"Grilled cheese taken to the next level When I was a kid eating my favorite comfort food, Campbell’s tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich, I could never have imagined anything better. But the future is here, and there is MeltKraft, a sandwich shop that has taken the grilled cheese sandwich and elevated it to a craft. The cheese is made on the premises at the Reading Terminal Market by Valley Shepherd Creamery, and the sandwich combinations are wonderfully inventive. There is no better place for a delicious and inexpensive meal in all of Center City. Foodies, don’t look the other way because it says “grilled cheese”; this is a must-try."

We stopped at the market while traveling for work and this cheese shop caught our eye. So many of their sandwiches looked good that it was really hard to pick. I decided to go with the Melter Skelter. They only have one little grill, so it took quite a while for the sandwich to be ready. They warned you up front about that though. In the end, it was well worth the wait. The sandwich was delicious. It was loaded with a ton of delicious cheese and the other flavors worked well with it. It also comes with chips. I'd definitely recommend stopping here if you're in the market.

Delicious grilled cheese! Got the gluten free (celiac Not trendy..) classic with bacon & tomato soup they were great! Staff was very friendly and prices were reasonable given the cheeses are in house made and farm fresh!

They are the nicest people with the best cheese! Go get a grilled cheese or a fancy grilled cheese and put a smile on your face.

I was really craving a grilled cheese and tomato soup today, so I headed over to Meltkraft. After forking over $14 after tip, I received my order (the Classic with an 8 oz tomato soup). The soup was lukewarm at best and the oil had separated from the tomato. It was really gross. The grilled cheese lacked flavor, which I wasn't even aware could happen to a grilled cheese. Seemed like it needed some salt. The cheese was beautifully melted, and that's about all the good I can say about that. They do have a great olive bar and their cheese selection is vast, but I won't be buying grilled cheese there again.

Had one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I’ve ever had here. I was showing a friends from out of town around and it was cold and rainy out all day. This hit the spot like you wouldn’t believe. I got the brisket grilled cheese and he got the cranberry and grilled onions. The cranberry one was actually my favorite with the mix of sweet and salty.

Superb taste. Beef Brisket with Mac and Cheese Grilled Cheese. BBQ Chips and a drink. Kinda pricey but worth it

The sandwiches are pre-made but grilled when you order them, something can be added. Regardless the Ave D is one of the best grilled-cheeses I've ever had. Try the Toad in a Hole for breakfast! The cashier was so sweet too.

Came here for lunch after just getting into Philly. Can't go wrong with grilled cheese and this place did not disappoint (other than not being able to substitute different meats in the sandwiches - they make them ahead of time). I got the Melter Skelter which has raclette cheese, pickled green tomatoes, jalapeno, BBQ potato chips and watercress. Every sandwich is served with potato chips. All of it was delicious and wasn't super heavy either. The only annoying thing with this place is that they don't put their specials up on the board or on the paper menus. They're posted on the glass along the side of the shop so if you go up to order, you won't necessarily notice it. Other than that, it's a great option in the market and I'd definitely come back to try more next time I'm in town!
