from another person) Granted, there were six adults and two children in our party. Still, we were very patient. I would've asked for it to be taken off my bill but I had already checked out, so I felt it was a done deal

Beer is really good but the trivia guy didn't play blue by Eiffel 65 but said that was the answer to the trivia question. I would never trust his answers on anything.

This is a great space. A little industrial but I can see it being quite the beer drinking hangout on a weekend evening. Especially so if there's a good food truck. Stopped by to quench my thirst with their "Netflix and Chillies" which is a jalapeno pale ale. Tasty and good beer but not nearly spicy enough. Plenty of hightop and low top tables, a bunch of their own branded merchandise for sale, they have a foosball table and two pinball tables. I liked the chalkboard wall. Great place to grab some brews. They have a variety of beers, all that we've tried so far are delicious and unique. If you want to try them all, don't worry, they have flights. If you're hungry, they got a good selection of foods to try. I suggest the nachos, delicious. We will definitely be heading back for more!

Good beer with non alcoholic options too! They also have great food (think pizza, elevated bar food). They also have some fun table games you can snag to play at your table. I also HIGHLY recommend the bread pudding. They change the flavors on a regular basis and it's NEVER disappointed!!

I've now visited Three Notch'd three times in the past month or so, and I can report that I definitely enjoy the vibe. It's one of many local beer options in the Scott's Addition neighborhood, but this is probably one of the more social-oriented spots. First Visit: I stopped in with a new friend for the location's birthday party. Since it was a special day for the brewery, there were plenty of food and local goods options in addition to an extra large tap list. They had several gose options that day, which made me super happy. I thoroughly enjoyed my flight and I don't think I rated even one beer poorly. I especially loved the pomegranate, frisbeer, and passion for a cure. All around, it was a super chill day and I enjoyed my visit. Probably would've rated a 5 based off that. Second Visit: I visited again a week or so ago with the Ladies of Lager meetup group. We took up a few tables and settled in for the apparent festivities we didn't know about ahead of time: the mayor and current governor were in the house! They were there promoting local yeast (Activation Capital), so that was really neat. My flight wasn't as great that time. Their saison release wasn't the best, and they had way less sour options. Fortunately they did have the pomegranate so I had that again. I did find it annoying that they were giving out full pours of their saison for free, but you had to pay when it was part of the flight. Had I known when I crafted the flight, obviously I wouldn't have included it. But again, overall I enjoyed myself and it was an ideal venue for a beer group to gather. Third Visit: Probably my least favorite. I stopped in for the Secretly Ya'll story slam event. My friend was performing. It was super busy and thus harder to get a drink. I ordered a saison I thought I hadn't had before, but it turned out they simply renamed the one from last week (the one I didn't like and had to pay for). So I hardly touched my beer. Waste of $6 and tip. Plus the patrons around me were horrible humans. During my friends performance, they kept talking loudly and elbowing me. I ignored the jabs but I did ask them to please be quiet three times to no avail before deserting my seat. More people yelled at them later but they never quieted down. I kinda wish the bartender or someone with the group had asked them to shush, because that definitely put a damper on the night. So I didn't like the beer or some of the crowd. But I'll chalk it up to a bad night and say I'm still a fan. I'll return in the future if they have an event I want to attend or if there's a good sour option on their menu.

Perfect spot for beer lovers and wine drinkers. Ladies join your guys at Three Notch and enjoy some wine right next door at the wine bar while the guys have a beer and hang with the locals at Three Notch. By far some of the best customers and staff, who were great sports about participating in my husband's birthday scavenger hunt. We didn't get to try a lot of the beers, but that gives us more of a reason to come back and visit.

honestly nothing bad to say about this place. Took my wife for the first time and she highly enjoyed herself here. always a different variety of beers on tap, with TVs and awesome tunes on the radio. great prices and even have a small parking lot.

Great place that actually (!!!) welcomes dogs. Inside and out, for real. You can order in from area places and enjoy your evening with your pups. Beers are excellent, too!

August 2018, 3.5 out of 5. We stopped here while on a tour of breweries in the City of Richmond. We had previously visited the brewery in Charlottesville and enjoyed some of the beers. So we figured we would see what was on offer from this location. We enjoyed many of the beers just as we had in Charlottesville but we also tried a few different varieties that weren't available there. While this isn't one of the best breweries in the area it's certainly worth a visit if you find yourself in the vicinity.

Such a great place for a gathering of friends. The lunch specials were a great deal! The bartender was interested in chatting and making sure our selections were just perfect. Delicious all around!

i'll give a five on the beer and one on the customer service... I usually love this place they came by 9 o'clock tonight after work they're always open till 10 and the doors are locked. I called and They said they "closed a little early because it was slow". this is my go to brewery typically, but I'll find someplace else. they said they're open till 10 and they should be open till 10 regardless. I called BS on ThreeNotched.

This is the best brewery in Richmond in my humble opinion. I've been to the Charlottesville location previously but just last week came for my first time. I didn't realize it was right next door to the Wine Station. Parking is few, but don't let that deter you! We came on a Tuesday afternoon and ordered a Passionfruit Gose and a Coconut Pineapple Wit. It's about 6 dollars per glass. DELICIOUS. I mean, knock your socks off amazing. They went perfectly together. We came back yesterday and they had run out of the wit which was a bummer, but at least they still had the Passionfruit Gose. You can also choose to order a few different types of flights depending on how much you want to sample. The brewery is a large space, with community tables and there is also about three outside picnic tables. On Mondays they offer draft specials until 9 p.m., Tuesdays to go specials on growlers until 9 p.m., Wednesday college night specials until 9 p.m., Thursdays they offer trivia night and a new beer release, and on Fridays happy hour from 3-7 p.m. My friend also informed that you can order food from a kiosk inside and they deliver it to you there. Looked like they had fried pickle chips and brats.

My husband and I absolutely LOVE Three Notch'd and it isn't actually for the reason a majority of others love them. I am a little over 2 years sober and my husband is sober by choice/in support of me. Three Notch'd offers a REALLY good NA IPA that we can enjoy. It doesn't seem like much but to be able to enjoy the atmosphere we used toand have a great tasting NA option really is the best. The staff is always very friendly and there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options. Please PLEASE don't ever stop brewing/offering the NA option. Thanks y'all!!!

I have been to Three Notch'd several times because I truly enjoy masking my drinking problem with the facade of being a craft beer hobbyest. It's location is underwhelming, sandwiched in between several other small businesses including a wine bar, an event space and and auto repair shop. The patio area has a lovely view of broad street where you can see vagrants strolling along on the sidewalk and cars ignorantly driving in the bus lane. The interior is a large space equipped with a bar, several tables, a few arcade games, and TVs. The decor inside is appealing and there always seems to be plenty of seating due to the fact there are never many people there. Because there never many people there, Three Notch'd seems to have stepped up their activities, hosting events most week nights in order to interest patrons in visiting. Activities like "Music Bingo" and "Pups and Pints" seem to be successes. While they don't attract many additional people, they entertain me. I unfortunately came on a Monday night where it was dance night and made me want to do anything but dance. Wedged in the corner of the brewery, there was a DJ stationed shining colored lights on the wall, blasting some Latin themed beat for the entirety of my stay. Once every five minutes or so one of the other 4 couples in the brewery would get up and dance for a song, reminding me painfully how little rhythm I have. I longed to be able to get up and join them however when I attempt to follow the beat and the rhythm I look like a willow tree trapped in a hurricane swaying from side to side, liable to fall at any given moment. They did have TVs there so I was able to watch Monday Night Football but as I previously mentioned, the music was so loud I was unable to hear the commentary which meant I could not complain about how much I hated the commentary. As far as food goes, they do have chips and salsa available for purchase. Additionally they have a terminal where you can order hot dogs and various fried foods to be delivered there for a modest price. Finally, they had beer. They had a modest selection of different beers with different types offered. I came specifically to try the Pumpkin Spiced Late flavored beer because it is October and if I do not consume something pumpkin flavored at least every 12 hours I start sweating profusely and shaking. The PSL was good but not great. Overall I really enjoy this brewery because it always has space, the beer is pretty good and it has tvs. I will definitely come back another time.

Now that their kitchen is open and they expanded the space, it's even better than it was before. I ordered a sausage pizza, a cocktail, and a beer. All were great! 5 stars if they had more sours though, which is the only thing missing in my opinion. Love that they added cider and more options.

My husband and I visited Three Notch'd while waiting for our reservation at a nearby restaurant. I wanted to thank them for having nonalcoholic options for those of us that do not drink alcohol but love the taste of beer and want to feel a part of their group that might be drinking alcohol. It is so nice to have something besides Diet Coke or Shirley Temple's as an option. I frequently ask for nonalcoholic options when we visit various breweries and am just told "no, we don't have those" or a restaurant will have only Heineken 0.0 or the like. I counted 5 nonalcoholic options yesterday when we went to Three Notch'd. My favorite is their nonalcoholic hazy IPA but plan on trying their nonalcoholic goses or housemade ginger beer soon. I really appreciate you having so many options. Can't wait to come back.

I loved the inside space and the fact that there are Richmond only beers on tap along with favorites from the Charlottesville location. The outside space and parking are limited so be prepared to walk a ways on busy days. Nice addition to the Richmond craft beer scene.

I'll start with pointing out that this was the third brewery in Scott's Addition we'd been to in one evening, so while my frame of comparison is sharp, my slight inebriation should also be considered. We chose to go here over the wine-on-tap next door because my friend and I had gotten RVA Brewery Passports where you can get a stamp for every brewery you go to, and after 6 stamps you get something for free! We made it to three, but plan on picking it up again next weekend. The overall vibe was very cool- had much more going on than the previous breweries. Games on each of the tables, darts, and cornhole outside were available and added a fun vibe. In a corner, it looked like there had been a DJ or live music, but were packing up by the time we got there. The picnic tables outside are large enough to share with two small parties, making it more of a possibility to meet people. Also, the patio is dog-friendly, with a food truck too! I'll describe my beer experience is someone who doesn't love beer but enjoys sweet beers on occasion. My friend and I shared a 4 6oz taste tray, and I tried all of them, and really enjoyed 3 out of the 4. The pale ale, the "Ghost," and another fruity beer were my favorites. I'll reference back to my disclaimer of my inebriation level as an excuse for not remembering the names. Can't wait to go back and try the rest!

We enjoyed our visit to this brewery! It has your typical industrial type brewery look to the decor. Big wide open room with a decent amount of seating. There is also some outdoor space at the front at the building. We were happy to find that they brew their own Richmond beers (a nice selection of 8 beers) plus a few mainstays from the Charlottesville location. Overall we were happy with the beers we tried. They do not serve food but there is a hotdog place that has a kiosk in the brewery to order and they deliver to the brewery. We did not try it but saw several people use the service.

Not enough good words for this brewery. 3 Notch'd is by far my most favorite beer in Richmond. Their beer is wonderful. Flagship & Seasonal. It is all delicious. Keep up the good work.
